Development,sand control mechanism and hydrocarbon accumulation of beach-bar sandstone in a saline lake basin:A case from the Neogene of southwestern Qaidam Basin,NW China

Based on the data of field outcrops,drilling cores,casting thin sections,well logging interpretation,oil/gas shows during drilling,and oil/gas testing results,and combined with modern salt-lake sediments in the Qinghai Lake,the Neogene saline lake beach-bars in southwestern Qaidam Basin are studied from the perspective of sedimentary characteristics,development patterns,sand control factors,and hydrocarbon accumulation characteristics.Beach-bar sand bodies are widely developed in the Neogene saline lake basin,and they are lithologically fine sandstone and siltstone,with wavy bedding,low-angle cross bedding,and lenticular-vein bedding.In view of spatial-temporal distribution,the beach-bar sand bodies are stacked in multiple stages vertically,migratory laterally,and extensive and continuous in NW-SE trending pattern in the plane.The stacking area of the Neogene beach-bar sandstone is predicted to be 3000 km^(2).The water salinity affects the sedimentation rate and offshore distance of beach-bar sandstone,and the debris input from the source area affects the scale and enrichment of beach-bar sandstone.The ancient landform controls the morphology and stacking style of beach-bar sandstone,and the northwest monsoon driving effect controls the long-axis extension direction of beach-bar sandstone.The beach-bars have a reservoir-forming feature of“one reservoir in one sand body”,with thick beach-bar sand bodies controlling the effective reservoir distribution and oil-source faults controlling the oil/gas migration and accumulation direction.Three favorable exploration target zones in Zhahaquan,Yingdong-eastern Wunan and Huatugou areas are proposed based on the analysis of reservoir-forming elements.

Geochemical characteristics of abiogenic alkane gases

Recently abiogenic alkanes have been found in various locations in the world and other celestial bodies. The chemical composition of abiogenic alkane gases varies widely. The content of methane is low and nearly no C2+ is found in the abiogenic alkane gases from fluid inclusions in volcanic rocks or hot springs in China. In the unsedimented submarine hydrothermal vent system C1/C2+ ratios are much greater than those for the thermogenic gases, mostly >800 and in some cases up to 8,000. In the Songliao Basin, China, C1/C2+ of some abiogenic gases are often less than 150. Abiogenic alkane gases which have been found in nature often have carbon isotopic reversal among C1–C4 alkanes (δ13C1>δ13C2>δ13C3>δ13C4), whereas both regular and reversed hydrogen isotope distribution pattern among C1–C4 alkanes have been reported. The δ13C of abiogenic methane is mainly greater than ?30‰ though laboratory synthesized methane can have δ13C as low as ?57‰, and its δD1 values vary widely and overlap with biogenic gases. High 3He/4He ratios often indicate the addition of mantle-derived helium and are related to abiogenic gases. However, some biogenic gases can also have high 3He/4He ratios up to 8. The CH4/3He end-member is often lower than 106 for abiogenic alkane gases while greater than 1013 for biogenic gases, and the values between these two end-members often reflect the mixing of biogenic and abiogenic gases.

Basement faults and volcanic rock distributions in the Ordos Basin

Volcanic rocks in the Ordos Basin are of mainly two types: one in the basin and the other along the margin of the basin. Besides those along the margin, the marginal volcanic rocks also include the volcanic rocks in the Yinshanian orogenic belt north of the basin. Based on the latest collection of gravitational and aeromagnetic data, here we interpret basement faults in the Ordos Basin and its peripheral region, compare the faults derived from aeromagnetic data with those from seismic data, and identify the geological ages of the fault development. Two aeromagnetic anomaly zones exist in the NE-trending faults of the southern basin, and they are in the volcanic basement formed in pre-Paleozoic. These NE-trending faults are the channel of volcanic material upwelling in the early age (Archean-Neoproterozoic), where igneous rocks and sedimentary rocks stack successively on both sides of the continental nucleus. In the Cambrian, the basin interior is relatively stable, but in the Late Paleozoic and Mesozoic, the basin margin underwent a number of volcanic activities, accompanied by the formation of nearly north-south and east-west basement faults in the basin periphery and resulting in accumulation of great amount of volcanic materials. Volcanic tuff from the basin periphery is discovered in the central basin and volcanic materials are exposed in the margins of the basin. According to the source-reservoir-cap rock configuration, the basin peripheral igneous traps formed in the Indosinian-Early Yanshanian and Late Hercynian are favorable exploration objectives, and the volcanic rocks in the central basin are the future target of exploration.

Characteristics of Mesozoic-Cenozoic tectonic diagenesis in the Kuqa area of the Tarim Basin,China

Tectonic diagenesis is a common and important geological phenomenon. We can fully understand the diagenesis of compressional basins through studying tectonic diagenesis. In this paper, we presented the tectonic diagenetic characteristics in the Kuqa area of the Tarim Basin by integrated method of geological analysis and paleotectonic stress. The results showed that the Mesozoic-Cenozoic tectonic diagenesis affected sandstone compaction evolution mainly through physical mechanisms. It showed characteristics of abrupt change and nonthermal indicator (it means that sandstone compaction can not be explained by thermal diagenetic compaction alone because actual sandstone compaction was larger than thermal compaction), which were different from the thermal and fluid diagenesis. Compared with thermal diagenesis, tectonic diagenesis had a typical tectonic compaction in very short time, and many phases of tectonic deformation showed multiple abrupt changes of compaction. There are obvious differences between tectonic and thermal diagenetic compaction, leading to sandstone compaction being larger than the thermal compaction under the same thermal evolution stage in the areas where tectonic deformation happened. The stronger the tectonic deformation, the more obvious the difference. Tectonic process changed the stress distribution through changing the tectonic deformation styles, resulting in different tectonic diagenesis effects. Therefore, tectonic diagenesis of Mesozoic-Cenozoic in the Kuqa area can be divided into four types including rigid rock restraint, fault ramp, low angle fault slippage, and napping.

Nano-structure designs with conductive networks have been demonstrated as an efficient strategy to boost sodium storage properties for transition metal sulfides.Herein,an exquisite nanosheets self-assembled hierarchical flower-ball-like CuFeS_(2)embedded into the reduced graphene oxide(RGO)nanosheet matrix(F-CuFeS_(2)@RGO)is fabricated via a concise two-step solvothermal method.Such a well-designed architecture affords increased active reaction interfaces and enhanced mixed ionic/electronic conductivity.Meanwhile,the external RGO matrix can effectively alleviate the volume expansion and create a stable structure during long cycles.As a result,the composite material exhibits a high reversible capacity of 559 mAh·g^(-1)at 0.1 A·g^(-1),a superior rate capability of 455 mAh·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1)and excellent cyclic stability with 96%capacity retention after 4800 cycles at 5 A·g^(-1),among the best in the state-of-the-art transition metal sulfide anodes.Especially,F-CuFeS_(2)@RGO delivers outstanding low-temperature performances with a high capacity retention of 100%and 91%at-20 and-40℃,respectively,over 200 cycles.The proposed hierarchical structure fabrication paves a new direction in the design of high-performance electrodes for all-temperature energy storage applications.

The Lower to Middle Jurassic sedimentary succession is dominated by siliciclastics with a significant amount of black shales in the Indus Basin,Pakistan.Several outcrop samples have been studied using an integrated approach to interpret the conceptual depositional setting from carbon and oxygen isotopes(δ^(13)C&δ18O),organic geochemistry,and palynofacies with major and trace element analysis.For interpretation of trace element data,various single and elemental ratios have been used in this research to unlock the geological history of the studied strata.Ti/Al is 1.96 for high-potential source rock and 7.82 for non-potential source rock,and Cr(less than 1)indicates low clastic input with low oxygen for stratified and stagnant water.The ratios of V/(V+Cr),V/(V+Ni),V/Mo,V/Ni,(Cu+Mo)/Zn,Mo/Al,isotopic values ofδ^(13)C andδ18O and besides the V/Cr elemental ratio,all proxies indicate that there are oxygen-depleted anoxic conditions at high potentials,while in non-potential source rock,these ratios show oxic to sub-oxic settings.In addition to the trace element correlation with total organic carbon,the influx of organic matter is determined by the palynoafacies analysis,which indicates mixed terrestrial and marine organic influx in high-potential source rock and vice versa.Furthermore,the studies of palynofaceis DFPF A-D and SFPF A-B suggest that the depositional setting of black shale occurred in the anoxic proximal to distal shelf.The results suggest that the regional and local occurrence of black shale during the Lower to Middle Jurassic and its geological condition were addressed,and these play an important role in its depositional and paleooceanographic setting in the Eastern Tethys.

Numerical simulation of pore-scale flow in chemical flooding process

Chemical flooding is one of the effective technologies to increase oil recovery of petroleum reservoirs after water flooding.Above the scale of representative elementary volume(REV), phenomenological modeling and numerical simulations of chemical flooding have been reported in literatures,but the studies alike are rarely conducted at the pore-scale,at which the effects of physicochemical hydrodynamics are hardly resolved either by experimental observations or by traditional continuum-based simulations.In this paper,dissipative particle dynamics(DPD),one of mesoscopic fluid particle methods,is introduced to simulate the pore-scale flow in chemical flooding processes.The theoretical background,mathematical formulation and numerical approach of DPD are presented.The plane Poiseuille flow is used to illustrate the accuracy of the DPD simulation,and then the processes of polymer flooding through an oil-wet throat and a water-wet throat are studies, respectively.The selected parameters of those simulations are given in details.These preliminary results show the potential of this novel method for modeling the physicochemical hydrodynamics at the pore scale in the area of chemical enhanced oil recovery.

Carbon isotopic compositions of individual terpenoids in heavy oils from Karamay oilfield

The carbon isotopic compositions of individual terpenoids in the heavy oils from the Karamay oilfield were determined by using the method of enrichment of terpanes with molecular sieve 13X and GC-IRMS technique. The terpanes, selectively enriched from the biodegraded oils with molecular sieve 13X, can meet the demand of GO-IRMS analysis. The carbon isotopic compositions of the hopanoids (δ13C-31.7‰—-37.8‰) infer that their main source is probably non-methanotrophic bacteria,and that the depositional environment of source rocks is a strongly reductive, rapidly depositional, and closed-semi-closed saline lagoon.

Two novel Fe(Ⅱ) diimine complexes have been synthesized. In combination with MAO, they generate active catalytic systems that oligomerize ethylene with both high catalytic activity and high selectivity for a-olefins. The effects of substituents on the aryl ring, reaction temperatures and molar ratios of Al/Fe on catalytic activity and product distribution are studied.

Study on Process for Manufacturing Heavy Traffic Asphalt from Gudong Crude

The Gudong crude from Gudao oil-bearing region in the Shengli oilfield was used as the target for studying the process of manufacturing heavy traffic road asphalt. The heavy traffic road asphalt products can be made from Gudong crude through blending residuum from mild thermal conversion of vacuum resid with extract, blending the deoiled asphalt from VR propane deasphalting with vacuum resid and the extract, and blending of oxidizedhard asphalt originated from VR with the extract.
