The hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii Hance(***)may be employed for zinc(Zn)and cadmium(Cd)-polluted soil ***,the low phytoremediation efficiency,related to the low biomass production,limits its use with that *** this experiment,nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P),and potassium(K)fertilizers,and organic manure were applied to investigate the phytoremediation ability of *** and pot experiments were conducted using Zn-Cd polluted *** hydroponic experiment indicated that appropriate fertilizer application could increase(p0.8 mmol L^(−1))P supply decreased growth,and Zn/Cd accumulation in whole plants of the studied *** 0.1 mmol L^(−1) P was an optimal dosage for *** biomass production and Zn/Cd accumulation in *** supply levels within the range from 0.3 to 1 mmol L^(−1) K could significantly improve the biomass production of *** and its capability to accumulate Zn and Cd in the *** 0.5 mmol L^(−1) K was an optimal dosage for the whole biomass production and Zn accumulation in shoots,while the 1 mmol L^(−1) was an optimal K dosage for Zn accumulation in shoots,which was 17.2%higher than the ***,the soil pot experiment showed that the combination of organic(fermented manure)and inorganic fertilizers made significant effects on the Zn and Cd-polluted soil remediation by *** effects varied,however,with the application of different proportions of N,P,K and organic *** Zn accumulation by *** reached the highest efficiency ability under the highest fertilizer

Mining Applicable Elite Alleles of Growth Duration, Plant Height and Panicle Number per Plant by Conditional QTL Mapping in Japonica Rice

Unconditional and conditional QTL mapping were conducted for growth duration (GD), plant height (PH) and effective panicle number per plant (PN) using a recombinant inbred line (RIL) population derived from a cross between two japonica rice varieties Xiushui 79 and C Bao. The RIL population consisted of 254 lines was planted in two environments, Nanjing and Sihong, Jiangsu Province, China. Results showed that additive effects were major in all of QTLs for GD, PH and PN detected by the two methods, and the epistatic effects explained a small proportion of phenotypic variation. No interactions were detected between additive QTL and environment, and between epistatic QTL pairs and environment. After growth duration was adjusted to an identical level, RM80-160bp was detected as an applicable elite allele for PN, with an additive effect of 0.71. When effective panicle number per plant was adjusted to an identical level, RM448-240bp was detected as an applicable elite allele for GD, with an additive effect of 4.64. After plant height was adjusted to an identical level, RM80-160bp was detected as an applicable elite allele for PN, with an additive effect of 0.62, and RM448-240bp was detected as an applicable elite allele for GD, with an additive effect of 3.89. These applicable elite alleles could be used to improve target traits without influencing the other two traits.

Morphological characteristics of tree crowns of Cunninghamia lanceolata var. Luotian

The structural characteristics of the tree crowns of Cunninghamia lanceolata var. Luotian(herein, Luotian), a natural variety of C. lanceolata(Chinese-fir, herein Lanceolata) in China, were analyzed using trunk and branch measurements and biomass determinations. Samples from two typical cultivated varietal populations were collected, including twenty-six 15–23-year-old trees of Luotian from a plantation, and nine 16–23-year-old trees of Lanceolata. Our results show that Luotian and Lanceolata samples differed significantly in crown structure, morphological indices, and biomass:(1) the oldest live branches on Luotian trees were 5–6 years old and 8–11 years old on Lanceolata. The ages of the live branches were not affected by the ages of the Luotian trees, while live branch ages increased with ages of Lanceolata trees;(2) the maximumbranching order of Luotian was level two. Compared to Lanceolata, the average number of first-order lateral branches(i.e., branches emerging from the trunk) and the number of first-order lateral branch whorls per sample tree were 12.9% and 32.2% lower, respectively, in ***, the average number of branches within a single whorl was 21.8% greater in Luotian;the average number of branch whorls at crown height was 51.1% greater. Thus,the Luotian variety has thicker branches;(3) the average lateral branch angles in Luotian and Lanceolata sample trees were 105.2° and 61.4°, respectively. The branch angles in 53.0% of lateral branches on Luotian ranged from105° to 135°, but 30° to 90° in 96% of the lateral branches on Lanceolata. Within the same crown layer, the average branch angle was 1.6–2.2 times greater in Luotian, and the angle was directly proportional to crown thickness;(4) the average base diameter and branch length on Luotian were1.3 cm and 75.8 cm, respectively, and 1.6 cm and112.2 cm for Lanceolata. Effects of Non-flooded Cultivation with Straw Mulching on Rice Agronomic Traits and Water Use Efficiency

A field experiment was conducted to study water use efficiency and agronomic traits in rice cultivated in flooded soil and non-flooded soils with and without straw mulching. The total amount of water used by rice under flooded cultivation （FC） was 2.42 and 3.31 times as much as that by rice under the non-flooded cultivation with and without straw mulching, respectively. The average water seepage was 13 560 m^3/ha under the flooded cultivation, 4 750 m^3/ha under the non-flooded cultivation without straw mulching （ZM） and 4 680 m^3/ha under non-flooded cultivation with straw mulching （SM）. The evapotranspiration in the SM treatment was only 38.2% and 63.6% of the FC treatment and ZM treatment, respectively. Compared with the ZM treatment, straw mulching significantly increased leaf area per plant, main root length, gross root length and root dry weight per plant of rice. The highest grain yield under the SM treatment （6 747 kg/ha） was close to the rice cultivated in flooded soil （6 811.5 kg / ha）. However, the yield under the ZM treatment （4 716 kg/ha） was much lower than that under the FS treatment and SM treatment. The order of water use efficiency and irrigation water use efficiency were both as follows： SM〉 ZM〉 FC.

Application Effect Research on Intimate Natural Forestry Management Techniques for Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation

Approximating-nature forestry management technique application research is developed in Ciinninghamia lanceolata plantation for 17 years at Jiuxian Forest Farm in Songxi county, Fujian *** results show that the biodiversity of the *** plantation was increased from 48.5±3.3 to 74.6±3.3 after adopting close-to-nature forestry management *** with conventional management method,the tested forest’s soil fertility was improved:the soil moisture-physical properties and soil exchange properties were ameliorated,the soil nutrient contents were increased;the average breast height,average tree height,individual volume,Chinese fir stand volume and stand total volume were promoted by 9.24%-17.64%,8.61%- 17.29%,27.94%-58.46%,2.38%-28.64%and 8.63%-37.55%,*** worse the site conditions,the greater the effect indexes with close-to -nature forestry management techniques were improved.

Characterization of Biofilms and Mineralogical Scale in Underground Injection Well Disposal of Landfill Leachate and Industrial Wastewater Streams

Deep-well injection is a cost-effective alternative for industrial wastewater disposal, given the appropriate geology. Fouling of injection well tubing by biofilm or scale is common and reduces the effective diameter of the pipe, which results in increased wellhead pressure and lower injectivity. A detailed microbiological composition of biofilms and abiotic fingerprints use of mineral scale from an injection well has not been reported before. Therefore, biofilm and mineral scale samples from three depth intervals within a deep injection well (surface zone, D1= 0 - 61 m;intermediate zone, D2 = 62 - 457 m;and above the injection zone, D3 = 458 - 884 m) with recurrent biofilm development were collected to characterize the mineral composition and microbial community DNA. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of the solids confirms the composition of the solids collected was mostly calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with minor contributions from common mineral salts. Microbiological fingerprinting suggests that methanogenic archaea and sulfate-reducing bacteria both of which are anaerobic biofilm producers were the most prevalent members of the prokaryotic community at all sampled depths. Methanosarcinae spp. increased with increasing depths, unlike other archaea. A non-pathogenic biofilm-producing Entamoeba dispar was the most prevalent member of the microbial domain (>30%) in all samples but was highest at the middle depth. The Chao alpha diversity indices for bacteria, viruses, and protozoans were highest at the shallow depth and gradually declined with increasing depth. The prevalent species above the injection zone depth are not barophilic organisms that thrive at high pressures, rather they are sulfate-reducing bacteria involved in anaerobic dissimilatory sulfate metabolism.

Biomass Productivity of Taiwania flousiana plantation and Successive Rotation plantation of Cunninghamia lanceolata in Cutover Forest Land of ***

[Objectives] The aim was to reveal the accumulation characteristics and differences of biomass productivity of Taiwania flousiana plantation and successive rotation plantation of Cunninghamia lanceolata .[Methods] The biomass and productivity of the 23-year-old T. flousiana plantation and successive rotation plantation of C. lanceolata were studied at Nandan Shankou Forestry Farm of Guangxi., China.[Results] There were differences in the biomass distribution of different organs of T. flousiana plantation and successive rotation plantation of ***. The biomass for the T. flousiana plantation was distributed in the order of stem 〉 branch 〉 leaves 〉 bark, and the successive rotation plantations of C. lanceolata was stem〉 root 〉 branch 〉 bark 〉 leaves. The biomass of tree layer of 23-years-old T. flousiana plantation and successive rotation plantations were 195.21 and 136.82 t/hm^2, respectively, including 113.32 and 87.91 t/hm^2 of economic biomass （stem）. The annual net productivity of tree layer of the 2 plantations were 8.49 and 5.95 t/（hm^2·a）, respectively, including 5.14 and 3.82 t/（hm^2·a） of stem. Therefore, T. flousiana plantation has higher biomass accumulation ability than that of successive rotation plantations of ***, and can be used as an excellent substitute tree species for the regeneration of *** cutover plantation.[Conclusions]
