Zhuangyao Jianshen pill(壮腰健肾丸) ameliorates testosterone-induced benign postatic hyperplasia in rats

OBJECTIVE:To determine the therapeutic effects of the Zhuangyao Jianshen pill(壮腰健肾丸,ZYJSP)against benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)and investigate the underlying ***:Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups:co.trol group,BPH model group,finasteride-treated group,ZYJSP low,medium and high dose *** for the co.trol group,40 rats were castrated and injected with testosterone propionate(TP)for 28 co.secutive day to induce ***,the co.responding drugs were administered by *** prostate wet weight,prostate index(PI),and the histopathological changes in the prostate were measured as the basis for examining the efficacy of ZYJSP against *** of the serum sex hormones,oxidative stress markers,inflammatory markers,renal function markers,growth factors,and Cyclin D1 expression in prostate were measured to characterize the therapeutic mechanism of ZYJSP against ***:ZYJSP administration significantly reduced prostate wet weight and PI and ameliorated histological changes of the prostate in TP-treated castrated *** markedly increased the levels of creatinine,blood urea nitrogen and growth factors in the serum as well as the expression of the Cyclin D1 in the *** of these markers were significantly decreased by *** significantly restored the dysregulation of testosterone,estradiol,and dihydrotestosterone caused by ***,ZYJSP relieved TP-induced prostate injury and exhibited both anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity by decreasing interleukin-6,interleukin-8,and malondialdehyde levels and increasing the activity of superoxide dismutase in the ***:These findings indicate that ZYJSP can effectively ameliorate BPH induced by TP in castrated rats,and the underlying mechanism might be related to regulating sex hormone balance,reducing oxidative stress,and inhibiting the inflammatory response.

Mechanical properties and aco.stic emission characteristics of soft rock with different water co.tents under dynamic disturbance

Uniaxial co.pression tests and cyclic loading aco.stic emission tests were co.ducted on 20%,40%,60%,80%,dry and saturated muddy sandstone by using a creep impact loading system to investigate the mechanical properties and aco.stic emission characteristics of soft rocks with different water co.tents under dynamic *** mechanical properties and aco.stic emission characteristics of muddy sandstones at different water co.tents were *** of experimental studies show that water is a key factor in the mechanical properties of rocks,softening them,increasing their porosity,reducing their brittleness and increasing their *** uniaxial co.pression,the macrosco.ic damage characteristics of the muddy sandstone change from mono-bevel shear damage and‘X’type co.jugate bevel shear damage to a roadway bottom-drum type damage as the water co.tent *** perturbation has a strengthening effect on the mechanical properties of samples with 60%and less water co.tent,and a weakening effect on samples with 80%and more water co.tent,but the weakening effect is not *** damage characteristics of dry samples remain unchanged,water samples from shear damage and tensile–shear co.posite damage gradually transformed into cleavage damage,until saturation transformation monoclinic shear *** evolution of aco.stic emission energy and event number is mainly divided into four stages:loading stage(Ⅰ),dynamic loading stage(Ⅱ),yield failure stage(Ⅲ),and post-peak stage(Ⅳ),the aco.stic emission characteristics of the stages were different for different water *** characteristic value of aco.stic emission key point frequency gradually decreases,and the damage degree of the specimen increases,co.responding to low water co.tent—high main frequency—low damage and high water co.tent—low main frequency—high damage.

First-line chemoimmunotherapy(with or without bevacizumab)has improved outco.es in advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Here,this open-label,multi-co.ort phase II study(NCT05329025)was done to investigate the safety and efficacy of QL1706(a single bifunctional MabPair product against PD-1 and CTLA-4)and chemotherapy with or without bevacizumab in this *** were enrolled into five different co.orts based on genotype(co.orts 1-4,epidermal growth factor receptor[EGFR]wild-type;co.ort 5,EGFR-mutant and progressed on EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors[TKIs]).Between June 11,2021 and December 29,2021,91 patients were *** frequent treatment-related adverse events(TRAEs)included decreased appetite(60[65.9%]),anemia(60[65.9%]),infusion-related reactions(48[52.7%]),and pruritus(44[48.4%]).Grade≥3 TRAEs occurred in 30(33.0%)***-seven(45%)patients with wild-type EGFR achieved partial response(PR)(objective response rate[ORR]=45%)and had a median progression-free survival(mPFS)of 6.8 months(95%CI:5.2-9.7).For 31 patients harboring mutated EGFR,17(54.8%)achieved PR(ORR=54.8%),with an mPFS of 8.5 months(95%CI:5.72-not evaluable).Overall,QL1706 plus chemotherapy,regardless of having bevacizumab,was generally tolerable and had promising antitumor activity for EGFR wild-type advanced NSCLC in first-line ***,QL1706 plus chemotherapy and bevacizumab showed favorable antitumor activity for patients who had EGFR mutated NSCLC but failed in TKI therapy,demonstrating a potential for treating this population.

POX1 regulates the formation of viable but non-culturable brewer’s yeast induced by iso-alpha acid from hops

In this study， we utilized gene knockout and overexpression techniques to generate brewer’s yeast strains with either a deletion or overexpression of the POX1 gene. The strains studied included the parental strain， the POX1 deletion strain， and the POX1 overexpression strain. These strains were exposed to iso-alpha acid from hops at a co.centration of 300 mg/L， leading to the induction of a viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state. Our results indicated that the silencing of the POX1 gene rendered brewer’s yeast cells unable to withstand the high co.centration of iso-alpha acid stress， ultimately leading to cell death. co.versely， the overexpression of POX1 accelerated the transition of yeast cells into the VBNC state co.pared to the parental strain. Furthermore， we evaluated the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS)， catalase (CAT) activity， superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity， glutathione reductase (GR) activity， and the mRNA expression of genes that regulate these enzymes (SYM1， CTA1， SOD1， and GLR1) in brewer’s yeast cells at three distinct stages: normal， short-term stress， and VBNC states. Based on these findings， it can be inferred that the formation of the VBNC state in brewer’s yeast is associated with the response to oxidative stress.

[Objectives]To optimize the water extraction process of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma.[Methods]The entropy weight method was used to determine the weight of epicatechin extraction rate and dry extract rate and calculate the co.prehensive *** water extraction process of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma was optimized by orthogonal design with the co.prehensive sco.e as the indicator and the amount of water,extraction time and extraction times as the factors.[Results]The optimum extraction process of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma was as follows:adding 10 times of water,extracting 3 times,and extracting for 60 min each time.[co.clusions]The optimized extraction process is stable and feasible,and can be used for the extraction of Fagopyri Dibotryis Rhizoma.

Electricity generation by Pseudomonas putida B6-2 in microbial fuel cells using carboxylates and carbohydrate as substrates

Microbial fuel cells(MFCs)employing Pseudomonas putida B6-2(ATCC BAA-2545)as an exoelectrogen have been developed to harness energy from various co.ventional substrates,such as acetate,lactate,gluco.e,and *** to its metabolic versatility,*** B6-2 demonstrates adaptable growth rates on diverse,co.t-effective carbon sources within MFCs,exhibiting distinct energy production ***,the anode chamber’s pH rises with carboxylates’(acetate and lactate)co.sumption and decreases with carbohydrates’(gluco.e and fructose)*** MFC utilizing fructose as a substrate achieved the highest power density at 411 mW m^(−2).Initial analysis revealed that *** B6-2 forms biofilms co.ered with nanowires,co.tributing to bioelectricity *** microbial nanowires are likely key players in direct extracellular electron transport through physical *** study established a robust foundation for producing valuable co.pounds and bioenergy from co.mon substrates in bioelectrochemical systems(BESs)utilizing *** as an exoelectrogen.
