The first liver transplantation(LT)in humans was performed by Thomas Starzl on March 1,1963[1,2](Fig.1).During the period 1963-1983,this challenging procedure was performed in four centers only,one in the USA and three in Western Europe:Denver,Cambridge,Hannover and *** collected experience including only 540 cases(meaning 27(!)cases yearly)was the basis of the 1983 National Institutes of Health(NIH)development consensus conference leading to the conclusion that LT could become“a promising alternative to the current therapy in the management of the late phase of several forms of serious liver disease…candidates are those who exhausted alternative medical and surgical treatments…and are approaching the terminal phase of their illness”.Patients presenting liver tumors and inherited,liver based,metabolic diseases could also be considered for LT[3].This conference put forward ten absolute and five relative contraindications restricting thereby the access to LT to a minority of very well selected liver diseased patients.

In order to investigate the role of TiO2 during plasma treatment, the degradation of the dye AO7 has been studied by gliding arc discharge in the presence of a TiO2 catalyst （CGAD）. The results revealed that the adsorption of the dye on TiO2 is a physical adsorption in accordance with Langmuir isotherm, with a constant of adsorption KL ： 0.52 mg/L and a maximum adsorption capacity b = 18.1 mg/g. The temperature variation of the reaction medium made it possible to consider thermodynamic parameters. Indeed, the adsorption is exothermic （enthalpy： △H 〈 0）, and spontaneous （free enthalpy： △G 〈 0）. The negative entropy （△S 〈 0） confirms the affinity of the dye molecules for TiO2. 20 min of CGAD treatment in the pres- ence of an optimal quantity of TiO2 （2 g/L enabled us to bleach the solution of AO7 （100 μM） completely. The discoloration rate with and without the addition of TiO2 was 100% and 28%, respectively. 40 additional minutes of treatment allowed a total abatement of the chemical oxy- gen demand. The elimination of AO7 molecules during the plasma-catalytic treatment follows Langmuir-Hinshelwood （L-H） model kinetics. According to this model, the speed constant is kr = 14.97 mg-L-1 ·min-1 and the adsorption coefficient is KL-H= 0.010 L/mg. The latter being negligible compared to kr, adsorption is therefore weakly performed during the plasma treatment.

Identifying cryptic species poses a substantial challenge to both biologists and naturalists due to morphological *** tabaci is a cryptic species complex containing more than 44 putative species;several of which are currently among the world's most destructive crop *** and delimiting the evolution of this species complex has proved *** develop a comprehensive framework for species delimitation and identification,we evaluated the performance of distinct data sources both individually and in combination among numerous samples of the *** species complex acquired *** datasets include full mitogenomes,single-copy nuclear genes,restriction site-associated DNA sequencing,geographic range,host speciation,and reproductive compatibility ***,our well-supported topologies generated from three dense molecular markers highlighted the evolutionary divergence of species of the *** complex and suggested that the nuclear markers serve as a more accurate representation of *** species *** compatibility datasets facilitated the identification of at least 17 different cryptic species within our *** geographic range information provides a complementary assessment of species recognition,while the host range datasets provide low rate of delimiting *** further summarized different data performances in species classification when compared with reproductive compatibility,indicating that combination of mtCOI divergence,nuclear markers,geographic range provide a complementary assessment of species ***,we represent a model for understanding and untangling the cryptic species complexes based on the evidence from this study and previously published articles.

We present the AS-Index, a new index structure for exact string search in disk resident databases. AS-Index relies on a classical inverted file structure, whose main innovation is a probabilistic search based on the properties of algebraic signatures used for both n-grams hashing and pattern search. Specifically, the properties of our signatures allow to carry out a search by inspecting only two of the posting lists. The algorithm thus enjoys the unique feature of requiring a constant number of disk accesses, independently from both the pattern size and the database size. We conduct extensive experiments on large datasets to evaluate our index behavior. They confirm that it steadily provides a search performance proportional to the two disk accesses necessary to obtain the posting lists. This makes our structure a choice of interest for the class of applications that require very fast lookups in large textual databases. We describe the index structure, our use of algebraic signatures, and the search algorithm. We discuss the operational trade-offs based on the parameters that affect the behavior of our structure, and present the theoretical and experimental performance analysis. We next compare the AS-Index with the state-of-the-art alternatives and show that 1） its construction time matches that of its competitors, due to the similarity of structures, 2） as for search time, it constantly outperforms the standard approach, thanks to the economical access to data complemented by signature calculations, which is at the core of our search method.

Rain-Flow Modelling Using the GR4J Model for Flood Risk Management in the Oti Watershed (Togo)

In recent years, West Africa has been confronted with hydro-climatic disasters causing crises in both urban and rural areas. The tragedy in the occurrence of such events lies in the recurrent aspect of high water and associated floods. The devastating floods observed in Africa’s major rivers have revealed the need to understand the causes of these phenomena and to predict their behavior in order to improve the safety of exposed people and property. The aim of this study is to reproduce flood flows using the GR4J (Rural Engineering Four Daily Parameters) model to analyze flood risk in the Oti watershed in Togo. Daily data on flows (m3/s), potential evapotranspiration (mm/day) and average precipitation (mm) over the basin from 1961-2022 collected at the National Meteorological Agency of Togo (ANAMET) and the Department of Water Resources in Lome, were used with the R software package airGR. The Data from the West African Cordex program from 1961-2100 were used to analyze projected flows. The results obtained show the GR4J model’s effectiveness in reproducing flood flows, indicating that observed flows are well simulated during the calibration and validation periods, with KGE values ranging from 0.73 to 0.85 at calibration and 0.62 to 0.81 at validation. These KGE values reflect the good performance of the GR4J model in simulating flood flows in the watershed. However, a deterioration in the KGE value was observed over the second validation period. Under these conditions, there may be false or missed alerts for flood prediction, and the use of this model should be treated with the utmost caution for decision-support purposes.

Introduction: Stroke may have a negative impact on mental health and behavior. Cognitive disorders are common after stroke. They are rarely assessed in current clinical practice, particularly in our context. They constitute a real “invisible” handicap. In sub-Saharan Africa, we are not aware of any studies specifically assessing executive functions. These functions are at the heart of all adaptation processes to new or complex situations. This prompted the authors to carry out this study at the Ibrahima pierre Ndiaye Neuroscience Department of the Fann National University Hospital Centre (Senegal). Objective and Methodology: The aim of this study was to assess and characterize post-stroke alterations in executive functions in our context. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study. It took place over a 4-month period from April 1 to August 31, 2021. Patients were matched to controls according to age, gender and educational level. Executive functions were assessed using the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB). Results: A total of 30 patients with stroke were enrolled. These patients were matched to controls. The mean age of the patients was 46.87 ± 17.65 years. For the control group, it was 39.27 ± 12.33 years. The prevalence of executive function disorders was 20% in post-stroke patients. The majority of executive functions assessed were impaired. Sensitivity to interference and environmental autonomy were the only ones preserved. Conclusion: Impaired executive functions are common after stroke. They should be systematically assessed in all stroke patients to ensure optimal management.

We give a new justification of the linear membrane and flexural shell models. We prove that the sequence of scaled energy functionals associated with the scaled problem r-converges to the energy functional associated with a two-dimensional model. This two-dimensional model is a membrane or flexural one, depending on the geometric and kinematic conditions. Then, a classical argument allows to give a new proof of the convergence theorems recently obtained by P.G. Ciarlet, V. Lods and B. Miara.
