Design of Resilient Sensor Networks Balancing Resilience and Efficiency

In recent years,the notion of resilience has been developed and applied in many technical areas,becoming exceptionally pertinent to disaster risk science.During a disaster situation,accurate sensing information is the key to efficient recovery efforts.In general,resilience aims to minimize the impact of disruptions to systems through the fast recovery of critical functionality,but resilient design may require redundancy and could increase costs.In this article,we describe a method based on binary linear programming for sensor network design balancing efficiency with resilience.The application of the developed framework is demonstrated for the case of interior building surveillance utilizing infrared sensors in both twoand three-dimensional spaces.The method provides optimal sensor placement,taking into account critical functionality and a desired level of resilience and considering sensor type and availability.The problem formulation,resilience requirements,and application of the optimization algorithm are described in detail.Analysis of sensor locations with and without resilience requirements shows that resilient configuration requires redundancy in number of sensors and their intelligent placement.Both tasks are successfully solved by the described method,which can be applied to strengthen the resilience of sensor networks by design.The proposed methodology is suitable for large-scale optimization problems with many sensors and extensive coverage areas.

Large low-field reversible magnetocaloric effect in K_(3)Gd(PO_(4))_(2) at sub-Kelvin temperature

We synthesized a potassium gadolinium phosphate K3Gd(PO_(4))_(2)with monoclinic structure(P2_(1/m))by the high-temperature solid-state reaction method.Its lattice constants obtained by Rietveld refinements of XRD curve are a=0.7411 nm,b=0.5624 nm,and c=0.9433 nm.Magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of K_(3)Gd(PO_(4))_(2)were investigated in detail.The magnetic phase transition temperature of K3Gd(PO_(4))2 was determined by ultra-low temperature testing to be 0.58 K.K_(3)Gd(PO_(4))2 exhibits large magnetic entropy changes(-ΔSM).The maximum-ΔSM are 20.2 and 29.4 J/(kg·K)in the magnetic field variation(ΔH)of 1 and 2 T,respectively,which are larger than that of the commercial Gd_(3)Ga_(5)O_(12)(GGG).The maximum adiabatic temperature change(ΔT_(ad))reaches 5.91 K under a magnetic field change(ΔH)of 1 T.K_(3)Gd(PO_(4))_(2)is a potential magnetic refrigeration material for obtaining sub-Kelvin temperatures.

A novel control scheme is presented to eliminate the negative effects of communication disturbances,which introduces active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)in the control strategy design to achieve the objectives of the restoration of the bus voltage and the sharing of the power even in the presence of disturbances and delays in communication.Simultaneously,its dynamic disturbance decoupling feature is used to realise the decoupling between power and voltage,so that the proposed controller only exchanges power information with its neighbours,reducing the communication burden and simplifying control structure.The control performance of the strategy is verified by employing steady-state analysis.The impact of controller parameters is studied by establishing a small signal model.Finally,both simulation cases and experimental tests prove the feasibility of this scheme.

Microstructural evolution and deformation behavior of friction stir welded twin-induced plasticity steel

The weldability of twin-induced plasticity(TWIP)steel with ultra-high strength via friction stir welding(FSW)technique was investigated,and microstructural evolution and deformation behavior of whole and micro-zones of FSW TWIP joint were studied for the first time.The results showed that the content of recrystallized grains in the stir zone(SZ)increased from 10.5%of basal material(BM)to 14.2%,and that of heat affected zone(HAZ)increased to 78.6%.The percentage of annealing twins decreased from 26.8%in BM to 11%in SZ,while increased to 35%in HAZ.Compared with the BM,the ultimate tensile strength and yield strength of the FSW joint increased to 1036 and 550 MPa,respectively,reaching 106.7%and 110.9%of BM,respectively.The elongation of the entire joint was 50.5%,which was lower than that of BM due to the nonuniform deformation during the tensile test.The engineering strain was mainly concentrated in BM and SZ and transferred to each other during the tensile test,while the engineering strain in HAZ was always the lowest.Finally,the tensile fracture occurred in the SZ.The order of ultimate tensile strength of micro-zones in the FSW joint was as follows:HAZ>BM≈SZ.The order of yield strength was as follows:HAZ>BM>SZ.

Chemotactic nanomotor for multimodal combined therapy of glioblastoma

Glioblastoma(GBM) is the most aggressive malignant brain tumor. Due to the infiltration and heterogeneity of GBM, the obstruction of the blood-brain barrier(BBB) and the unique immunosuppressive mechanism, it is hard to achieve significant effects of GBM treatment. Here, a kind of chemotactic nanomotor that loaded with glucose oxidase(GOx) and carboxylated cisplatin(Pt(IV)) prodrug on the L-arginine-derived polymer is proposed. The nanomotors are driven by catalysis of glucose decomposition and the positive chemotaxis towards the GBM microenvironment where inducible nitric oxide synthase and reactive oxygen species are highly expressed. This facilitates the BBB crossing and GBM targeting of the nanomotors. In addition, the released nitric oxide(NO) during propulsion as well as the loaded GOx and Pt(IV) can exert combined NO/starvation/chemotherapy. Meanwhile, it is able to induce and enhance the immune response through multiple pathways, thus better coping with the complexities of GBM treatment.

Effects of water molecules on luminescence in europium and terbium coordination polymers with p-fluorobenzoic acid as ligand

Our previous experimental observations show that the crystal structure of lanthanide luminescent complexes synthesized in aqueous solution usually contains a large number of coordination water molecules or free water molecules.In order to probe the influence of water molecules on luminescent processes of lanthanide complexes,the photoluminescence properties of Ln-FBA（Ln=Eu and Tb,FBA=p-fluorobenzoic acid） coordination polymers at different ambient temperatures,in different solvents and aqueous DMSO solutions with different volume concentrations were systematically investigated.The experiment results show that the presence of water molecules can promote the energy transfer from FBA ligand to Ln3+,at the same time,can cause luminescent non-radiation quenching of lanthanide ions.In addition,the variation of emission intensity ratio of 615 nm/591 nm peaks of Eu3+with increasing the volume concentration of H2O can be potentially used for the quantitatively detection of water traces in organic solve nts.In order to suppress the non-radiation quenching caused by the water molecules,Ln-FBA（Ln=Eu and Tb） coordination polymers were embedded into the PVP matrix to prepare Ln-FBA@PVP hybrid materials.The photoluminescence investigation indicates that PVP can not only block the quenching effect of water molecules on luminescence,but also effectively sensitize Eu3+and Tb3+luminescence.These experimental conclusions are useful for probing the influence of water molecules on luminescent processes of lanthanide complexes,quantitatively detecting water traces in organic solvents and enhancing the photoluminescence intensity in lanthanide complexes.

Wireless semantic communication based on semantic matching multiple access and intent bias multiplexing

This paper proposes a multi-access and multi-user semantic communication scheme based on semantic matching and intent deviation to address the increasing demand for wireless users and data.The scheme enables flexible management of long frames,allowing each unit of bandwidth to support a higher number of users.By leveraging semantic classification,different users can independently access the network through the transmission of long concatenated sequences without modifying the existing wireless communication architecture.To overcome the potential disadvantage of incomplete semantic database matching leading to semantic intent misunderstanding,the scheme proposes using intent deviation as an advantage.This allows different receivers to interpret the same semantic information differently,enabling multiplexing where one piece of information can serve multiple users with distinct purposes.Simulation results show that at a bit error rate(BER)of 0.1,it is possible to reduce the transmission by approximately 20 semantic basic units.

Influence of syngas components and ash particles on the radiative heat transfer in a radiant syngas cooler

Radiant syngas cooler(RSC)is widely used as a waste heat recovery equipment in industrial gasification.In this work,an RSC with radiation screens is established and the impact of gaseous radiative property models,gas components,and ash particles on heat transfer is investigated by the numerical simulation method.Considering the syngas components and the pressure environment of the RSC,a modified weighted-sum-of-gray-gases model was developed.The modified model shows high accuracy in validation.In computational fluid dynamics simulation,the calculated steam production is only 0.63%in error with the industrial data.Compared with Smith's model,the temperature decay along the axial direction calculated by the modified model is faster.Syngas components are of great significance to heat recovery capacity,especially when the absorbing gas fraction is less than 10%.After considering the influence of particles,the outlet temperature and the proportion of radiative heat transfer are less affected,but the difference in steam output reaches 2.7 t·h^(-1).The particle deposition on the wall greatly reduces the heat recovery performance of an RSC.

Coxsackievirus B3(CVB3)is the pathogen causing hand,foot and mouth disease(HFMD),which manifests across a spectrum of clinical severity from mild to severe.However,CVB3-infected mouse models mainly demonstrate viral myocarditis and pancreatitis,failing to replicate human HFMD symptoms.Although several enteroviruses have been evaluated in Syrian hamsters and rhesus monkeys,there is no comprehensive data on CVB3.In this study,we have first tested the susceptibility of Syrian hamsters to CVB3 infection via different routes.The results showed that Syrian hamsters were successfully infected with CVB3 by intraperitoneal injection or nasal drip,leading to nasopharyngeal colonization,acute severe pathological injury,and typical HFMD symptoms.Notably,the nasal drip group exhibited a longer viral excretion cycle and more severe pathological damage.In the subsequent study,rhesus monkeys infected with CVB3 through nasal drips also presented signs of HFMD symptoms,viral excretion,serum antibody conversion,viral nucleic acids and antigens,and the specific organ damages,particularly in the heart.Surprisingly,there were no significant differences in myocardial enzyme levels,and the clinical symptoms resembled those often associated with common,mild infections.In summary,the study successfully developed severe Syrian hamsters and mild rhesus monkey models for CVB3-induced HFMD.These models could serve as a basis for understanding the disease pathogenesis,conducting pre-trial prevention and evaluation,and implementing post-exposure intervention.

Di-PEGylated insulin:A long-acting insulin conjugate with superior safety in reducing hypoglycemic events

Although the discovery of insulin 100 years ago revolutionized the treatment of diabetes,its therapeutic potential is compromised by its short half-life and narrow therapeutic index.Current long-acting insulin analogs,such as insulin-polymer conjugates,are mainly used to improve pharmacokinetics by reducing renal clearance.However,these conjugates are synthesized without sacrificing the bioactivity of insulin,thus retaining the narrow therapeutic index of native insulin,and exceeding the efficacious dose still leads to hypoglycemia.Here,we report a kind of di-PEGylated insulin that can simultaneously reduce renal clearance and receptor-mediated clearance.By impairing the binding affinity to the receptor and the activation of the receptor,di-PEGylated insulin not only further prolongs the half-life of insulin compared to classical mono-PEGylated insulin but most importantly,increases its maximum tolerated dose 10-fold.The target of long-term glycemic management in vivo has been achieved through improved pharmacokinetics and a high dose.This work represents an essential step towards long-acting insulin medication with superior safety in reducing hypoglycemic events.
