A series of thermochromic polypropylene foils were prepared by embedding various leuco dye-developer-solvent systems in the polymer matrix. Bisphenol A, laurylgallate, ethylgallate and p-hydroxybenzoic acid methyl ester were used as developers, crystal violet lactone and 3,3-bis-（1-n-butyl-2-methyl-3-indolyl）-phthalide as dyes and l-octanoic acid methyl ester as solvent. The molar ratio between the three components of the investigated leuco dye-developer-solvent systems was kept constant. All obtained polypropylene foils exhibit an excellent thermochromic behavior. The foils, prepared by extrusion technology, switch from color to colorless with increasing temperature. The influence of molecular structure of the developer on the intensity of the colored state and the influence of a developer-surfactant complex on the resulting thermochromic properties were investigated. The results are presented and discussed in detail according to a molecular model suggesting that the ring-opening process of the leuco dye is triggered by the formation of dye-developer complexes via H-bondings.

In order to develop a more economical pretreatment method for electroless nickel plating, a dielectric barrier discharge （DBD） plasma at atmospheric pressure was used to improve the hydrophilicity and adhesion of poly （ethylene terephthalate）（PET） nonwoven fabric. The properties of the PET nonwoven fabric including its liquid absorptive capacity （WA）, aging behavior, surface chemical composition, morphology of the surface, adhesion strength, surface electrical resistivity and electromagnetic interference （EMI）- shielding effectiveness （SE） were studied. The liquid absorptive capacity （WA） increased due to the incorporation of oxygen-containing and nitrogen-containing functional groups on the surface of PET nonwoven fabric after DBD airplasma treatment. The surface morphology of the nonwoven fibers became rougher after plasma treatment. Therefore, the surface was more prone to absorb tin sensitizer and palladium catalyst to form an active layer for the deposition of electroless nickel. SEM and X-ray diffraction （XRD） measurements indicated that a uniform coating of nickel was formed on the PET nonwoven fabric. The average EMI-SE of Ni-plating of PET nonwoven fabric maintained a relatively stable value （38.2 dB to 37.3 dB） in a frequency range of 50 MHz to 1500 MHz. It is concluded that DBD is feasible for pretreatment of nonwoven fabric for electroless nickel plating to prepare functional material with good EMI-SE properties.

Extensive neurodegeneration is a hallmark of traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) that underlies permanent sensorimotor and autonomic impairments (Alizadeh et al.,2019).Following the primary impact,the spinal cord undergoes a cascade of secondary injury mechanisms that are driven by disruption of the blood-spinal cord ba rrier,vascula r inju ry,glial reactivity,neu roinfla mmation,oxidative stress,lipid peroxidation,and glutamate excitotoxicity that culminate in neuronal and oligodendroglial cell death,demyelination,and axonal damage(Alizadeh et al.,2019).To achieve a meaningful functional recovery after SCI,regeneration of new neurons and oligodendrocytes and their successful growth and integration within the neural network are critical steps for reconstructing the damaged spinal cord tissue (Fischer et al.,2020).

The Toughening Behavior of the PP/POE Alternating Multilayered Blends under EWF and Impact Tensile Methods

The multilayered polypropylene （PP） and poly（ethylene-co-octene）（POE） sheets were prepared by the microlayered co-extrusion system. The essential work of fracture （EWF） and the impact tensile methods have been successfully used to evaluate the toughening behaviors of the PP/POE multilayered blends under quasi-static and dynamic uniaxial tensile stress, respectively. The experimental results indicate that the multilayered structure plays a key role in the toughening behaviors. On increasing the layer number of the multilayered blends, the specific essential work of fracture, we, increases obviously. As for the flwp, there is no obvious variation in the multilayered blends with low POE content （6.79%）, however, obvious enhancement is observed with increasing the layer number of the high POE content multilayered blends （16.57%）. Compared with the conventional blends, the multilayered blends with 6.79% POE content are effective to increase the value of we. Additionally, the multilayered blends with high layer numbers present absolute advantage in improving the impact tensile values.

Effect of Fumed SiO_2 on Pore Formation Mechanism and Various Performances of β-iPP Microporous Membrane Used for Lithium-ion Battery Separator

In this work, four samples containing different contents of fumed SiO_2 were prepared to improve the pore size distribution and various properties of b nucleated isotatic polypropylene（b-i PP） biaxial membrane used for lithium-ion battery separator. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction（WAXD） and differential scanning calorimetry（DSC） results show that the fumed SiO_2 promotes the formation of b-crystal slightly and narrows down the thickness distribution of b-lamellae; meanwhile, evenly distributed SiO_2 within b-i PP can be inspected by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）. Moreover, further detailed characterization of morphological evolutions during biaxial stretching by tensile testing and SEM manifests that SiO_2 can strengthen b-i PP and make the samples deform more homogeneously, resulting in a gradually elaborate and finer oriented microfibril structure after longitudinal stretching, in which more uniform defects distribute between fibrils and restrain the formation of coarse fibrils effectively. Therefore, more superior microporous structure emerges with the addition of SiO_2, accompanied by narrower pore size distribution and better connectivity between microvoids, which is confirmed by mercury porosimeter and diminished Gurley value. Moreover, the lower thermal shrinkage, decreased shrinkage rate and suppressed porosity reduction indicate that fumed SiO_2 improves thermal and dimensional stability of membrane dramatically. Furthermore, due to the excellent wettability of SiO_2 with electrolyte, the microporous membranes doped with SiO_2 have higher electrolyte uptake, even after heat treatment at elevated temperature.
