Prospects and limitations of soil amendment and irrigation techniques for the water-saving public urban greenery and ephemeral weed management in the sandy soils of the United Arab Emirates

Public urban greenery greatly contributes to the residential and tourist value of cities in the Gulf Region,but due to the hyper-arid climatic conditions,the cost of irrigation and plant maintenance is very *** strategies to reduce the monetary and ecological costs involve the cultivation of native xerophytic plantations,and/or the use of soil improvers to increase water-and nutrient-holding capacity of the sandy *** soil improvers based on mineral,organic,or synthetic materials have entered the United Arab Emirates(UAE)market in recent years,but there is considerable uncertainty about how they should best be used in combination with ornamental plant stands involving xerophytic native *** present study investigated the effect of soil amendment and deep pipe irrigation on perennial ornamental plant stands involving native plants(Tephrosia appolinea(Gel.)Link in combination with Aerva javanica(Burm.f.)*** Schult.)and native-exotic plants(*** in combination with Ruelia simplex ***)either or not topsoil and subsoil amendment with bentonite and hydrophobic sand under the irrigation water supply of less than 50%of reference evapotranspiration(ET0).After one year of cultivation,*** and ***(native ***)produced high biomass and exhibited high water use efficiency(WUE)as compared with *** and ***(native ***)combination given that no significant differences were found under the soil amendment *** stands thrived under irrigation water supply far below what is usually supplied to exotic ornamental stands in public parks of the Al Ain city,the ***,subsoil amendment in combination with deep pipe irrigation reduced the occurrence of weeds and increased the overall plant rooting *** results suggest that subsoil amendment and irrigation up to 60-80 cm depth can potentially control ephemeral weed infestation,which is a great challenge in various plant production systems of the

Turnip mosaic virus(TuMV)constitutes one of the primary diseases affecting Brassica rapa,severely impacting its production and resulting in crop failures in various regions *** research has demonstrated the significance of plant translation initiation factors,specifically the eIF4E and eIF4G family genes,as essential recessive disease resistance *** our study,we conducted evolutionary and gene expression studies,leading us to identify e IF(iso)4E.c as a potential TuMV-resistant *** cRISPR/cas9 technology,we obtained mutant *** plants with edited eIF(iso)4E.c *** confirmed eIF(iso)4E.c confers resistance against TuMV through phenotypic observations and virus content ***,we employed ribosome profiling assays on eif(iso)4e.c mutant seedlings to unravel the translation landscape in response to ***,we observed a moderate correlation between the fold changes in gene expression at the transcriptional and translational levels(R^(2)=0.729).comparative analysis of ribosome profiling and RNA-seq data revealed that plant-pathogen interaction,and MAPK signaling pathway-plant pathways were involved in eIF(iso)4E.c-mediated TuMV *** analysis revealed that sequence features,coding sequence length,and normalized minimal free energy,influenced the translation efficiency of *** study highlights that the loss of e IF(iso)4E.c can result in a highly intricate translation mechanism,acting synergistically with transcription to confer resistance against TuMV.

Egyptian species of the leafhopper genus Exitianus Ball,1929,***(St?l,1855),***(Distant,1908),and *** Ross,1968 are ***,morphological descriptions,and a key for their identification are *** this study,we used molecular techniques to confirm morphological identification and detect phylogeny among the three Exitianus *** partial nucleotide sequences of the amplified products obtained were determined by Macrogen *** nucleotide sequences of 28S rDNA and cOX genes of the EGY-ARc-9,EGY-ARc-4,and EGY-ARc-5 were determined by Macrogen Korea,blasted into BLAST at the National center for Biotechnology Information website(NcBI)and compared with those deposited in the GenBank DNA *** results represented the homology percentage between the partial sequences of the 28S rRNA and cOX genes from each species and related species obtained from GenBank DNA *** morphological identifications of the three Exitianus species were confirmed by molecular characterization and sequencing of 28S rDNA and cOX genes and identified as ***,***,and ***,their sequences of 28srDNA and cOX genes were deposited in GenBank with an accession number(Lc670610,Lc670607,and OQ196105)for 28srDNA gene and(Lc775357,Lc775358,and Lc775359)for the cOX gene.

African swine fever virus(ASFV)poses a significant threat to the global swine ***,there are no effective vaccines or treatments available to combat ASFV infection in *** primary means of controlling the spread of the disease is through rapid detection and subsequent elimination of infected ***,a lower virulent ASFV isolate with a deleted EP402R gene(cD2v-deleted)has been reported in china,which further complicates the control of ASFV infection in pig ***,an EP402R-deleted ASFV variant has been developed as a potential live attenuated vaccine candidate ***,it is crucial to develop detection methods that can distinguish wild-type and EP402R-deleted ASFV *** this study,two recombinant ASFV-p72 and-cD2v proteins were expressed using a prokaryotic system and used to immunize Bactrian ***,eight nanobodies against ASFV-p72 and ten nanobodies against ASFV-cD2v were *** the production of these nanobodies with horse radish peroxidase(HRP)fusion proteins,the ASFV-p72-Nb2-HRP and ASFV-cD2v-Nb22-HRP fusions were selected for the development of two competitive ELISAs(cELISAs)to detect anti-ASFV *** two cELISAs exhibited high sensitivity,good specificity,repeatability,and *** coincidence rate between the two cELISAs and commercial ELISA kits was 98.6%and 97.6%,***,the two cELISA for detecting antibodies against ASFV demonstrated ease of operation,a low cost,and a simple production *** two cELISAs could determine whether pigs were infected with wild-type or cD2v-deleted ASFV,and could play an important role in monitoring ASFV infections in pig farms.

Determinants of malaria from environmental and poverty aspects in Indonesia:A spatiotemporal perspective,2016-2020

Objective:To investigate the environmental and social aspects of poverty contributing to malaria incidence in Indonesia from 2016 to ***:Random forest regression was used to analyse the independent variables contributing to malaria *** conditions were extracted from remotely sensed data,including vegetation,land temperature,soil moisture,precipitation,and *** contrast,the social aspects of poverty were obtained from government statistical ***:From 2016 to 2020,the contribution of each environmental and social aspect of poverty to malaria incidence fluctuated ***,the top three essential variables were people aged 15 years and above,experiencing poverty(variable importance/VI=32.0%),people experiencing poverty who work in the agricultural sector(VI=14.4%),and precipitation(VI=9.8%).It was followed by people experiencing poverty who are unemployed(VI=9.2%),land temperature(VI=5.2%),people experiencing poverty who have low education(VI=8.0%),soil moisture(VI=7.4%),elevation(VI=6.0%),and vegetation(VI=3.8%).conclusions:Poverty and variables related to climate have become the crucial determinants of malaria in *** government must strengthen malaria surveillance through climate change mitigation and adaptation programs and accelerate poverty alleviation programs to support malaria elimination.

A Dietary Source of High Level of Fluoroquinolone Tolerance in mcr-carrying Gram-Negative Bacteria

The emergence of antibiotic tolerance,characterized by the prolonged survival of bacteria following antibiotic exposure,in natural bacterial populations,especially in pathogens carrying antibiotic resistance genes,has been an increasing threat to public ***,the major causes contributing to the formation of antibiotic tolerance and underlying molecular mechanisms are yet poorly ***,we show that potassium sorbate(PS),a widely used food additive,triggers a high level of fluoroquinolone tolerance in bacteria carrying mobile colistin resistance gene *** studies demonstrate that PS treatment results in the accumulation of intracellular fumarate,which activates bacterial two-component system and decreases the expression level of outer membrane protein OmpF,thereby reducing the uptake of *** addition,the supplementation of PS inhibits aerobic respiration,reduces reactive oxygen species production and alleviates DNA damage caused by bactericidal ***,we demonstrate that succinate,an intermediate product of the tricarboxylic acid cycle,overcomes PS-mediated ciprofloxacin *** multiple animal models,ciprofloxacin treatment displays failure outcomes in PS preadministrated animals,including comparable survival and bacterial loads with the vehicle *** together,our works offer novel mechanistic insights into the development of antibiotic tolerance and uncover potential risks associated with PS use.
