Histologic evaluation of bone healing of adjacent alveolar sockets grafted with bovineand porcine-derived bone:a comparative case report in humans

To evaluate and compare histomorphometrically the bone response to two xenografts,one bovine and the other porcine,grafted in adjacent extraction sockets in a *** this case report,two adjacent maxillary premolars were extracted,and the sockets were filled with two different xenogeneic bone substitutes(first premolar with bovine bone,and second premolar with porcine bone)to counteract post-extraction volume *** 6 months bone core specimens were harvested during the placement of implants at the regenerated ***,for the bovine xenograft the percentage of newly formed bone(osteoid)was 26.85%,the percentage of the residual graft material was 17.2%and the percentage of connective tissue 48.73%,while for the porcine xenograft,newly formed bone(osteoid)represented 32.19%,residual graft material was 6.57%and non-mineralized connective tissue was 52.99%.Histological results indicated that both biomaterials assessed in this study as grafts for socket preservation technique are biocompatible and *** bone derived demonstrated to be less resorbable than porcine bone *** xenogenic biomaterials did not interfere with the normal bone reparative processes.

Efficacy of 2LPAPI^®, a Micro-Immunotherapy Drug, in Patients with High-Risk Papillomavirus Genital Infection

Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are well known for being linked to the development of cervical cancers, most of them being caused by the high-risk (HR) oncogenic genotypes, mainly 16 and 18. The efficacy of 2LPAPI® (Labo’Life), a micro-immunotherapy homeopathic drug, has been evaluated in HR-HPV infected women (n = 18), in a private gynecology practice, by comparing them to an untreated control group (n = 18). Patients were 20 to 45 years old and had cytology with Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Significance (ASCUS) or Low grade Superficial Intra Lesions/ Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia Grade I (LSIL/CINI). Patients freely chose to be treated with the drug or not. Those deciding not to take the drug remained untreated and were followed as a control group. The drug was taken at the regimen of one capsule per day during 6 months. HR-HPV and cytology were evaluated at 6 and 12 months. After 12 months, HR-HPV was cleared in 78% of the patients taking the drug versus 44% in those not taking it (p = 0.086). In patients over 25 years, HR-HPV clearance in the treated group was significantly higher (81.3%) than in the control group (20%) (p = 0.004). The difference in the regression of the lesion grades almost reached statistical significance (p = 0.053). This follow-up confirms that the micro-immunotherapy drug 2LPAPI® is a safe and effective therapeutic approach to treat HR-HPV cervical lesions in women over 25 years.

Cleidocranial dysplasia(CD) is an autosomal dominant syndrome which is characterized by several skeletal malformations such as non-closed fontanelles, skeletal abnormalities of the maxilla and mandible and absence of clavicles. Mid-facial hypoplasia and mandibular prognathism are mostly seen jaw abnormalities in CD. In this study, the combined orthodontic-surgical treatment of a patient with CD with class Ⅲ malocclusion and multiple unerupted primary and deciduous teeth is presented.

Clinical Evaluation of a Novel Blended Mode Diode Laser for Hair Removal

Introduction: Photoepilation by lasers is a popular procedure in aesthetic dermatology for removing unwanted body and facial hair. The use of the most appropriate laser wavelength is crucial as it affects treatment depth and melanin absorption. The three commonly used hair removal lasers are of specific wavelengths: 755 nm, 810 nm, and 1064 nm, each preferred certain types of skin and hair characteristics. The current evaluation reports the safety and efficacy of unique blended modes 755/810 nm and 810/1064 nm diode lasers for hair removal. Methods: Hair removal results from 50 patients treated with the 755/810 nm handpiece and 50 patients treated with the 810/1064 nm handpiece were gathered from a few clinics. 3 treatments on various body areas were conducted 6 weeks apart and patients were followed up with 6 months after the last treatment. Results were evaluated by baseline, follow-up photographs, and hair counts. Results: Treatment area photos demonstrated hair reduction in the treated body and facial areas. Average hair count reduction at 6 months follow-up was 84% for the 755/810 nm handpiece and 81% for the 810/1064 nm handpiece. No significant or unexpected adverse events were detected in any of the patients. Conclusions: The novel blended mode hair removal diode lasers are proven to be safe and effective for hair removal in facial and body areas for patients of various skin types and hair characteristics.

New flexible endoscopic controlled stapler technique for the treatment of Zenker's diverticulum:A case series

AIMTo report about the combination and advantages of a stapler-assisted diverticulotomy performed by flexible *** November 2014 till December 2015 17 patients (8 female, 9 male, average age 69.8 years) with a symptomatic Zenker diverticulum (mean size 3.5 cm) were treated by inserting a new 5 mm fully rotatable surgical stapler (MicroCutter30 Xchange, Cardica Inc.) next to an ultrathin flexible endoscope through an overtube. The Patients were under conscious sedation with the head reclined in left position, the stapler placed centrally and pushed forward to the bottom of the diverticulum. The septum was divided by the staple rows under flexible endoscopic *** eleven patients (64.7%) the stapler successfully divided the septum completely. Mean procedure time was 21 min, medium size of the septum was 2.8 cm (range 1.5 cm to 4 cm). In four patients the septum was shorter than 3 cm, in seven longer than 3 cm. To divide the septum, averagely 1.3 stapler cartridges were used. Two minor bleedings occurred. Major adverse events like perforation or secondary haemorrhage did not occur. After an average time of two days patients were discharged from the hospital. In 6 patients (35.3%) the stapler failed due to a thick septum or insufficient reclination of the head. Follow up endoscopy was performed after an average of two months in 9 patients; 4 patients (44.4%) were free of symptoms, 5 patients (55.6%) stated an improvement. A relapse of symptoms did not *** endoscopic Zenker diverticulotomy by using a surgical stapler is a new, safe and efficient treatment modality. A simultaneously tissue opening and occlusion prevents major complications.

Studies on Methane Emissions from Pastoral Farming in New Zealand

The aim of this paper was to give a basic understanding of studies on methane emissions of New Zealand, as we know the agriculture of New Zealand is pastoral farming, most livestock animals are grazed in pasture, and quantities of methane were released from the digestive tract and animals excreta. In New Zealand some 50% greenhouse gases （GHG） sources are attributed to agriculture and one third is methane from livestock enteric formation. For many years, many researchers have been exploiting the techniques and methods to measure the emission of methane of New Zealand, further more studing the available options to alleviate the methane emissions. Their pioneering work and successful experiences including the determined methods and mitigation strategies are worth learning for scholars around the world. Some of their approaches were not only suitable for New Zealand grazed livestock, but for many other countries, even the animals are intensively bred in pen. The calorimeter/respiration chamber is the most exactly method in present, but it needs expensive equipments and skilled manipulators, so there are still some difficulty in applying this approach extensively in practice. Sulfur hexafluoride （SF6） trace technique is much adopted for grazed livestock evaluating the methane emission, though its veracity was doubted by some researchers, it is still a good option in present for studying the GHG emissions for grazing animals. By measuring the rumen volatile fatty acid （VFA） concentration to estimate the methane emission is a relatively simple approach, it is just only a rough evaluation, and it is unsuitable for exact study, but this method may be used in China for extensively raised ruminant. In present China, the ruminants are fed in an extensively managed state, the diversities of roughage and animals varieties caused difficult to exactly estimate the methane emission. Accuracy of linear vs spiral tomography:Alveolar crest to sinus/nasal floor height

AIM:To determine the accuracy of tomography in the linear measurement of alveolar bone at maxillary sinus/nose ***:Two dry skulls each marked with 10 pairs of guttaperchas placed on buccal and lingual sides of the maxillary ridge were used in this in vitro *** distance between the alveolar crest and the sinus/nasal floor was measured on tomographic views,prepared by linear and spiral *** ridges were then sectioned so that each section would include one pair of buccal and lingual *** actual distances directly measured on the sections were compared to those of the equivalent tomographic sections(the magnification co-efficient was applied).Paired t-test was used to statistically analyze the ***:The measurement error with the application of linear tomography and spiral tomography wasshown to be 0.455±0.838 mm(P=0.029)and 0.17±0.78 mm(P=0.347),*** was a statistically significant difference between the liner tomography values and actual values(P=0.029).This difference was representative of ***’s test was used to assess the±1 mm error;73.7%of the linear values and 84.2%of the spiral values were within the±1 mm error *** Namara’s test did not show any significant differences between the 2methods in this regard(P=0.625).The linear values were significantly different to the actual values(P=0.029)but not to the spiral values(P=0.185).CONCLUSION:Spiral tomography has enough accuracy for the measurement of alveolar ridge *** linear tomography somewhat underestimates the actual values it provides satisfactory accuracy.

Changes of Transverse Mandibular Width in Set-Back Mandibular Surgery: Sagittal Split versus Intraoral Verticosagittal Osteotomy

Aim: This study was performed to evaluate the movement of the proximal segment following different methods of ramus osteotomy that is one of the side effects of orthognathic surgery. Theoretically, with intraoral verticosagittal ramus osteotomy, it can minimize the movement of the proximal segment. The changes in the intergonal distance of mandible and the angle of the ramus flaring in two methods of osteotomy have been compared in this study. Materials and Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, included 60 patients (32 males) with mandibular prognathism and without any asymmetry were selected and divided into two groups (n = 30). One group underwent bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy technique to achieve mandibular setback and the other by the intraoral verticosagittal ramus osteotomy technique. Intergonial width and inner-ramal angle in the transverse plane were measured on radiographs preoperatively and 1 and 12 weeks postoperatively. Data were analyzed using covariance test with the significance level set at P 0.1). Conclusion: Considering our findings, there was no significant difference between two ramus osteotomy techniques regarding changes in mandibular width and inter-ramal flaring angle.

Assessment of alveolar defect volume in unilateral cleft lip and palate patients using a free software program

The purpose of this study was to assess the alveolar defect volume in unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) subjects using computed tomography (CT) and a free software program to evaluate the intra- and inter-rater measurements, and to compare the cleft volume between age and affected side. The sample of this retrospective study consisted of 20 UCLP individuals, 12 boys and 8 girls, mean age 10.3 ± 2.4 years at the beginning of orthodontic treatment. All subjects required alveolar bone grafting. CT scans of the cleft area were obtained prior to secondary bone grafting, and were analyzed using Image J. software program. The cleft volume was calculated based on axial cross-sectional CT images by two raters (orthodontist and radiologist) and by the same rater (orthodontist) at two different moments. Linear mixed model, Bland-Altman, Pearson’s and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were used. The mean cleft volume was 7.53 ± 1.55 mm3. The intra- and inter-rater measurements were reproducible (ICC = 0.976 and 0.963, respectively) with no significant difference between them. There were no statistically significant differences in the cleft volume related to age or cleft location. The assessment of cleft volume in UCLP using CT images and a free software program was a reproducible method. There was no significant relation between alveolar defect volume and age or cleft location.
