Toxic effects in terms of mitochondria and hereditary substances have been characterized in vitro for individual rare earth elements,while,the joint effects of mixed elements exposure in the population remain *** on the occupational Chromate Exposure Dynamic Cohort of China,this study investigated the relationship between 15 blood rare earth elements(cerium,dysprosium,erbium,europium,gadolinium,holmium,lanthanum,lutetium,neodymium,praseodymium,samarium,terbium,thulium,yttrium,and ytterbium)and mitochondrial DNA copy number(MtDNACN)as well as peripheral blood lymphocyte micronucleus frequency(MNF).The elastic net was used to select elements highly correlated with effect indicators,whose dose-response relationships were further illustrated by restricted cubic *** kernel regressionwas employed to explore the combined effects of elements and the contributions of single *** results showed that most rare earth elementswere positively correlatedwith effect indicators,with yttrium showing the strongest association(β(95%CI):0.139(0.1089–0.189)for MtDNACN,0.937(0.345–1.684)for MNF).In the mixed exposure model,with the exposure level fixed at the 50th percentile as the reference,the effect estimates on MtDNACN and MNF increased by 0.228 and 0.598 units,respectively,at the 75th *** single effect analysis implied that yttrium,lanthanum and terbium contributed the most to the elevation of MtDNACN,while yttrium posed the highest risk for genetic damage,accordingly,we provided recommendations to prioritize these elements of *** addition,we observed a chief mediating effect of MtDNACN on the elevation of MNF caused by lanthanum,whereas further mechanistic exploration is required to confirm this finding.

OBJECTIVE: To illustrate the effect of add-on therapy of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) on the long-term survival of anemic lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes(LR-MDS) patients. METHODS: In this study, we conducted a retrospective analysis of the data of patients with LR-MDS who were identified from Shuguang Hospital between January 2006 and June 2020. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate overall survival(OS), while the Cox model was employed to analyze prognostic factors of long-term survival. A total of 162 patients who met the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups: the TCM group(n = 78) or the non-TCM group(n = 84). RESULTS: There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics. The cumulative survival rate of the TCM group was significantly higher than that of the non-TCM group [log-rank P = 0.029, hazard ratio(HR) = 0.484, 95% confidence interval(CI)(0.249, 0.942), P medicine may be a protective factor affecting the long-term survival of LR-MDS patients [HR = 0.509, 95% CI,(0.261, 0.993), P = 0.048]. The hematologic improvement erythroid response(HI-E) rate of the TCM group was significantly higher than that of the non-TCM group(69.23% vs 52.38%; P = 0.028). However, the duration of HI-E and cases of disease progression after HI-E did not significantly differ from the non-TCM group(P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The integration of TCM and Western medicine has the potential to extend the OS of LR-MDS patients when compared to the use of Western medicine alone.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the difference in gut microbiota between population with damp-heat constitution(DHC) and balanced constitution(BC). METHODS: A multi-centered cross-sectional casecontrol study was conducted, which included 249 participants with damp-heat constitution or balanced constitution. Baseline information of participants was collected, and stool samples were collected for gut microbiota analysis. Principal coordinate analysis, linear discriminant analysis effect size analysis, receiver operating characteristic, random forest model, and phylogenetic investigation of communities by reconstruction of unobserved states methods were used to reveal the relationship between gut microbiota and the damp-heat constitution. RESULTS: Compared to those in the BC group, the richness and diversity of the microbiota, specifically those of several short-chain fatty acid producing genera such as Barnesiella, Coprobacter, and Butyricimonas, were significantly decreased in the DHC group. Regarding biological functions, flavonoid biosynthesis, propanoate metabolism, and nucleotide sugar metabolism were suppressed, while arachidonic acid metabolism and glutathione metabolism were enriched in the DHC group. Finally, a classifier based on the microbiota was constructed to discriminate between the DHC and BC populations. CONCLUSION: The gut microbiota of the DHC population exhibits significantly reduced diversity and is closely related to inflammation, metabolic disorders, and liver steatosis, which is consistent with clinical observations, thus serving as a potential diagnostic tool for traditional Chinese medicine constitution discrimination.
