Patterns and drivers of avian taxonomic and phylogenetic beta diversity in China vary across geographical backgrounds and dispersal abilities

Geographical background and dispersal ability may strongly influence assemblage dissimilarity;however,these aspects have generally been overlooked in previous large-scale beta diversity ***,we examined whether the patterns and drivers of taxonomic beta diversity(TBD)and phylogenetic beta diversity(PBD)of breeding birds in China vary across(1)regions on both sides of the Hu Line,which demarcates China’s topographical,climatic,economic,and social patterns,and(2)species with different dispersal *** and PBD were calculated and partitioned into turnover and nestedness components using a moving window *** representing climate,habitat heterogeneity,and habitat quality were employed to evaluate the effects of environmental *** distance was considered to assess the impact of dispersal *** partitioning analysis was applied to assess the relative roles of these *** general,the values of TBD and PBD were high in mountainous areas and were largely determined by environmental ***,different dominant environmental filters on either side of the Hu Line led to divergent beta diversity ***,climate-driven species turnover and habitat heterogeneity-related species nestedness dominated the regions east and west of the line,***,bird species with stronger dispersal ability were more susceptible to environmental filtering,resulting in more homogeneous *** results indicated that regions with distinctive geographical backgrounds may present different ecological factors that lead to divergent assemblage dissimilarity patterns,and dispersal ability determines the response of assemblages to these ecological *** a single universal explanation for the observed pattern without considering these aspects may lead to simplistic or incomplete ***,a comprehensive understanding of large-scale beta diversity patterns and effective pla

Taxonomy on crane flies in family Tipulidae and Limoniidae(Diptera: Tipuloidea) from Yaoluoping National Nature Reserve, anhui, China

The paper reports 13 species from Yaoluoping National Nature Reserve, anhui, China, including a new species and a new subspecies, Tipula（Emodotipula） alexanderi Men, sp. nov. and Nephrotoma impigra anqingensis Men, subsp. nov. The female of Libnotes（Libnotes） pseudonohirai Men, 2015 is described and illustrated for the first time. The males of Holorusia henana Yang, 1999 and Tipula（Vestiplex） jiangi Yang ＆ Yang, 1991 are redescribed and illustrated with new morphological characters. A key to all species is provided.

高山树线被视为记录气候变化对树木和森林影响的生态监测器。迄今为止,大多数树线研究都集中在气候变化如何驱动树线动态的变化。然而,关于生物相互作用如何调节树线变化,特别是在树木更新这一树线动态的瓶颈方面,人们知之甚少。本研究假设种间和种内促进作用决定了高山树线树苗的定居和存活。为了验证这一假设,我们在青藏高原东南部的色季拉山高山树线交错区(海拔4300–4500 m)的3个生长生境(林冠内、林冠外和草地)中共计移植了630株不同年龄(4–6年、7–9年和10–15年)的急尖长苞冷杉(Abies georgei ***)幼苗,连续3年监测了移植后幼苗的微气候、高度生长、死亡率和叶片功能性状。结果发现,叶片功能性状的变化是由微气候驱动的。移植后,叶片可溶性糖和淀粉浓度以及C:P比增加,而叶面积减小。幼苗的资源利用逐渐转向更保守的策略,其背后机制主要受到了生理性状(非结构性碳水化合物和植物养分)的介导。同时,由结构方程模型发现太阳辐射、温度和水分条件在植物相互作用下,通过介导叶片形态性状的变化最终影响了幼苗的死亡率和年生长。上述研究结果表明,植物间的互利作用通过改变太阳辐射和叶片功能性状,最终在决定幼苗生长和存活上起到至关重要的作用,同时也为理解全球气候变化背景下高山树线动态变化的驱动机制提供了新的见解。

The paper reports eight species from Mountain Huang, anhui, China, including two new species, Nephrotoma huangshanensis sp. nov. and Tipula （Pterelachisus） pseudobiaciculifera sp. nov. The males of four species, Pselliophora xanthopimplina Enderlein, 1921, Tanyptera hubeiensis Yang ＆ Yang, 1988, Tipula coxitalis Alexander, 1935 and Tipulodina xyris （Alexander, 1949） are redescribed and illustrated, with new morphological characters. All specimens are deposited in the animal specimen room, School of Life Sciences, Anqing Normal University, anhui province, China.

Hydroacoustic estimates of fish biomass and spatial distributions in shallow lakes

We conducted acoustical surveys with a horizontal beam transducer to detect fish and with a vertical beam transducer to detect depth and macrophytes in two typical shallow lakes along the middle and lower reaches of the Changjiang(Yangtze) River in November 2013. Both lakes are subject to active fish management with annual stocking and removal of large fish. The purpose of the study was to compare hydroacoustic horizontal beam estimates with fish landings. The preliminary results show that the fish distribution patterns dif fered in the two lakes and were af fected by water depth and macrophyte coverage. The hydroacoustically estimated fish biomass matched the commercial catch very well in Niushan Lake, but it was two times higher in Kuilei Lake. However, acoustic estimates included all fish, whereas the catch included only fish >45 cm(smaller ones were released). We were unable to determine the proper regression between acoustic target strength and fish length for the dominant fish species in the two lakes.

In present paper, the morphological descriptions of reproductive systems for Libnotes（Libnotes） pseudonohirai Men, 2015 in both sexes are provided, which represents the first description of the internal reproductive system in this genus. The female internal reproductive system of Libnotes（Libnotes） pseudonohirai is compared with that of the two presently examined species, Hexatoma（Eriocera） cleopatroides Men, 2015 and Holorusia sp., as well as some species previously documented. The morphological differences of internal reproductive organs for these species are listed. Additionally, the characteristic modes of internal reproductive systems for Tipulidae and Limoniidae are compared and summarized.

Record of a juvenile Omura's whale live stranded in Hainan Island:Evidence of a potential breeding ground in the South China Sea?

On January 12,2011,a very young juvenile Bryde's-like baleen whale was found stranded alive on the east coast of Hainan Island,in the South China ***,it died the next *** baleen whale showed some unique external morphology and skull features of the Omura's whale(Balaenoptera omurai).Subsequently,it was genetically identified as an Omura's whale using two different mitochondrial DNA *** study documents the first confirmed live stranding of a juvenile Omura's whale on Hainan Island,*** findings expand the known distribution range of this species in Chinese waters and may indicate that waters around Hainan Island in the South China Sea could be a potential breeding ground for the Omura's whale.

Runoff Characteristics of Different Stands in Dongjiang Lake Reservoir Area

Different forest stands in the Dongjiang Lake Reservoir area of Zixing were selected as the research objects to study the characteristics of runoff generation in different forest *** results showed that there was no significant difference in annual runoff among M3,M1,and M5,and no significant difference between each forest stand and the *** order was M3(22.75 mm)>M1(21.77 mm)>M5(20.14 mm).Forest vegetation generates less runoff through vegetation restoration compared to the control,indicating that forest vegetation reconstruction and restoration are beneficial for soil and water conservation.
