This paper presents the fresh and hardened properties of high-strength concrete comprising byproduct fine crushed aggregates(FCAs)sourced from the crushing of three different types of rocks,namely granophyre,basalt,and *** lowest void contents of the combined fine aggregates were observed when 40%to 60%of natural sand is replaced by the *** the replacement of 40%FCAs,the slump and bleeding of concrete with a water-to-cement ratio of 0.45 decreased by approximately 15%and 50%,respectively,owing to the relatively high fines content of the *** 28 d compressive strength of concrete was 50 MPa when 40%FCAs were *** slight decrease in tensile strength from the FCAs is attributed to the flakiness of the *** correlations between the splitting tensile and compressive strengths of normal concrete provided in the AS 3600 and ACI 318 design standards are applicable for concrete using the FCAs as partial replacement of *** maximum 56 d drying shrinkage is 520 microstrains,which is significantly less than the recommended limit of 1000 microstrains by AS 3600 for ***,the use of these byproduct FCAs can be considered as a sustainable alternative option for the production of high-strength green concrete.

Pine processionary moth is one of the most important forest pests in the Mediterranean Basin. There is need to explore its distribution behaviour to undertake effective control and determine the edge effect of its horizontal distribution in the stand. Five trial sites damaged by the insect were selected and traps installed in all trees in the sites. The number of nests and larvae was counted and diameter increment cores were taken. The distance to the edge of the stand revealed that there was no statistical difference in the number of nests and larvae up to 25 m while there was a statistically significant difference(0.5%)at [25 m. There was a 2-fold difference in the density of nests between 0 and 25 m and [25 meters, and a 3.8-fold difference in the number of larvae. The effect of pine processionary moth on tree diameter was not significant between trees at the edge of the stand and those in the stand.

This paper presents an attempt to initiate community empowerment within the participatory neighbourhood upgrading context of the Sengul Hammam Neighbourhood(istiklal).We adopted the Participatory Action Research methodology,which aims to generate knowledge meaningful for the community towards upgrading and revitalizing the ***,a series of workshops,focus groups,and community activities were implemented in parallel processes with different neighbourhood *** order to change the situation in the neighbourhood,the inquiry began by mobilizing neighbourhood stakeholders and planning the future with primary school ***,this gained the active support of parents,women,the municipality,local leaders,and civil associations,and led them to take collective action over garbage collection,cleaning up the neighbourhood and building a *** mayor at the time of the research showed interest in istiklal but did not or could not give any financial or political support to upgrade the physical setting as a *** lack of support from the municipality in that regard and the neighbourhood being left to its own destiny caused a gradual dilapidation and loss of historic and cultural values.

This paper addresses the attuned use of multi- converter flexible alternative current transmission systems （M-FACTS） devices and demand response （DR） to perform congestion management （CM） in the deregulated environment. The strong control capability of the M- FACTS offers a great potential in solving many of the problems facing electric utilities. Besides, DR is a novel procedure that can be an effective tool for reduction of congestion. A market clearing procedure is conducted based on maximizing social welfare （SW） and congestion as network constraint is paid by using concurrently the DR and M-FACTS. A multi-objective problem （MOP） based on the sum of the payments received by the generators for changing their output, the total payment received by DR participants to reduce their load and M-FACTS cost is systematized. For the solution of this problem a nonlinear time-varying evolution （NTVE） based multi-objective particle swarm optimization （MOPSO） style is formed. Fuzzy decision-making （FDM） and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution （TOPSIS） approaches are employed for finding the best compromise solution from the set of Pareto-solutions obtained through multi-objective particle swarm optimization-nonlinear time-varying evolution （MOPSO-NTVE）. In a real power system, Azarbaijan regional power system of Iran, comparative analysis of the results obtained from the application of the DR ＆ unified power flow controller （UPFC） and the DR ＆ M-FACTS are presented.

Cities today face significant difficulties and even risks due to the negative effects of climate change, uncontrolled urbanization, and rapid population growth. Many urban scenarios are being developed to mitigate potential risks and threats. One branch of these scenarios is built upon the concept of sustainability, for which the notion of “resilience” is of utmost importance. It is this notion of resilience that was examined in this study, based on the case of socio-ecological system features of Edremit, Van, Turkey. These features were evaluated in terms of changes that will potentially take place, and the analysis for this was performed using the Green Infrastructure Spatial Planning(GISP) method. In this approach, green infrastructure benefit criteria are mapped in the Geographic Information System(GIS) environment and various conclusions are drawn from the evaluation of these maps. The results of the study show that the green infrastructure systems of Edremit play an important role in providing a certain degree of resilience. It was, therefore, revealed as part of this study that measuring and evaluating the resilience properties of different cities is important. Also, urban policies and spatial strategies should be defined considering local characteristics and values as there is no one-size-fits-all solution in this regard.

Assessing Flood Vulnerability from Rapid Urban Growth:A Case of Central Java — Indonesia

Urban growth, in many Asian cities, may lead to increased exposure to flood and growing sensitivity mainly because of the presence of informal settlements. On the other hand, urban areas may offer better access to public facilities, improving adaptive capacity and enhancing the local government's capabilities. This study aims to investigate to what extent urban growth exacerbates flood vulnerability in Central Java. Concurrently, floods are the most frequent disaster in the *** approach used in the vulnerability assessment involves socioeconomic conditions(population density, the number of impoverished families, public facilities) associated with three main aspects(exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity), resulting in the Exposure and Sensitivity Index and the Adaptive Capacity Index. Scoring and weighting analysis using secondary data in a sub-district unit from the Central Bureau of Statistics are applied. The result shows that urban growth contributes to the escalation of hazards and vulnerability. On the other hand, a high population also increases the number of public facilities and affects adaptive capacity in certain areas. Indeed, strategic urban development policies are critical to manage the three elements that form the flood vulnerability.

Driftwood is one of the important physical components in mountainous rivers which causes severe hazards due to the clogging of bridges,culverts,and narrow sections during ***,the understanding of driftwood dynamics and mitigation measures are crucial for managing wood in *** check dams are the most commonly used engineering measure for preventing driftwood from reaching downstream ***,these open check dams frequently lose their sediment transport function when they are blocked by sediment and driftwood,especially during major flood *** paper proposes a new type of open check dam for preventing from ***,flume experiments were conducted to examine the influence of different types of open check dams on the characteristics of driftwood *** the model with wood length(LWD)=16.5 cm,wood diameter(D)=15 mm,and wood number(N)=172,the highest trapping efficiency was observed with 90.1%and 87.2%retention rates for the classical debris flow breaker and curved footed open check dams,*** tests showed that through this proposed design,woody debris blockage in a very short time was prevented from the accumulation of woods beside the *** addition to this,most of the sediment passed through the check dam and most of the driftwood got *** can be briefly stated that the geometrical design of the structure plays an important role and can be chosen carefully to optimize trapping *** designing this type of open check dams in mountain river basins,it may provide a better understanding of the driftwood accumulation and basis for the optimal design of these *** development of the solution proposed in this work can pave the way for designing different types of open check dams for effective flood management.

This work was conducted to evaluate whether Ca-bearing additives used during coal combustion can also help with the retention of some other elements. This work was focused on the evaluation of bottom ashes collected during four full-scale combustion tests at an operating thermal fluidized-bed power station. Bottom ashes were preferred to fly ashes for the study to avoid interference from condensation processes usually occurring in the post-combustion zone. This work focused on the behaviors of S, Cl, Br, As, Mn, V, Cr, Ni, Cu,Zn, W, and Pb. Strong positive correlations with CaO content in bottom ashes were observed（for all four combustion tests） for S, As, Cl and Br（R = 0.917-0.999）. Strong inverse proportionality was calculated between the contents of Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr and Mn and CaO, so these elements showed association to materials other than Ca-bearing compounds（e.g., to aluminosilicates, organic matter, etc.）. Somewhat unclear behaviors were observed for W, Cu, and V. Their correlation coefficients were evaluated as statistically ＂not significant＂, i.e., these elements were not thought to be significantly associated with CaO. It was also discovered that major enrichment of CaO in the finest bottom ash fractions could be advantageously used for simple separation of elements strongly associated with these fractions, mainly S and As, but also Cl or Br. Removal of5% of the finest ash particles brings about a decrease in As concentration down to 77%-80% of its original bulk ash content, which can be conveniently used e.g., when high As content complicates further ash utilization.
