Background:α–synuclein(α–syn)is the main component of intracytoplasmic inclusions deposited in the brains of patients with Parkinson’s disease(PD)and certain other neurodegenerative *** studies have explored the ability ofα–syn to propagate between or across neighboring neurons and supposedly“infect”them with a prion–like ***,much of this research has used stereotaxic injections of heterologousα–syn fibrils to induce the spreading of inclusions in the rodent ***α–syn is able to transmit from the host cells to their neighboring cells in vivo is ***:Using immunestaining,we examined the potential propagation ofα–syn into nigrostriatal dopaminergic(DA)neurons in three lines of transgenic mice that overexpress human wild–typeα–syn(hα–syn)in different neuron ***:After testing for three different routes by which hα–syn propagation might occur,we were unable to find any evidence that hα–syn behaved like a prion and could be transmitted overtime into the DA neurons initially lack of hα–syn ***:In transgenic mice hα–syn does not have the ability to propagate at pathologically significant levels between or across *** must be noted that these observations do not disprove the studies that show its prion–like qualities,but rather that propagation is not detectable in transgenic models that do not use any injections of heterologous proteins or viral vectors to induce a spreading state.

During the COVID-19 pandemic,a multitude of narratives saturated the print,audiovisual,and electronic ***,uninformed,apocalyptic and voluntarist approaches *** notes-written during the pandemic and delivered in the conference series-address the proliferation of such discourses,emphasizing a series of ***,the widespread ignorance about the history of ***,the inability to deal with the uncertainties that reign during pandemic times,as well as the announcements that this extraordinary health/sanitary event would produce a profound watershed in all walks of life and in all corners of the ***,and against the general assertion that“one learns from the past to understand the present,”these notes seek to point out how the present can illuminate the study of the past-or,more personally,what I think I have learned as a historian in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Southeast Asian primate communities:the effects of ecology and Pleistocene refuges on species richness

We examined historical and ecological factors affecting current primate biodiversity in Southeast *** Africa,Madagascar and South America,but not Southeast Asia,primate species richness is positively associated with average rainfall and distance from the equator(latitude).We predicted that Southeast Asia’s non-conformance may be due to the effect of dispersed Pleistocene refuges(locations of constricted tropical forests during glacial maxima which today are at least 305 m in altitude).Based on 45 forested sites(13 on large islands;32 on the mainland)of at least 100 km^(2) to minimize recent human impact,we determined correlations between extant primate species richness and rainfall,latitude and supplementary ecological variables,while controlling for refuges and *** found that refuge sites had significantly higher primate species richness than non-refuges(t=-2.76,Ppresent day primate species richness in Southeast Asia,making its biodiversity less of an outlier than previously believed.

The globalization of Chinese medicine, forged through successive waves of migration, cultural exchanges, and economic imperatives, constitutes a nuanced and intricate process with historical roots extending over millennia. It stands as the culmination of interconnected historical events that reverberated beyond the confines of China, emerging as a phenomenon characterized by the adjustment of Chinese medical theories, clinical practices, and materia medica to indigenous customs and healthcare traditions prevalent in both proximate and distant regions. In these glocalized processes, the global and the local intersect and mix. The frameworks of globalization and glocalization allow a critical interpretation of the many hybridizations that have shaped overseas Chinese medicine's history and present.

Hybrid three-dimensional variation and particle filtering for nonlinear systems

A Hybrid Approach to Maximize Lifetime in Connected Directional Sensor Networks with Adjustable Sensing Ranges

A directional sensor network consists of numerous small sensor nodes that have limited battery power and operate within a restricted sensing range angle. Coverage and connectivity, as two important issues,are widely studied in directional sensor networks. Different from conventional directional sensor nodes in previous studies, those in the present study could adjust their sensing ranges within a range of several values. This paper addresses the Connected adjusted-ranges directional cover(CARDC) problem. The purpose is to organize the directional sensor nodes into a group of connected covers, and assign activities to them, thereby maximizing the network lifetime. We propose a hybrid approach that combines column generation with a genetic algorithm to solve the CARDC problem. The genetic algorithm is utilized to settle the auxiliary problem of column generation, which has the ability to efficiently provide attractive columns for the master problem. Compared with pure integer linear programming formulations, the proposed genetic algorithm significantly improves the speed of column generation method, especially in large-scale networks. The effect variety of number of directions, number of power levels,and communication range on the network lifetime are also investigated.

Brassinosteroid （BR） hormone signaling controls multiple processes during plant growth and development and is initiated at the plasma membrane through the receptor kinase BRASSINOSTEROID INSENSITIVE1 （BRI1） together with co-receptors such as BRI1-ASSOClATED RECEPTOR KINASE1 （BAK1）. BRI1 abun- dance is regulated by endosomal recycling and vacuolar targeting, but the role of vacuole-related proteins in BR receptor dynamics and BR responses remains elusive. Here, we show that the absence of two DUF300 domain-containing tonoplast proteins, LAZARUS1 （LAZl） and LAZl HOMOLOG1 （LAZlH1）, causes vacuole morphology defects, growth inhibition, and constitutive activation of BR signaling. Intriguingly, tonoplast accumulation of BAK1 was substantially increased and appeared causally linked to enhanced BRI1 trafficking and degradation in lazl lazlhl plants. Since unrelated vacuole mutants exhibited normal BR responses, our findings indicate that DUF300 proteins play distinct roles in the regulation of BR signaling by maintaining vacuole integrity required to balance subcellular BAK1 pools and BR receptor distribution.

Dual carbon goal and agriculture in China:Exploring key factors influencing farmers’behavior in adopting low carbon technologies

Synthesis of clay-supported nanoscale zero-valent iron using green tea extract for the removal of phosphorus from aqueous solutions

This study addresses the synthesis of nanoscale zero-valent iron(n ZVI) in the presence of natural bentonite(B-n ZVI) using green tea extract. The natural bentonite and B-n ZVI were then applied for the removal of phosphorus from aqueous solutions at various concentrations, p H levels and contact time. The desorption of phosphorus(P) from adsorbents was done immediately after sorption at the maximum initial concentration using the successive dilution method. The characterization of FTIR, SEM, and XRD indicated that n ZVI was successfully loaded to the surface of natural bentonite. The sorption of phosphorus on B-n ZVI was observed to be p H-dependent, with maximum phosphorus removal occurring at the p H range of 2 to 5. The results demonstrate that the maximum sorption capacities of natural bentonite and B-n ZVI were 4.61 and 27.63 mg·g^(-1), ***, Freundlich, and Redlich–Peterson models properly described the sorption isotherm data. For either adsorbent, desorption isotherms did not coincide with their corresponding sorption isotherms, suggesting the occurrence of irreversibility and hysteresis. The average percentages of retained phosphorus released from natural bentonite and B-n ZVI were 80% and 9%, respectively. The results indicated that sorption kinetics was best described by the pseudo-second-order model. The present study suggests that B-n ZVI could be used as a suitable adsorbent for the removal of phosphorus from aqueous solutions.
