Retrospective analysis of pathological types and imaging features in pancreatic cancer: A comprehensive study

BACKGROUND Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most lethal malignancies worldwide,with a poor prognosis often attributed to late *** the correlation between pathological type and imaging features is crucial for early detection and appropriate treatment *** To retrospectively analyze the relationship between different pathological types of pancreatic cancer and their corresponding imaging *** We retrospectively analyzed the data of 500 patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer between January 2010 and December 2020 at our *** types were determined by histopathological examination of the surgical spe-cimens or biopsy *** imaging features were assessed using computed tomography,magnetic resonance imaging,and endoscopic *** analyses were performed to identify significant associations between pathological types and specific imaging *** There were 320(64%)cases of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,75(15%)of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms,50(10%)of neuroendocrine tumors,and 55(11%)of other rare *** imaging features were identified in each pathological *** ductal adenocarcinoma typically presents as a hypodense mass with poorly defined borders on computed tomography,whereas intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms present as characteristic cystic lesions with mural *** tumors often appear as hypervascular lesions in contrast-enhanced *** analysis revealed significant correlations between specific imaging features and pathological types(PsION This study demonstrated a strong association between the pathological types of pancreatic cancer and imaging *** findings can enhance the accuracy of noninvasive diagnosis and guide personalized treatment approaches.

Root canal therapy combined with endoscopic sinus surgery for odontogenic sinusitis:Efficacy comparison in a cohort study

Brucea javanica oil emulsion improves the effect of radiotherapy on esophageal cancer cells by inhibiting cyclin D1-CDK4/6 axis

BACKGROUND Esophageal cancer is one of the most common cancers around the world, and it has high incidence and mortality rates. The conventional therapy for esophageal cancer is radiotherapy, although its effect is highly limited by the resistance of esophageal cancer cells. Thus, strong radiosensitizers can be very crucial during radiotherapy against esophageal cancer. Brucea javanica oil emulsion (BJOE) is a widely used drug against various cancers, such as liver, colon, and ovarian cancer. However, its anti-cancer effect and mechanism and the use of BJOE as a radiosensitizer have not been explored in esophageal cancer. AIM To evaluate the anti-cancer effect and mechanism of BJOE and explore the potential use of BJOE as a radiosensitizer during radiotherapy. METHODs The inhibitory effect of BJOE and its enhancement function with radiation on cell viability were examined with the calculated half-maximal effective concentration and half-maximal lethal concentration. The influence of BJOE on cell migration and invasion were measured with EC109 and JAR cells by wound-healing and transwell assay. Clonogenesis and apoptotic rate, which was measured by Hoechst staining, were investigated to confirm its enhancement function with radiation. To investigate the molecular pathway underlying the effect of BJOE, the expressions of several apoptosis- and cycle-related proteins was detected by western *** lines more than normal cell lines, and it markedly reduced migration and invasion in esophageal cancer cells (EC109 and JAR). Moreover, it promoted cell apoptosis and enhanced the effect of radiotherapy against esophageal cancerous cells. In the viability test, the values of half-maximal effective concentration and half-maximal lethal concentration were reduced. Compared to the control, only around 1/5 colonies formed when using BJOE and radiation together in the clonogenic assay. Biomarkers and potential pathogenesis of colorectal cancer-related ischemic stroke

AIM To investigate the specific biomarkers and potential pathogenesis of colorectal cancer-related ischemic stroke(CRCIs).METHODs A retrospective study was conducted on CRCIs patients(colorectal cancer patients with ischemic stroke without conventional stroke risk factors) registered at seven centers between January 2007 and December 2017. Clinical data and laboratory and imaging findings were compared with age-and sex-matched patients with colorectal cancer(CRC) without ischemic stroke that were admitted to the same hospital during the same period. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to analyze the independent risk factors for CRCIs. A receiver operator characteristic curve was configured to calculate the optimal cut-off value of the products of the independent risk factors for CRCIs. REsULTs A total of 114 CRCIs patients and 114 CRC patients were included. Multiple lesions in multiple vascular territories were common in CRCIs patients(71, 62.28%). The levels of plasma D-dimer, carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA), cancer antigen 125, and neutrophil count were significantly higher in CRCIs patients than in CRC patients. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that plasma D-dimer levels [odds ratio(OR) = 1.002, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.001-1.003, P s(OR = 1.011, 95%CI: 1.006-1.015, P s(OR = 1.626, 95%CI: 1.268-2.087, P sk factors for CRCIs. In addition, receiver operator characteristic curve revealed that the area under curve for the products of plasma D-dimer, CEA, and neutrophil count was 0.889 ± 0.022(95%CI: 0.847-0.932, P s 252.06, which was called the CRCIs Index, with a sensitivity of 86.0% and specificity of 79.8%.CONCLUsION Hypercoagulability induced by elevated CEA and neutrophils may be an important cause of CRCIs. The CRCIs index, which serves as a biomarker of CRCIs, needs further study.

REsULTs ON IVOR-LEWIs EsOPHAGOGAsTRECTOMY FOR 338 CAsEs OF CARCINOMA OF EsOPHAGUs

Three hundred thirty-tight patients with carcinoma in the middle and lower thirds of the esophagus received Ivor-Lewis esophagogastrectomy (separate laparotomy and right thoracotomy incisions) from February 1986 to June 1992. The total resectability was 95.2%. Lymph node metastases were found in 136 cases (40.2%). Postoperative complications developed in 10.3% of the patients. No anastomotic leakage, nor postoperative (within 30 days) death and hospital death occurred. Major pulmonary complications occurred in 28.6% of the patients. The overall 1-, 3- and 5-year survival rate was 88.5% (231/261), 63.1% (125/198) and 48.4% (60/124), respectively. The 5-year survival rate was 64.1% (41/64) in patients with negative lymph nodes as compared to 31.7% (19/60) with positive nodes. The superiority of this technique was a significant improvement of the 5-year survival rate. This was due to better exposure of the operation field which made thorough dissection of lymph nodes possible, especially those along the right recurrent laryngeal nerve. Better operative exposure also provided chances for radical resection with less interference from the aortic arch. It made anastomosis easier to perform so that stenosis and leakage were less likely to occur. Ivor-Lewis esophagogastrectomy was a superior surgical procedure of choice for the treatment of cancer at the lower and middle thirds of the esophagus.
