Experimental investigation on the cuttings formation process and its relationship with cutting force in single PDC cutter tests

The single polycrystalline diamond compact(PDC)cutter test is widely used to investigate the mecha-nism of rock-breaking.The generated cuttings and cutting force are important indexes reflecting the rock failure process.However,they were treated as two separate parameters in previous publications.In this study,through a series of rock block cutting tests,the relationship between them was investigated to obtain an in-depth understanding of the formation of cuttings.In addition,to validate the standpoints obtained in the aforementioned experiments,rock sheet cutting tests were conducted and the rock failure process was monitored by a high-speed camera frame by frame.The cutting force was recorded with the same sampling rate as the camera.By this design,every sampled point of cutting force can match a picture captured by the camera,which reflects the interaction between the rock and the cutter.The results indicate that the increase in cutting depth results in a transition of rock failure modes.At shallow cutting depth,ductile failure dominates and all the cuttings are produced by the compression of the cutter.The corresponding cutting force fluctuates slightly.However,beyond the critical depth,brittle failure occurs and chunk-like cuttings appear,which leads to a sharp decrease in cutting force.After that,the generation of new surface results in a significant decrease in actual cutting depth,a parameter proposed to reflect the interaction between the rock and the cutter.Consequently,ductile failure dominates again and a slight fluctuation of cutting force can be detected.As the cutter moves to the rock,the actual cutting depth gradually increases,which results in the subsequent generation of chunk-like cuttings.It is accompanied by an obvious cutting force drop.That is,ductile failure and brittle failure,one following another,present at large cutting depth.The transition of rock failure mode can be correlated with the variation of cutting force.Based on the results of this paper,the real-time monitoring of torque ma

The research progress of isotopic fractionation in the process of shale gas/coalbed methane migration has been reviewed from three aspects: characteristics and influencing factors, mechanism and quantitative characterization model, and geological application. It is found that the isotopic fractionation during the complete production of shale gas/coalbed methane shows a four-stage characteristic of “stable-lighter-heavier-lighter again”, which is related to the complex gas migration modes in the pores of shale/coal. The gas migration mechanisms in shale/coal include seepage, diffusion, and adsorption/desorption. Among them, seepage driven by pressure difference does not induce isotopic fractionation, while diffusion and adsorption/desorption lead to significant isotope fractionation. The existing characterization models of isotopic fractionation include diffusion fractionation model, diffusion-adsorption/desorption coupled model, and multi-scale and multi-mechanism coupled model. Results of model calculations show that the isotopic fractionation during natural gas migration is mainly controlled by pore structure, adsorption capacity, and initial/boundary conditions of the reservoir rock. So far, the isotope fractionation model has been successfully used to evaluate critical parameters, such as gas-in-place content and ratio of adsorbed/free gas in shale/coal etc. Furthermore, it has shown promising application potential in production status identification and decline trend prediction of gas well. Future research should focus on:(1) the co-evolution of carbon and hydrogen isotopes of different components during natural gas migration,(2) the characterization of isotopic fractionation during the whole process of gas generation-expulsion-migration-accumulation-dispersion, and(3) quantitative characterization of isotopic fractionation during natural gas migration in complex pore-fracture systems and its application.

Petrogenesis of the Dengying Formation dolomite in northeast sichuan Basin， SW China: Constraints from carbon-oxygen isotopic and trace elemental data

The widespread dolomite of the Sinian Dengying Formation in the sichuan Basin (China) serves as one of the most important oil and gas reservoir rocks of the basin. Well WT1， as an exploration well， is recently drilled in the Kaijiang County， northeastern sichuan Basin (SW China)， and it drills through the Dengying Formation dolomite at the depth interval of 7500–7580 m. In this study， samples are systematically collected from the cores of that interval， followed by new analyses of carbon-oxygen isotope， major elements， trace elements and rare earth elements (REEs). The Dengying Formation dolomites of Well WT1 have δC values of 0.37‰ to 2.91‰ and δO values of -5.72‰ to -2.73‰， indicating that the dolomitization fluid is derived from contemporary seawater in the near-surface environment， rather than the burial environment. Based on the REE patterns， we recognize the seawater-sourced components， the mixed-sourced components and the terrigenous-sourced components， indicating the marine origin of the dolomite with detrital contamination and diagenetic alteration. Moreover， high Al， Th， and Zr contents indicate significant detrital contamination derived from clay and quartz minerals， and high Sr/Ba and Sr/Cu ratios imply a relatively dry depositional environment with extremely high seawater salinity， intensive evaporation， and strong influences of terrigenous sediment.

Experimental study on gas slippage of Marine Shale in Southern China

The shale gas reservoirs are composed of porous media of different length scales such as nanopores,micropores,natural fractures and hydraulic fractures,which lead to high heterogeneity.gas flow from pores to fractures is under different flow regimes and in the control of various flow mechanisms.The gas slippage would have significant effects on gas flow in shale.To obtain the effect of slippage on gas flow in matrix and fractures,contrast experiments were run by using cores with penetration fractures and no fractures from Marine Shale in Southern China under constant confining pressure.The results showed that slippage effect dominates and increases the gas permeability of cores without fractures.To cores with penetration fractures,slippage effect is associated with the closure degree of fractures.Slippage dominates when fractures close under low pore pressure.Slippage weakens due to the fractures opening under high pore pressure.Fracture opening reduces the seepage resistance and slippage effect.The Forchheimer effect occurs and leads to a permeability reduction.

Supply&demand pattern and development trends of natural gas in northeast Asia The consumption of natural gas in northeast Asia is over half that of the Asia-Pacific region Since 2010,with the global economic recovery,the long-term upward trend of natural gas demand has been restored.The annual year-onyear growth rate has been maintained at about 2%and the annual output has been higher than the consumption.2017 witnessed world natural gas consumption reaches 367.04 billion m3,representing a year-on-year growth rate of 3%,higher than the average growth rate of 2.2%in the past 10 years.
