Transformation of Fibrous Membranes from Opaque to Transparent under Mechanical Pressing

There is a great demand for transparent films,membranes,or substrates in the fields of intelligent wearables,electronic skins,air filtration,and tissue *** materials such as glass and plastics cannot satisfy these requirements because of the lack of interconnected pores,undesirable porosity,and *** fibrous membranes offset these shortcomings because they contain small pores and have high porosity as well as outstanding ***,the development of transparent electrospun fibrous membranes is of great *** work reports a simple and effective way to develop flexible and porous transparent fibrous membranes(TFMs)directly from electrospun fibrous membranes via mechanical pressing,without employing any other *** addition,the relationship between the transparency performance and the molecular structure of the polymers after pressing was summarized for the first *** mechanical pressing,the membranes maintained fibrous morphology,micron-sized pores,and desired *** fibrous membranes,which exhibited excellent optical and mechanical properties,were used as a *** TFMs possessed high transparency(~89%visible light transmittance at 550 nm),high porosity(10%–30%),and strong mechanical tensile strength(~148 MPa),nearly 78 times that of the pristine electrospun fibrous ***,this study demonstrated that transparent and conductive membranes can be fabricated based on TFMs using vacuum-assisted filtration of silver nanowires followed by mechanical *** with indium tin oxide films,conductive TFMs exhibited good electrical conductivities(9Ωper square(Ω·sq^(−1)),78%transmittance at 550 nm)and notable mechanical performance(to bear abundant bending stresses).

The Influence of Peroxide on Bubble Stability and Rheological Properties of Biobased Poly(lactic acid)/Natural Rubber Blown Films

This study investigated the effects of natural rubber(NR)and an organic peroxide on the rheological properties,mechanical properties,morphology,and bubble stability during film blowing of poly(lactic acid)(PLA).The NR and peroxide contents were varied from 0 wt%to 25 wt%and 0 wt%to 0.5 wt%,*** results confirmed that the presence of well-dispersed NR could significantly improve the toughness,elongation at break,and processability of PLA films,where the optimal amount of NR was 15 wt%.For the reactive blending with peroxide,a suitable peroxide content for good film toughness and clarity was 0.03 wt%,while the higher content of 0.1 wt%could provide slightly higher *** contents are considered much lower than that in the PLA system(without NR),which required up to 0.5 wt%*** rheological studies indicated that the melt strength,the storage modulus(G’)and complex viscosity(η*)at low frequency could be correlated with good film blowing processability of the PLA/NR films at low gel *** parameters failed to correlate in the films having high gel contents as the deformation rate experienced by each test was different leading to the different levels of response to the type and amount of gels.

Suppressing interfacial side reactions of zinc metal anode via isolation effect toward high-performance aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Aqueous zinc(Zn)-ion batteries(AZIBs)are one of the most promising large-scale energy storage devices because of the excellent features of zinc metal anodes,including high theoretical capacity(5,855 mAh·cm^(–3)and 820 mAh·g^(−1)),high safety,and natural ***,the large-scale applications of AZIBs are mainly limited by the severe interfacial side reactions of zinc metal anodes,which results in low plating/stripping Coulombic efficiency and poor cycling *** address this issue,we report an artificial Ta_(2)O_(5)protective layer on zinc foil(Ta_(2)O_(5)@Zn)for suppressing side reactions during Zn deposition/*** results of density functional theory calculation and experiments indicate that Ta_(2)O_(5)@Zn anode can inhibit the side reactions between the electrolyte and zinc anode through the isolation *** from this advantage,the symmetric cells with Ta_(2)O_(5)@Zn anode delivered an ultralong lifespan of 3,000 h with a low overpotential at 0.25 mA·cm^(−2)for 0.05 mAh·cm^(−2).Furthermore,the full cells consisting of Ta_(2)O_(5)@Zn anode and MnO_(2)or NH_(4)V_(4)O_(10)cathode all present outstanding electrochemical performance,indicating its high reliability in practical *** strategy brings new opportunities for the future development of rechargeable AZIBs.

Microplastics in the atmosphere of Ahvaz City, Iran

Airborne particulate matter(PM) with an aerodynamic size cutoff of 10 μm(PM_(10)) has been collected using a high volume air sampler at two locations(urban and residential) in the city of Ahvaz, Iran, for sixteen 24-hour periods over four months(late summer to early winter).Microplastics(MPs) in the PM were isolated after sample digestion and were subsequently characterised by established techniques. All MPs sampled(n = 322) were of a fibrous nature,with polyethylene terephthalate, nylon and polypropylene being the dominant polymers and consistent with textiles and fabrics as the principal source. Despite a distinct seasonality(temperature and wind) over the study period, the abundance, size and colour of the fibres exhibited no clear temporal trend, and no clear differences were observed between the two sites. Concentrations of MPs ranged from none detected to about 0.017/m^(3)(median = 0.0065/m^(3)) and are at the low end of ranges reported in the recent literature for various urban and remote locations. While some MPs may have a local origin, the weathering of other MPs and their acquisition of extraneous geosolids and salts suggests that long-range transport is also important. Back-trajectory calculations indicate that regional sources are mainly to the north and west of Ahvaz, but a southerly, maritime source is also possible in late autumn. Although concentrations of MPs in the atmosphere are well below those encountered in indoor air, further studies are required to elucidate their potential ecological impacts.

Effects of probiotic supplementation on abdominal pain severity in pediatric patients with irritable bowel syndrome:a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

Background Probiotic supplementation has been used to alleviate abdominal pain in children and adolescents with irritable bowel syndrome(IBS),but the evidence is not ***,a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials(RCTs)were performed to investigate the effects of probiotic supplementation on abdominal pain in pediatric patients with *** PubMed/MEDLINE,Web of science,Scopus,Cochrane Library,and Embase were the available databases searched to find relevant randomized clinical trials up to April *** effect size was expressed as weighted mean differenee(WMD)and 95% confidence interval(CI).Results Seven RCTs with 441 participants were included,from which the meta-analysis demonstrated that probiotic supplementation has a significant effect on reducing abdominal pain in pediatric patients with IBS(WMD=-2.36:95%CI-4.12 to-0.60;P=0.009).Although our study involved children and adolescents(≤18 years),the effects of probiotic supplementation seem to be more potent in patients under 10 years old(WMD=-2.55;95%CI-2.84 to -2.27)compared to patients aged 10-18 years(WMD=-1.70;95%CI-2.18 to -1.22).The length of supplementation longer than four weeks was more effective(WMD=-2.43;95%CI-2.76 to -2.09).Conclusion Probiotic supplementation can reduce abdominal pain in pediatric patients with IBS.

LoColms:an innovative approach of enhancing traditional classroom form of education by promoting web-based distance learning in the poorer countries

There have been numerous attempts recently to promote technology based education (Shrestha, 1997) in the poorer third world countries, but so far all these have not provided a sustainable solution as they are either centered and controlled from abroad and relying solely on foreign donors for their sustenance or they are not web based, which make distribution problematic, and some are not affordable by most of the local population in these places. In this paper we discuss an application, the Local College Learning Management System (LoColms), which we are developing, that is both sustainable and economical to suit the situation in these countries. The application is a web based system, and aims at improving the traditional form of education by empowering the local universities. Its economicability comes from the fact that it is supported by traditional communication technology, the public switching telephone network system, PSTN, which eliminates the need for packet switched or dedicated private virtual networks (PVN) usually required in similar situations. At a later stage, we shall incorporate ontology and paging tools to improve resource sharability and storage optimization in the Proxy Caches (ProCa) and LoColms servers. The system is based on the client/server paradigm and its infrastructure consists of the PSTN, ProCa, with the learning centers accessing the universities by means of point to point protocol (PPP).

Promotion of Ionic Liquid to Dimethyl Carbonate Synthesis from Methanol and Carbon Dioxide

Promotion of ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (emimBr), to the synthesis of dimethyl car-bonate (DMC) from methanol and carbon dioxide in the presence of potassium carbonate and less amount of methyl iodide under mild conditions was investigated. The results showed that the high selectivity and raised yield of DMC was achieved due to the addition of emimBr in the reaction system. And effect of several reaction conditions such as temperature, pressure and amount of emimBr was discussed.
