The severe damage and impacts caused by extreme events in a changing climate will not only make the sustainable development goals difficult to achieve,but also erode the hard-won development gains of the *** article reviews the major impacts and challenges of disaster and climate change risks on sustainable development,and summarizes the courses and linkages of disaster risk reduction(DRR),climate change adaptation(CCA),and sustainable development over the past 30 *** findings show that the conceptual development of DRR actions has gone through three general phases:disaster management in the 1990s,risk management in the 2000s,and resilient management and development in the ***,CCA has been widely implemented to overcome the adverse effects of climate change.A framework is proposed for tackling climate change and disaster risks in the context of resilient,sustainable development,indicating that CCA is not a subset of DRR while they have similarities and differences in their scope and *** is crucial to transform governance mechanisms at different levels,so as to integrate CCA and DRR to reduce disaster and climate change risks,and achieve safe growth and a resilient future in the era of the Anthropocene.

We study theoretically the effect of second-order coupling(SOC)on the tunneling dynamics in a planar four-well system with only one well periodically *** find that SOC between next-nearest neighboring wells facilitates *** to SOC,the suppression of tunneling occurs over a finite range of parameters,in stark contrast to the normal coherent destruction of tunneling in the nearest-neighbor tight-binding *** counter-intuitive phenomenon of SOC-enhanced localization can be attributed to the existence of a localized Floquet state rather than the degeneracy of quasi-energy levels in such a system.

Monitoring deformation is of critical importance for tunnel boring projects. This importance is further amplified for the metro construction project that involves boring beneath or near susceptible civil infrastructures. Here， we present a case study that uses robotic total station to preform automated deformation monitoring inside a tunnel during the excavation. Further， enabled with the Internet of Things technology， the monitoring data are streamlined through wireless internet access points and processed by a remote control center. A complete suite of software is deployed that can 1. process the monitoring data automatically. 2. set different triggering threshold reflecting various levels of hazardous incidents. 3. storing the data for further analysis that visualize the data， quantify overall risk levels and conduct predictive modelling. Built upon this automated system， a triage of risk response protocol is established that preforms reactive treatment according to the levels of reported hazards. A de-risk process， involving third party review， is also established. Overall， this report demonstrates our effort in monitoring the tunnel’s deformation with an automated system to save cost and reduce human induced errors. This report can be a useful reference for other engineers preforming metro tunneling tasks.

Currently, many research from domestic and foreign on improving anti-rollover performance of vehicle mainly focus on the electronic control of auxiliary equip- ment, do not make full use of suspension layout to optimize anti-rollover performance of vehicle. This investigation into anti-rollover propensity improvement concentrates on the vehicle parameters greatly influencing on anti-rollover propensity of vehicle. A simulation based on fishhook procedure is used to perform design trials and evaluations aimed at ensuring an optimal balance between vehicle＇s design parameters and various engineering capacities, the anti-rollover propensity is optimized at the detailed design stage of a new SUV model. Firstly a four-DOF theoretical kinematic model is established, then a complete multi-body dynamics model built in ADAMS/car based on the whole vehicle parameters is correlated to the objective handing and stability test results of a mule car. Secondly, in fish- hook test simulations, the Design of Experiments method is used to quantify the effect of the vehicle parameters on the anti-rollover performance. By means of the simulation, the roll center height of front suspension should be more than 30 mm, that of rear suspension less than 150 mm, and the HCG less than 620 mm for the SUV. The ratio of front to rear suspension roll stiffness should be ranged from 1.4 to1.6 for the SUV. As a result, at the detailed design stage of product, the anti-rollover performance of vehicle can be improved by optimizing chassis and integrated vehicle parameters.

Based on the high-accuracy data obtained from the GPS measurements carried out in 1992, 1995 and 1996, the isochronous active units with different kinematic property inside the North China area have been distinguished, 4 active units and 1 transition zone with distinct differential movement have been determined. They are Ordos-Yinshan unit, Yanshan unit, Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong (Jin-Ji-Lu) unit, Jiaodong-Liaoning-Shandong (Jiao-Liao-Lu) unit and Yanshan-Hebei (Yan-Ji) transition zone. The relative movements among the neighboring units in this period have been given. ① The compressive movement between Ordos-Yinshan unit and Yanshan unit is not obvious with an amount of 0.4(1.3 mm/a.②in-Ji-Lu unit moves E40(S off the Ordos-Yinshan unit and the magnitude is 4.4(1.0 mm/a. ③elative to the Yan-Ji transition zone of differential movement, Yanshan unit shifts W38(N with a value of 2.4(1.3 mm/a and Jin-Ji-Lu unit moves eastward 35( by south with an amount of 2.3(0.9 mm/a. ④Jin-Ji-Lu unit has a tensional left-lateral movement of 4.7(1.4 mm/a in the direction of E37(S relative to Yanshan unit. ⑤ Some area near Tanlu belt which is located in the southern part of Jin-Ji-Lu block has a southward movement 14( by west with a magnitude of 1.5(1.1 mm/a off the Jin-Ji-Lu unit. ⑥ Relative to Jin-Ji-Lu unit, Jiao-Liao-Lu unit has a trend of clockwise movement with a tensional right-lateral motion at the north end which neighbors Yanshan unit and a compressive motion at the south end. It should be noted that the errors given in the paper are obtained based on the divergence among the displacements of the sites in the unit, rather than the value calculated from the displacement error of the sites. The analyzed results indicate that: ① Shanxi tectonic zone and Yan-Ji transition zone are the major tectonic active zones to show the frame and magnitude of interior relative movement in North China area, and others are the secondary tectonic active zones; ② The complete horizontal deformation in

The emergence of building condenser water systems with all-variable speed pumps and tower fans allows for increased efficiency and flexibility of chiller plants in partial load operation but also increases the control complexity of condenser water *** study aims to develop an integrated modeling technique for evaluating and optimizing the energy performance of such a condenser water *** proposed system model is based on the semi-physical semi-empirical chiller,pump,and cooling tower models,with capabilities of fully considering the hydraulic and thermal interactions in the condenser water loop,being solved analytically and much faster than iterative solvers and supporting the explicit optimization of the pump and tower fan frequency.A mathematical approach,based on the system model and constrained optimization technique,is subsequently established to evaluate the energy performance of a typical dual setpoint-based variable speed strategy and find its energy-saving potential and most efficient operation by jointly optimizing pumps and tower *** all-variable speed chiller plant from Wuhan,China,is used for a case study to validate the system model’s accuracy and explore its *** results showed that the system model can accurately simulate the condenser water system’s performance under various operating *** optimizing the frequencies of pumps and tower fans,the total system energy consumption can be reduced by 12%–13%compared to the fixed dual setpoint-based strategy with range and approach setpoints of 4℃and 2℃.In contrast,the energy-saving potential of optimizing the cooling tower sequencing is insignificant.A simple joint speed control method for optimizing the pumps and tower fans emerged,i.e.,the optimal pump and fan frequency are linearly correlated(if both are non-extremes)and depend on the chiller part load ratio only,irrespective of the ambient wet-bulb temperature and chilled water supply *** was also foun

Effect of Atmospheric Haze on the Deterioration of Visibility over the Pearl River Delta

The studies on the effect of atmospheric aerosol on climate and environment are hot issues in the current circle of international science and technology. In recent years the pollution of aerosol is getting worse and worse over the Pearl River Delta. The clouds of aerosol occur all year round, with heavy pollution area located at the western side at the mouth of Pearl River. The haze weather mainly occurs from October to April next year, resulting in visibility deterioration. From the beginning of 1980s, visibility dramatically deteriorated, obviously increasing haze weather, in which there are three big fluctuations, showing the periods of pollutions of dust, sulphate and dust, fine particle from photochemical process and sulphate and dust accompanying with the development of economy respectively. The long-term tendency of visibility caused by fog and light fog does not show a tendency due to human activities or economic development, which mainly shows the interannual and interdecadal variation of climate. The deterioration of visibility has close relation to the fine particles over Pearl River Delta, with half of PM10 overpass the limited value set by national second graded standard （150 μg m^-3）, meanwhile, all values of PM2.5 overpass the day-mean limited value of American national standard （65 μg m^-3）, especially from October to January next year, monthly mean values of PM2.5 almost reach two times of standard value, indicating the fine particle concentration is very high. The ratio of PM2.5 to PM10 is also very high, reaching 58%-77%, higher especially in dry season than in rainy season. Thus it is the fine particle pollution in aerosol pollution over the Pearl River Delta. Compared with the data of 15 years ago, the ratio of fine particle to aerosol has obviously increased.
