The global market of functional foods and demand for a healthy lifestyle among consumers in recent years is growing. Guava is a highly perishable fruit and a rich source of vitamin C. Guava Cheese (GC) is a semi-solid concentrated fruit product that could be consumed as a snack. The objectives were to develop a guava cheese (GC) and determine the antioxidant potential of the product. Formulation consisted of guava puree with added sucrose or agave, chia seeds and almonds. Pectin was added at select concentrations (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%) along with citric acid to enhance the consistency of GC. Physiochemical and sensory parameters were analyzed for extended shelf life (3 months) studies. Moisture content, pH, water activity, color (L*, a*, b*) and texture profile analysis (hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess, chewiness) did not change over the 90-day period. Ash, protein and fat contents of 0% pectin were 2% lower than GC with pectin. Sensory parameters (firmness, mouthfeel, flavor and overall acceptability) of GC 0% pectin and 1% GC were similar. Total content in 0%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% pectin added GC were 150.49 ± 32.76, 340.17 ± 54.65, 346.39 ± 53.04, and 355.72 ± 14.24 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/100g. Flavonoid content in 0%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% GC were 159.73 ± 13.31, 332.77 ± 13.31, 341.65 ± 15.37, and 350.52 ± 16.60 mg catechin equivalent (CE)/100g. Similarly, antioxidant of potential measure by DPPH radical scavenging was similar in all samples (IC50 at 0.8 mg/ml). Guava cheese may be utilized as a healthy fruit snack because of added alternative sweeteners and functional ingredients to obtain health benefits. Adding pectin to guava cheese improved functionality by increasing antioxidant potential as well as physical properties.

Neuroprotective and antidiabetic lanostane-type triterpenoids from the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma theaecolum

Eight previously undescribed lanostane triterpenoids,including five nortriterpenoids with 2 6carbons,ganothenoids A-E（1-5）,and three lanostanoids,ganothenoids F-H（6-8）,along with 24 known ones（9-32）,were isolated from the fruiting bodies of Ganodrma *** structures of the novel compounds were elucidated using comprehensive spectroscopic methods,including electronic circular dichroism（ECD） and nuclear magnetic resonance（NMR） *** 1-32 were assessed for their neuroprotective effects against H2O2-induced damage in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells,as well as their inhibitory activities against protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B（PTP1B） and α-*** 4demonstrated the most potent neuroprotective activity against H2O2-induced oxidative stress by suppressing G0/G1phase cell cycle arrest,reducing reactive oxygen species（ROS） levels,and inhibiting cell apoptosis through modulation of B-cell lymphoma 2 protein（Bcl-2） and Bcl-2 associated X-protein（Bax） protein *** 26,12,and 28 exhibited PTP1B inhibitory activities with IC50values ranging from 13.92 to 56.94 μmol·L-1,while compound12 alone displayed significant inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase with an IC50value of 43.56μmol·***,enzyme kinetic analyses and molecular docking simulations were conducted for compounds 26 and 12 with PTP1B and α-glucosidase,respectively.

As longwall tailgate support technologies continue to be developed and improved, strata worldwide has worked to design and manufacture a revised Propsetter to provide additional support capacity and enable applications at greater mine *** support is targeted for tailgate applications, however, it can also be utilized for roof support in various types of mining *** paper describes the design changes for enhancing the support capacity of the Propsetter to more closely align its performance with other support technologies currently being employed in longwall *** changes to each design aspect of the Propsetter was key to successfully improving the roof support's load capacity while maintaining controlled *** the load capacity would allow a mine to improve support efficiency with a smaller, less intrusive support compared to support alternatives and reduce the cost per foot of supported *** target support capacity was 711–890 k N at 50 mm of deformation to more closely match the performance of competing tailgate supports such as the 610 mm-diameter CAN~.To achieve this goal, changes were made to all design aspects of the Propsetter: diameter, wedge cut depth and angle, pod size, and confinement *** results from the NIOSH Mine Roof Simulator verified that these design changes were successful in increasing the capacity of the Propsetter to the 711–890 k N range at fifty mms of deformation.

Morphological Characteristics of Local Chicken Populations (Gallus gallus domesticus) in Farmed Basins of the Far North Region, Cameroon

In order to contribute to a better understanding of the biodiversity of local chicken populations, this study focused on the description of the essential qualitative parameters in the phenotypic characterization of local species. Conducted in 6 localities in the Far North Region of Cameroon (Doukoula, Yagoua, Guidiguis, Dziguilao, Maroua 3rd and Méri), a population of 240 local chickens, including 172 hens and 68 cocks were characterized in family farms. The choice of localities was made on the basis of their strong potential local chicken flocks in the region. To this end, each animal was the subject of a qualitative description based on the identification of the sex of the animal, the description of the colorations of the plumage and extremities, and the description of the types of format, plumage and crests. All observations were made with the naked eye and in daylight and then photographed. The main results show that the plumage colors are multiple and dominated by the White-Pied-Black (21.7%) and the Mille-fleur (20.8%);the wattles are dominated by the red (60%) and the pink (35.4%);the tarsi are dominated by the white (43.8%) and the black (32.08%);the white skin (92.5%) dominates over the pink skin (7.5%);the “Smooth-uniform” feather is dominant (97.08%), followed by the smooth-crested type (2.08%) and the fries type (0.82%);the medium size of the chickens is dominant (86.66%), followed by the dwarf size (9.58%) and the large size (3.75%). The results of this study demonstrate that there is a strong phenotypic diversity within the local chicken population. This diversity can serve as a basis for the development of selection, conservation and genetic potential improvement programs based on rational exploitation of the local chicken.

Nitrate and nitrite， as long-standing additives used in food industry and particularly prevalent in meat products， are often perceived negatively by consumers due to their potential to produce carcinogenic nitrosamines. Within the past decades， the importance of nitric oxide (NO) has been established for human health， including cardiovascular health， immunizing and defending system， skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation， nervous system， and cognitive function. Gradually， nitrate and nitrite， as the main NO donors， have also been demonstrated to have numerous health benefits in clinical studies. Likewise， NO has showed positive effect on postharvest fruits and vegetables. In view of different controversies， this review comprehensively discussed the effect of nitrate， nitrite on meat products and NO on fruits and vegetables， the intake of nitrate and nitrite by diet， the physiological functions， synthesis and metabolism of nitrate， nitrite， and NO in human body. It is hoped to provide some new understanding for nitrate， nitrite， and NO in food preservation and human health.

This study focused on measurement of the autothermal reforming of biogas over a Ni based monolithic catalyst. The effects of the steam/CH4 （S/C） ratio, O2/CH4 （O2/C） ratio and temperature were investigated. The CH4 conversions were higher under all examined temperatures than the equilibrium conversion calculated using the blank outlet temperature, because the catalyst layer was heated by the exothermic catalytic partial oxidation reaction. The CH 4conversion increased with increasing O2/C ratio. Moreover, the CH4 conversion was higher than the equilibrium conversion calculated using the blank outlet temperature for O2/C〉0.42 and reached about 100% at O2/C=0.55. However, the hydrogen concentration decreased for O2/C〉0.45 because hydrogen was combusted to steam in the presence of excess oxygen. On the other hand, the hydrogen and CO2 concentrations increased and the CO concentration decreased with increasing SIC ratio. As a result, it was found that the highest hydrogen concentrations and CH4 conversions were attained at the O2/C ratios of 0.45-0.55 and the SIC ratios of 1.5-2.5. Moreover, the H2/CO ratio could also be controlled in the range from about 2 to 3.5 to give at least 90% CH4 conversion, by regulating the O2/C or S/C ratios.

The development of artificial supramolecular double-stranded helical structures has received widespread attention;however,the reports focusing on the construction and resolution of double-stranded helical assemblies based on terpyridine are relatively ***,we report a series of extremely low-symmetry double-stranded helicates (S3,S4,and SR/S) based on the head-totail coordination mode of ladder-style ligands (L3,L4,and LR/S),which are apparently different from the conventional helicates with symmetrical *** ladder-style tridentate ligand L3was first designed and synthesized by characteristic consecutive unsymmetrical modification of *** chiral group 2,6-bis（oxazolinyl）pyridine （PyBox） was designed at the tail of tridentate ligand L3and achieved the chiral resolution of the ***,the self-assembly of mixed three ladder-style ligands （didentate L2,tridentate L3,and tetradentate L4） and single terpyridine ligand （L1） with Zn（II） also exhibited excellent narcissistic self-sorting behavior,without any statistical mixture.
