Influence of Human Activity Intensity on Habitat Quality in Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park,China

Due to long-term human activity interference,the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park(HTRNP)of China has experienced ecological problems such as habitat fragmentation and biodiversity loss,and with the expanding scope and intensity of human activity impact,the regional ecological security is facing serious challenges.A scientific assessment of the interrelationship between human activity intensity and habitat quality in the HTRNP is a prerequisite for achieving effective management of ecological disturbances caused by human activities and can also provide scientific strategies for the sustainable development of the region.Based on the land use change data in 2000,2010,and 2020,the spatial and temporal variations and the relationship between habitat quality(HQ)and human activity intensity(HAI)in the HTRNP were explored using the integrated valuation of ecosystem services and trade-offs(InVEST)model.System dynamics and land use simulation models were also combined to conduct multi-scenario simulations of their relationships.The results showed that during 2000–2020,the habitat quality of the HTRNP improved,the intensity of human activities decreased each year,and there was a negative correlation between the two.Second,the system dynamic model could be well coupled with the land use simulation model by combining socio-economic and natural factors.The simulation scenarios of the coupling model showed that the harmonious development(HD)scenario is effective in curbing the increasing trend of human activity intensity and decreasing trend of habitat quality,with a weaker trade-off between the two compared with the baseline development(BD)and investment priority oriented(IPO)scenarios.To maintain the authenticity and integrity of the HTRNP,effective measures such as ecological corridor construction,ecological restoration,and the implementation of ecological compensation policies need to be strengthened.

A growing body of evidence from multiple areas proposes that periodontal disease,accompanied by oral inflammation and pathological changes in the microbiome,induces gut dysbiosis and is involved in the pathogenesis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).A subgroup of NAFLD patients have a severely progressive form,namely nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),which is characterized by histological findings that include inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrosis.NASH has a high risk of further progression to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.The oral microbiota may serve as an endogenous reservoir for gut microbiota,and transport of oral bacteria through the gastro-intestinal tract can set up a gut microbiome dysbiosis.Gut dysbiosis increases the production of potential hepatotoxins,including lipopolysaccharide,ethanol,and other volatile organic compounds such as acetone,phenol and cyclopentane.Moreover,gut dysbiosis increases intestinal permeability by disrupting tight junctions in the intestinal wall,leading to enhanced translocation of these hepatotoxins and enteric bacteria into the liver through the portal circulation.In particular,many animal studies support that oral administration of Porphyromonas gingivalis,a typical periodontopathic bacterium,induces disturbances in glycolipid metabolism and inflammation in the liver with gut dysbiosis.NAFLD,also known as the hepatic phenotype of metabolic syndrome,is strongly associated with metabolic complications,such as obesity and diabetes.Periodontal disease also has a bidirectional relationship with metabolic syndrome,and both diseases may induce oral and gut microbiome dysbiosis with insulin resistance and systemic chronic inflammation cooperatively.In this review,we will describe the link between periodontal disease and NAFLD with a focus on basic,epidemiological,and clinical studies,and discuss potential mechanisms linking the two diseases and possible therapeutic approaches focused on the microbiome.In conclusion,it is presumed that the pathogenesis of N

Mergers and acquisitions of Chinese enterprises by foreign investors have moved onto the public radar in recent years.To date,the M&A frenzy has drawn widespread attention,with a mixed reaction from proponents and opponents.Proponents consider such mergers and acquisitions conducive to realizing strategic readjustment of the national economic structure,optimizing resource allocation and improving the corporate governance structure.Opponents,however,are concerned that foreign mergers and acquisitions may jeopardize China’s industrial security and erode the executive power of the central government in undertaking industrial development planning.Are the benefits of M&A outweighed by the costs,or vice versa? The focus column of this edition features two articles which debate this issue from opposing viewpoints.In the article"Positive and Negative Impacts of Cross-border M&A",the authors consider foreign M(?)A to be a new way of boosting the level of foreign investment utilization,and advocate China taking full advantage of this approach.The authors of the article"Self-Improvement Or Self-Mutilation",meanwhile,hold foreign M&A to blame for state-owned asset erosion,and insist that China should oppose mergers and acquisitions of key state- owned enterprises by foreign investors at fire-sale prices.

After su ering from the short nightmare of "market society" in the 1990s,China has found a burgeoning countermovement hastening the birth of a "social market". In a social market,the market is still the primary mechanism of resource allocation but the government employs redistributive instruments to conduct "decommodification" in areas concerning people's rights of existence,letting everyone share the fruits of market operation and letting each social class share the costs of market operation in a bid to reembed the market in social and ethical relations. A litany of social policies enacted in recent years show that the Chinese government has both the political will and fiscal prowess to serve as a midwife for the birth of the social market. Nevertheless,China has yet to strengthen its will and prowess. Today there still exists a multitude of grave problems in Chinese society but it is a historical turning point to see the eventual emergence of social policy whose importance cannot be overestimated.

Background:Although TB health promotion directed at policy makers and healthcare workers(HCWs)is considered important to tuberculosis(TB)control,no indicators currently assess the impact of such promotional activities.This article is the second in a series of papers that seek to establish a framework of behavioral indicators for outcome evaluation of TB health promotion,using the Delphi method.In the first article,we sought to establish a framework of behavioral indicators for outcome evaluation of TB health promotion among TB suspects and patients.The objective of this second article is to present an indicator framework that can be used to assess behavioral outcomes of TB health promotion directed at policy makers and HCWs.Methods:A two-round,modified Delphi method was used to establish the indicators.Sixteen experts who were knowledgeable and experienced in the field of TB control were consulted in Delphi surveys.A questionnaire was developed following 4 steps,and involved ranking indicators on a five-point Likert scale.The consensus level was 70%.Median,mode,and Coefficient of variation(CV)were used to describe expert responses.An authority coefficient(Cr)was used to assess the degree of each expert’s authority.Results:Consensus was achieved following the two survey rounds and several iterations among the experts.For TB health-promotion activities directed at policymakers,the experts reached consensus on 2 domains(“Resource inputs”and“Policymaking and monitoring behaviors”),4 subdomains(“Human resources”among others),and 13 indicators(“Human resources per 100,000 person”among others).For TB health-promotion activities directed at HCWs,the experts reached consensus on 5 domains(“Self-protective behaviors”among others),6 sub-domains(“Preventing infection”among others),and 15 indicators(“Average hours of daily workplace disinfection by ultraviolet radiation”among others).Conclusions:This study identified a conceptual framework of core behavioral indicators to evaluate TB health-promotion activities directed at po

The rapid urbanization of China has increased pressure on its environmental and ecological well being. In this study, the temporal and spatial profiles of China＇s carbon dioxide emissions are analyzed by taking heterogeneities into account based on an integration of the extended stochastic impacts using a geographically and temporally weighted regression model on population, affluence, and technology. Population size, urbanization rate, GDP per capita, energy intensity, industrial structure, energy consumption pattern, energy prices, and economy openness are identified as the key driving factors of regional carbon dioxide emissions and examined through the empirical data for 30 provinces during 2006-2010. The results show the driving factors and their spillover effects have distinct spatial and temporal heterogeneities. Most of the estimated time and space coefficients are consistent with expectation. According to the results of this study, the heterogeneous spatial and temporal effects should be taken into account when designing policies to achieve the goals of carbon dioxide emissions reduction in different regions.

The aim was to evaluate the current state of knowledge pertaining to patient safety and its link to person-centred care. The international relevance of patient safety has expanded, as have the models of person-centred care. Inspired by this new trend, we collated and summarized the literature for evidence of the two topics. The study was guided by Russell, Whittemore and Knafl’s integrative review framework. An electronic database search was conducted for relevant articles from 2005 to 2016. This review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The structure and process of the evaluation of the evidence are described and the findings interpreted by means of a thematic synthesis. One theme emerged: trustful, safe communication in the relationship between the patient, family members and healthcare professionals and two domains;safety culture and multidisciplinary capacity building. The dominant dimension in the safety culture domain is respectful communication, which implies sharing experiences that lead to a sense of control during labour and birth and is related to the women’s feeling of personal capacity. The dominant dimensions in the multidisciplinary capacity building domain are collaborative teamwork, coordination and risk management, knowledge sharing and patient-centred communication. In conclusion, to enhance patient safety, it is necessary to develop patient-focused, evidence-based skills and guidelines as well as a supportive organization. Due to their interaction with patients, midwives’ communication competence on the part of midwives is essential for supporting the birth and fulfilling the women’s needs and expectations.
