Experimental analysis of matrix moveable oil saturation in tight sandstone reservoirs of the south Ordos Basin,China

Tight oil reservoirs in the south Ordos Basin are characterized by fractured,heterogeneous oil-bearing strata(an oil saturation of less than 55%on average),normal pressure(0.8±)and extra-low permeability(less than 0.3 mD).In the Chang 8 tight sandstone reservoir in Honghe oilfield,micro-and nanopores,especially those with a pore-throat radius of less than 1 mm,account for more than 90%.Fluid flow in the matrix is non-linear and crude oil flow rates are very low under normal pressure *** improved understanding of oil mobility in a tight matrix is key to further development of normalpressure tight-oil resources in the continental *** this study,constant-velocity and high-pressure mercury injection experiments were conducted using samples of typical tight sandstone cores obtained from the south of Ordos Basin.A new method for reconstructing the full-scale pore-throat distribution characteristics of tight sandstone reservoirs was established successfully,based on which multistage centrifugal tests,tests of low-pressure differential displacement of oil by water,and nuclear magnetic resonance tests were conducted in order to obtain the distribution characteristics of moveable fluid in different *** moveable oil saturation(MOS)and degree of oil recovery(*** of accumulative oil production to producing geologic reserves)of the core samples under different differential pressures for displacement were *** for the tight oil reservoirs in the south Ordos Basin,the moveable fluids are mainly stored in sub-micron(0.10-0.5 mm)*** Type I reservoirs(k>0.1 mD),the volume percentage of moveable fluid in pores with a radius larger than 0.5 mm is relatively high(greater than 40%).The degree of oil recovery of water flooding serves as the basis for forecasting recoverable reserves for tight oil *** reserves under water flooding,mainly occur in pores with a radius greater than 0.5 *** contribution of Type I reserves to oil pro

The molecular compositions and stable carbon and hydrogen isotopic compositions of natural gas from the Xinchang gas field in the Sichuan Basin were investigated to determine the genetic types. The natural gas is mainly composed of methane （88.99%-98.01%）, and the dryness coefficient varies between 0.908 and 0.997. The gas generally displays positive alkane carbon and hydrogen isotopic series. The geochemical characteristics and gas-source correlation indicate that the gases stored in the 5th member of the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation are coal-type gases which are derived from source rocks in the stratum itself. The gases reservoired in the 4th member of the Xujiahe Formation and Jurassic strata in the Xinchang gas field are also coal-type gases that are derived from source rocks in the 3rd and 4th members of the Xujiahe Formation. The gases reservoired in the 2nd member of the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation are mainly coal-type gases with small amounts of oil-type gas that is derived from source rocks in the stratum itself. This is accompanied by a small amount of contribution brought by source rocks in the Upper Triassic Ma＇antang and Xiaotangzi formations. The gases reservoired in the 4th member of the Middle Triassic Leikoupo Formation are oil-type gases and are believed to be derived from the secondary cracking of oil which is most likely to be generated from the Upper Permian source rocks.

The turbidite is favorable for accumulation of oil and gas and it is the most important reservoir in the deepwater area of West ***,some commercial discoveries in such the deepwater area generally belong to turbidite sandstone *** on comprehensive analysis of lithology,lithofacies and configuration of the turbidite,and combined with changes of seismic attributes and sedimentary cycle,the turbidite in the deepwater area of West Africa can be classified into by-pass channel(including the constructive by-pass channel and the erosive by-pass channel),confined channel complex,weakly confined channel complex,and *** types of turbidite reservoirs have different physical property,so there are differences in hydrocarbon exploration potential;the sandstone in the weakly confined channel complex is the key exploration target in the deepwater area of the Angola Sea.

Through comprehensive analysis of source rocks and hydrocarbon geochemical data of several offshore blocks in Angola,two sets of source rocks in the Cretaceous Iabe Formation and Lower Oligocene Malembo Formation are developed in the suprasalt structures in deep water *** source rocks in the Cretaceous Iabe Formation is dominated by Type I kerogen,while the source rocks in the Lower Oligocene Malembo Formation is dominated by Type IIeIII kerogen which mainly generate *** the extensional zone,the source rocks in the Malembo Formation are mature and the source rocks in the Iabe Formation are post-matured;this zone undergo multi-stage filling,and the Oligocene paleoreservoirs experience high-temperature pyrolysis to form gas reservoirs;the Upper Miocene reservoirs undergo biodegradation due to poor storage *** the transitional zone,oil and gas in the drape anticline area are mainly from the Iabe Formation,and it mix with a small amount of oil and gas from the Malembo Formation in the later *** the compression zone,the crude oil is from the Iabe Formation at the mature stage,and contains a small amount of dissolved gas generated by thermal degradation.

The Triassic massive sandstone reservoir in the Tahe oilfield has a strong bottom-water drive and is characterized by great burial depth,high temperature and salinity,a thin pay zone,and strong *** present,the water-cut is high in each block within the reservoir;some wells are at an ultrahigh water-cut stage.A lack of effective measures to control water-cut rise and stabilize oil production have necessitated the application of enhanced oil recovery(EOR)*** paper investigates the development and technological advances for oil reservoirs with strong edge/bottom-water drive globally,and compares their application to reservoirs with characteristics similar to the Tahe *** the technological advances,gas injection from the top and along the direction of structural dip has been used to optimize the flow field in a typical bottom-water drive ***-water coning is restrained by gas injection-assisted water *** addition,increasing the lateral driving pressure differential improves the plane sweep efficiency which enhances oil recovery in *** injection technology in combination with technological measures like channeling prevention and blocking,and water plugging and profile control,can achieve better results in reservoir *** flooding tests in the Tahe oilfield are of great significance to identifying which EOR technology is the most effective and has the potential of large-scale application for improving development of deep reservoirs with a strong bottomwater drive.

Deep carbonate rocks are important targets for oil and gas exploration in China. In recent years, significant oil/gas discoveries have been made in the deep carbonate sequences in the Tarim, Sichuan, Ordos, and Bohai Bay basins. Despite significant oil/gas discoveries, large-scale exploration has not been conducted in the Gucheng area in the Tarim Basin. To break the bottleneck restricting the petroleum exploration in the Gucheng area, this study analyzed the factors controlling the formation of carbonate reservoirs of the Yingshan Formation in the Gucheng area in detail based on the basic geological conditions of the study area and the data from cores, thin sections, well logging, testing, and 3-D seismic survey. The inner shallow-ramp in the Gucheng area acts as the main sedimentary facies zone for the development of high-quality reservoirs. The grainstones formed in the high-energy environment of the inner shallow-ramp laid the foundation for subsequent reservoir development in the study area. The dolomitized shoal grainstones in the inner shallow-ramp have well-developed intercrystalline pores and intercrystalline dissolved pores due to later dolomitization, thus serving as high-quality reservoirs. Strike-slip faults are crucial to reservoir reformation and determine whether high production can be achieved in oil and gas exploitation in the study area. Moreover, later reformation by hydrothermal solutions also plays a constructive role in reservoir formation.

Turbidity channels have been considered as one of the important types of deepwater reservoir, and the study of their architecture plays a key role in efficient development of an oil field. To better understand the reservoir architecture of the lower Congo Basin M oilfield, semiquantitative–quantitative study on turbidity channel depositional architecture patterns in the middle to lower slopes was conducted with the aid of abundant high quality materials（core, outcrop, logging and seismic data）,employing seismic stratigraphy, seismic sedimentology and sedimentary petrography methods. Then, its sedimentary evolution was analyzed accordingly. The results indicated that in the study area, grade 3 to grade 5 architecture units were single channel, complex channel and channel systems, respectively. Single channel sinuosity is negatively correlated with the slope, as internal grains became finer and thickness became thinner from bottom to top, axis to edge. The migration type of a single channel within one complex channel can be lateral migration and along paleocurrent migration horizontally, and lateral,indented and swing stacking in section view. Based on external morphological characteristics and boundaries,channel systems are comprised of a weakly confining type and a non-confining type. The O73 channel system can be divided into four complex channels named S1–S4, from bottom to top, with gradually less incision and more accretion. The study in this article will promote deeper understanding of turbidity channel theory, guide 3D geological modeling in reservoir development and contribute to efficient development of such reservoirs.
