Experimental and numerical investigation of liquid-solid binary fluidized beds： Radioactive particle tracking technique and dense discrete phase model simulations

Liquid-solid binary fluidized beds are widely used in many industries. However, the flow behavior of such beds is not well understood due to the lack of accurate experimental and numerical data. In the current study, the behavior of monodisperse and binary liquid-solid fluidized beds of the same density but dif- ferent sizes is investigated using radioactive particle tracking （RPT） technique and a dense discrete phase model （DDPM）. Experiments and simulations are performed in monodisperse fluidized beds containing two different sizes of glass beads （0.6 and I mm） and a binary fluidized bed of the same particles for vari- ous bed compositions. The results show that both RPT and DDPM can predict the mixing and segregation pattern in liquid-solid binary fluidized beds. The mean velocity predictions of DDPM are in good agree- ment with the experimental findings for both monodisperse and binary fluidized beds. However, the axial root mean square velocity predictions are only reasonable for bigger particles. Particle-particle interac- tions are found to be critical for predicting the flow behavior of solids in liquid-solid binary fluidized beds.

We discover that the spatially coherent radiation within a certain frequency range can be obtained without a common nonlinear optical ***,the emission spectra were obtained by de-exciting excited centers from real excited energy levels to the ground *** findings are achieved by deploying a high-entropy glass system(HEGS)doped with neodymium *** HEGS exhibits a much broader infrared absorption than common glass systems,which can be attributed to be high-frequency optical branch phonons or allowable multi-phonon processes caused by phonon broadening in the system.A broadened phonon-assisted wideband radiation(BPAWR)is induced if the pump laser is absorbed by the *** subsequent low-threshold self-absorption coherence modulation(SACM)can be controlled by changing excitation wavelengths,sample size,and doping *** SACM can be red-shifted through the emission of phonons of the excited species and be blue-shifted by absorbing phonons before they are *** is a time delay up to 1.66 ns between the pump pulse and the BPAWR when measured after traveling through a 35 mm long sample,which is much longer than the Raman *** BPAWR-SACM can amplify the centered non-absorption band with a gain up to 26.02 *** results reveal that the shift of the novel radiation is determined by the frequency of the non-absorption band near the absorption region,and therefore the emission shifts can be modulated by changing the absorption *** used in fiber lasers,the BPAWR-SACM process may help to achieve tunability.

Oscillatory Couette flow of rotating Sisko fluid

The oscillatory Couette flow of a magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） Sisko fluid between two infinite non-conducting parallel plates is explored in a rotating frame. The lower plate is fixed, and the upper plate is oscillating in its own plane. Using MATLAB, a numerical solution to the resulting nonlinear system is presented. The influence of the physical parameters on the velocity components is analyzed. It is found that the effect of rotation on the primary velocity is more significant than that on the secondary velocity. Further, the oscillatory character in the flow is also induced by rotation. The considered flow situation behaves inertialess when the Reynolds number is small.

Dose Effects of Ion Beam Exposure on Deinococcus Radiodurans: Survival and Dose Response

To explore the survival and dose response of organism for different radiation sources is of great importance in the research of radiobiology. In this study, the survival-dose response of Deinococcus radiodurans (***, as the control) for ultra-violet (UV), γ-rays radiation and ion beam exposure was investigated. The shoulder type of survival curves were found for both UV and γ-ray ionizing radiation, but the saddle type of survival curves were shown for H+、 N+( 20keV and 30keV) and Ar+ beam exposure. This dose effect of the survival initially decreased with the increase in dose and then increased in the high dose range and finally decreased again in the higher dose range. Our experimental results suggest that D. radiodurans, which is considerably radio-resistant to UV and x-ray and γ-ray ionizing radiation, do not resist ion beam exposure.

Simplified nonlinear theory of the dielectric loaded rectangular Cerenkov maser

To rapidly and accurately investigate the performance of the dielectric loaded rectangular Cerenkov maser, a simplified nonlinear theory is proposed, in which the variations of wave amplitude and wave phase are determined by two coupled first-order differential equations. Through combining with the relativistic equation of motion and adopting the forward wave assumption, the evolutions of the forward wave power, the power growth rate, the axial wave number, the accumulated phase offset, and the information of the particle movement can be obtained in a single-pass calculation. For an illustrative example, this method is used to study the influences of the beam current, the gap distance between the beam and the dielectric surface, and the momentum spread on the forward wave. The variations of the saturated power and the saturation length with the working frequency for the beams with different momentum spreads have also been studied. The result shows that the beam wave interaction is very sensitive to the electron beam state. To further verify this simplified theory, a comparison with the result produced from a rigorous method is also provided, we find that the evolution curves of the forward wave power predicted by the two methods exhibit excellent agreement. In practical applications, the developed theory can be used for the design and analysis of the rectangular Cerenkov maser.

Development of asymptotic magnitude Bode plots for integer-order transfer functions is a well-established topic in the control ***,construction of such plots for the fractional-order transfer functions has not received much attention in the existing *** the present paper,we investigate in this direction and derive the procedures for sketching asymptotic magnitude Bode plots for some of the popular fractional-order controllers such as PI^α,[PI]^α,PD^β,[PD]^β,and PI^αD^β.In addition,we deduce these plots for general fractional commensurate-order transfer functions as *** applications of this work,we illustrate 1)the analysis of the designed fractional-control loop and 2)the identification of fractional-order transfer function from a given plot.

Distinguishing celadonite from glauconite for environmental interpretations:a review

Celadonite and glauconite are comparable in terms of physical,chemical and mineralogical *** of both these minerals requires slightly oxygen-depleted conditions in a semiconfined micro-environment,facilitating the uptake of Fe into the *** glauconite is ubiquitous in marine deposits,celadonite forms in both marine and non-marine environments,more commonly by altering intermediate to mafic rocks.A review of data across the geological column shows that both these minerals are more common in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic,which may be related to extensive *** composition of celadonite and glauconite is highly variable and is controlled by the availability of cations within the pore water *** major element composition of celadonite overlaps with that of evolved to highly evolved glauconite to a large *** data and representative samples of celadonite and glauconite reveal subtle differences in X-ray diffraction parameters and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)*** shows sharper basal and hkl reflections than *** characteristically exhibits distinct 111-021,003-022,023 and 130-131,and 060 reflections at less than 1.51A,indicating a betterordered crystallographic structure than *** FTIR spectra of celadonite and glauconite show similar absorption bands although Si-O bending,Si-O stretching and OH-stretching bands are sharper and well resolved in celadonite than that of *** palaeoenvironmental interpretations,it is,therefore,necessary to examine the subtle differences in X-ray diffraction parameters and FTIR spectra to confirm the identification of these two *** composition of celadonite relates closely to the host rock and depositional *** celadonite associated with mafic rock shows relatively high Fe,Mg and low Al *** contrast,those associated with felsic to intermediate composition rocks show slightly higher contents of Al and
