Comparison of anterior segment parameters of the eye between type 2 diabetic with and without diabetic retinopathy and non-diabetic

AIM:To compare anterior segment parameters between two groups of type 2 diabetic with and without diabetic retinopathy(DR)and non-diabetic elderly subjects based on hemoglobin A1c(Hb A1c)levels and status of ***:This study was conducted on 997 residents aged 60y or over in Tehran,*** group had Hb A1c level≥6.4%with no other systemic *** non-diabetic participants had normal eye findings and no systemic diseases.K1,K2,mean K,Q-value,anterior,central,posterior,and total corneal densitometric findings,anterior chamber volume(ACV),anterior chamber depth(ACD),corneal volume(CV),and pachymetry were measured by Pentacam ***:A total of 678 non-diabetic(39%male)and 319 diabetic(35%male)subjects with mean age of 66.31±5.23 and 67.22±4.96y were examined,*** statistically significant difference was found in anterior segment parameters between non-diabetic and diabetic groups(all P>0.05).However,middle,posterior,and total corneal densitometric values were statistically different between two groups af ter controlling the ef fects of confounders(P=0.014,0.007,and 0.042,respectively).Corneal densitometric values in all layers,ACD,and ACV were different between diabetic subjects with and without DR(all P<0.05).In the diabetic group,only corneal densitometric values had a negative relationship with fasting blood sugar(P<0.001).ACD and ACV had a negative correlation with Hb A1c levels(all P<0.05,r=-0.129 and-0.146,respectively).However,the relationships were not observed after controlling the confounders(P=0.938,0.466,respectively).CONCLUSION:Considering the higher densitometric values of the cornea and lower ACD and ACV in diabetic subjects with DR,it is suggested that the examiners should perform comprehensive retinal examinations when faced with such conditions.

Receded near point of convergence as a predictor of mild cognitive impairment in the general geriatric population:results from a population-based study

Validation of the Persian version of the Compassionate Care Assessment Tool

Objectives:The present study aimed to translate and determine the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Compassionate Care Assessment Tool(CCAT)■.Methods:The study was carried out to translate and validate of the CCAT■.After securing permission from the designer of the tool and translating it,the psychometric properties were determined through examining face validity,construct validity,internal consistency,and test/retest *** regard to construct validity,confirmatory factor analysis was used so that 300 patients in internal and surgery wards were selected by a simple random sampling method from three *** were analyzed using SPSS(v.24.0)and LISREL statistical software version ***:The results of the confirmatory factor analysis supported the validity and reliability of the Persian version of the CCAT■and its four *** reliability of the tool and internal consistency were confirmed through test/retest method with two weeks’*** the two areas of importance and provision of compassionate care,Cronbach’sαcoefficient equaled to 0.918 and 0.933 and intraclass consistency equaled to 0.848 and 0.907 ***:The results showed that the Persian version of the CCAT©was adequately valid and reliable for Iranian *** the acceptable psychometric parameters of the tool,using it in future studies to measure importance and provision of compassionate nursing care to Iranian patients at internal and surgery wards is recommended.

Nutritional status and neurodevelopmental levels in infants at high risk of cerebral palsy

Importance: Nutrition is associated with neurodevelopment. Infants at high risk of cerebral palsy (CP) usually suffer from undernutrition, yet the relationship between nutritional status and neurodevelopmental levels is ***: To describe the nutritional status characteristics of infants at high risk of CP, and to explore the relationship between neurodevelopmental levels and nutritional ***: This single-center cross-sectional study enrolled infants at high risk of CP, with corrected age from 0 days to 12 months. Weight and height were measured and calculated into z-scores, which were used to classify the nutritional status based on the World Health Organization growth charts and American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition standards. The Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development were used to evaluate the developmental levels of gross motor, fine motor, cognition, receptive communication, and expressive ***: A total of 479 infants at high risk of CP were recruited, with 43.4% classified as undernutrition. Compared to those with normal neurodevelopment, the odds of moderate and severe undernutrition were about 1.8 and 3.9 times higher in gross motor delay, 2.2 and 3.1 times higher in fine motor delay, 2.5 and 9.4 times higher in cognition delay, 2.2 and 3.9 times higher in receptive communication delay, and 3.0 and 5.6 times higher in expressive communication delay. There were significant positive correlations between nutritional status and neurodevelopmental levels (P < 0.001).Interpretation: Undernutrition and neurodevelopmental delays are prevalent among infants at high risk of CP. Worse nutritional status was correlated with lower neurodevelopmental levels.

Auto-refraction versus subjective refraction in different phakic and pseudophakic conditions:the Tehran Geriatric Eye Study(TGES)

AIM:To compare the subjective refraction data with non-cycloplegic auto-refraction findings in the geriatric population above 60 years of age according to the different crystalline lens ***:This report is a part of the Tehran Geriatric Eye Study(TGES)that was conducted from January 2019 to January 2020 on elderly population 60 years of age and above in *** samples were selected by multistage stratified random cluster *** 3791 individual invitees,3310(response rate:87.3%)participated in this *** study participants underwent non-cycloplegic autorefraction(auto-refractometer/keratometer Nidek ARK-510)and subjective ***:Regarding the sphere,eyes with mixed cataract had the worst limits of agreement(LoA:-1.24 to 0.87)and the best agreement was related to the pseudophakic eyes(LoA:-0.83 to 0.54).The highest(0.27±0.31 D)and lowest(0.21±0.27 D)differences between the two methods regarding the cylinder power were observed in eyes with cortical cataract and normal eyes,*** worst LoA between the two methods in measuring the cylinder power was related to the eyes with mixed cataract(LoA:-0.44 to 0.96).Regarding the J0(horizontal/vertical components of astigmatism),the mean values of J0 obtained by auto-refraction were tended more toward against the rule direction in all crystalline lens conditions,and the two methods had the greatest difference in cortical cataract cases(0.05±0.17 D).Regarding the J45(oblique components of astigmatism),the lowest(0±0.11 D)and highest(-0.01±0.12 D)differences were observed in normal eyes and eyes with cortical cataract,***:The auto-refractometer/keratometer Nidek ARK-510 results in the elderly with different phakic and pseudophakic conditions do not correspond well with subjective refraction *** discrepancy in spherical findings is more pronounced in individuals with mixed cataract than in other cases.
