Can changes in midsole bending stiffness of shoes affect the onset of joint work redistribution during a prolonged run?

Purpose this study aimed to investigate if changing the midsole bending stiffness of athletic footwear can affect the onset of lower limb joint work redistribution during a prolonged *** Fifteen trained male runners(10-km time ofn)performed 10-km runs at 90%of their individual speed at lactate threshold(i.e.,when change in lactate exceeded 1 mmol/L during an incremental running test)in a control and stiff shoe condition on 2 *** limb joint kinematics and kinetics were measured using a motion capture system and a force-instrumented *** were acquired every 500 *** Prolonged running resulted in a redistribution of positive joint work from distal to proximal joints in both shoe *** to the beginning of the run,less positive work was performed at the ankle(approximately 9%;p≤0.001)and more positive work was performed at the knee joint(approximately 17%;p≤0.001)at the end of the *** running in the stiff shoe condition,the onset of joint work redistribution at the ankle and knee joints occurred at a later point during the *** A delayed onset of joint work redistribution in the stiff condition may result in less activated muscle volume,because ankle plantar flexor muscles have shorter muscles fascicles and smaller cross-sectional areas compared to knee extensor *** active muscle volume could be related to previously reported decreases in metabolic cost when running in stiff *** results contribute to the notion that footwear with increased stiffness likely results in reductions in metabolic cost by delaying joint work redistribution from distal to proximal joints.

the lithium dendrite growth is still a serious challenge and impeding the realistic applications of all-solid-state lithium *** view of the amide containing sediment layer can be stable on lithium/cathodes,a composite polymer electrolyte with amide-based matrix is in-situ built on porous *** the introduction of amide,the polymer electrolyte presents excellent ability to inhibit lithium dendrite growth and makes the Li/Li symmetric battery stably work for 500 h with a good ionic conductivity of 4.25×10^(-5)S/cm at 40℃.the solid electrolyte also shows a wide electrochemical stable window and good interface contact with the porous *** this composite polymer electrolyte,the all-solid-state Li/LiFePO_(4) battery shows an initial discharge capacity of 146.5 mA h/g at 0.1 C under 40℃ and remains 81.4%in 100 *** polymer electrolyte also can present better properties after *** results demonstrate that the presented PA-based composite polymer electrolyte could be served as a good electrolyte candidate for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries.

Effect of orientation on the drag of a cone settling in a Bingham plastic fluid

Effects of the orientation and apex angle on the settling velocity of conical particles in Bingham plas-tic fluids are numerically investigated over a reynolds number range of 1 ≤re ≤100, Bingham number range of 0 ≤ Bn ≤ 100, and cone angle range of 20 ≤α≤ 150°. Governing equations (of continuity and momentum) are solved numerically using the finite element method to obtain velocity and pressure fields that are postprocessed to obtain values of the drag ***, the effect of cone ori-entation on the flow field is visualized and explored in terms of streamline contours and the morphology of yielded/uny ielded regions. Finally, the obtai ned values of drag are correlated via a simple predictive expression in terms of the modified reynolds number. the effect of the cone angle on drag is found to be moderate because the drag force acting on the lateral surface is a small fraction of the overall drag.

Hybrid data-based modeling for the prediction and diagnostics of Li-ion battery thermal behaviors

Lithium-ion battery (LIB) has been deployed for the electrification of the transport sector as a key strategy for climate change mitigation and adaptation. However, it has significant technical challenges such as thermal runaway, requiring a good understanding and accurate prediction of the LIB thermal behavior (heat generation rate). In this study, a novel hybrid approach using an Artificial neural network (Ann) is developed for predicting the heat generation rate with discharge current, output voltage, ambient temperature, cell surface temperature, and Depth of Discharge (DOD) as the feature vectors (inputs);where the DOD is estimated with an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), and direct Coulomb Counting (CC) method, respectively. A shallow neural network utilizing the Marquette-Levenberg algorithm is designed and calibrated using over 8000 cases of the testing data. It is shown that the predicted heat generation rate of LIB agrees well with the experimental results with an accuracy of r > 0.995. Further potential of this hybrid data-based model is evaluated by simulating a thermal management system control and by introducing voltage and current sensor faults for diagnostic purposes. It is shown that, when compared to the experimental value, the relative error of the total heat output generated is less than 2% when there is no sensor fault, and greater than 50% and 25%, respectively, with an induced failure of the current and voltage sensor, demonstrating the ability to build accurate models relying solely on LIB discharge data for sensor diagnostics. this study highlights the combination of using battery thermal behavior with machine learning for real time battery system monitoring, controls and field diagnostics.

BACKGrOUnD Hepatitis B virus(HBV)nucleos(t)ide analog(nA)therapy reduces liver disease but requires prolonged therapy to achieve hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)*** is limited north American real-world data using non-invasive tools for fibrosis assessment and few have compared 1st generation nA or lamivudine(LAM)to tenofovir disoproxil fumarate(tDF).AIM to assess impact of nA on virological response and fibrosis regression using liver stiffness measurement(LSM)(i.e.,FibroScan®).MEtHODS retrospective,observational cohort study from the Canadian HBV *** collected included demographics,nA,HBV DnA,alanine aminotransferase(ALt),and *** were HBV monoinfected patients,treatment naïve,and received 1 nA with minimum 1 year *** In 465(median 49 years,37%female,35%hepatitis B e antigen+at baseline,84%Asian,6%White,and 9%Black).Percentage of 64(n=299)received tDF and 166 were LAM-treated with similar median duration of 3.9 and 3.7 years,*** mean baseline LSM was 11.2 kPa(tDF)vs 8.3 kPa(LAM)(P=0.003).At 5-year follow-up,the mean LSM was 7.0 kPa in tDF vs 6.7 kPa in LAM(P=0.83).there was a significant difference in fibrosis regression between groups(i.e.,mean-4.2 kPa change in tDF and-1.6 kPa in LAM,Pthe last available data on treatment showed that all had normal ALt,but more tDF patients were virologically suppressed(n=170/190,89%)vs LAM-treated(n=35/58,60%)(Pnone cleared *** In this real-world north American study,approximately 5 years of nA achieves liver fibrosis regression rarely leads to HBsAg loss.
