OBJECTIVES:A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station for irrigated crops at Thasara,Anand Agricultural University,Anand,to study the dissipation and risk assessment ofβ-cyfluthrin and imidacloprid as combination product in/on *** AND METHODS:Solomon 300 OD comprising 9 per centβ-cyfluthrin and 21 per cent imidacloprid was foliar sprayed at the doses of 18+42g ***−1(standard dose)and 36+84g ***−1(double dose).Totally three sprays were made at an interval of 1 week starting from fruiting *** AND DISCUSSIONS:The residues ofβ-cyfluthrin estimated using gas chromatograph with electron capture detector(GC-ECD)showed an initial deposit of 0.16 and 0.27μg g−1 in standard and double doses,*** residues for corresponding doses persisted till 7th and 10th day after application and reached below determination level of 0.01μg g−1 on the 10th and 15th day,*** was estimated using high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)and showed initial deposits of 1.22 and 2.7μg g−1 in standard and double doses,*** levels reached below the determination level(0.01μg g−1)on the 15th day in green *** analysis of dissipation kinetics showed thatβ-cyfluthrin followed zero-order kinetics in standard dose with half-life of 7.27 *** double dose,the dissipation kinetics followed first-order kinetics with half-life of 9 *** followed first-order kinetics in both the doses with half-life of 6.7 and 7.7 ***:A pre-harvest interval(PHI)of 15 days is *** risk assessment calculated as hazard quotient was less than 1,rendering the use of combination product as safe-provided proper PHI is followed.

Quality of effluents from Hattar Industrial Estate

Of 6634 registered industries in Pakistan, 1228 are considered to be highly polluting. The major industries include textile, pharmaceutical, chemicals (organic and inorganic), food industries, ceramics, steel, oil mills and leather tanning which spread all over four provinces, with the larger number located in Sindh and Punjab, with smaller number in North Western Frontier Province (NWFP) and Baluchistan. Hattar Industrial Estate extending over 700 acres located in Haripur district of NWFP is a new industrial estate, which has been developed with proper planning for management of industrial effluents. The major industries located in Hattar are ghee industry, chemical (sulfuric acid, synthetic fiber) industry, textile industry and pharmaceuticals industry. These industries, although developed with proper planning are discharging their effluents in the nearby natural drains and ulti- mately collected in a big drain near Wah. The farmers in the vicinity are using these effluents for growing vegetables and cereal crops due to shortage of water. In view of this discussion, there is a dire need to determine if these effluents are hazardous for soil and plant growth. So, effluents from different industries, sewage and normal tap water samples were collected and analysed for pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total soluble salts (TSS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen, cations and anions and heavy metals. The effluents of ghee and textile industries are highly alkaline. EC and TSS loads of ghee and textile industries are also above the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS), Pakistan. All the effluents had residual sodium carbonates (RSCs), carbonates and bicarbonates in amounts that cannot be used for irrigation. Total toxic metals load in all the effluents is also above the limit i.e. 2.0 mg/L. Copper in effluents of textile and sewage, manganese in ghee industry effluents and iron contents in all the effluents were high

Weed growth, herbicide efficacy, and rice productivity in dry seeded paddy field under different wheat stubble management methods

To ascertain the influence of wheat stubble management options and chemical weed control methods on weed growth and productivity of dry direct-seeded fine rice, a two years' field study was undertaken at the Agronomic Research Farm, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan in 2013 and 2014. Different wheat stubble management methods, viz., incorporation, burning and retention were executed during seed-bed preparation. While, herbicide treatments comprised of a weed check, weed free, pendimethalin followed by tank mixture of fenoxaprop p-ethyl+ethoxysulfuron ethyl, and bispyribac sodium followed by tank mixture of fenoxaprop p-ethyl+ethoxysulfuron ethyl. Results revealed that weed control efficacy of both herbicide treatments ranged from 84 to 94%. Herbicide treatments significantly reduced weed density(88–90%) and dry weight(86–88%), while improved the rice growth attributes compared with weed check. Application of bispyribac sodium followed by tank mixture of fenoxaprop p-ethyl+ethoxysulfuron ethyl in stubble retention recorded 226 and 273% increase in kernel yield over weedy check in 2013 and 2014, respectively. In stubble incorporation, pendimethalin followed by tank mixture of fenoxaprop p-ethyl+ethoxysulfuron ethyl was more effective in increasing(256–293%) rice yields over weedy check. Among different treatment combinations, the maximum net benefits(1 397.49^(–1) 472.22 USD ha^(–1)), net returns(636–700 USD ha^(–1)), benefit cost ratio(1.77^(–1).83) and marginal rate of return(2 187–2 330%) were recorded with the application of bispyribac sodium followed by fenoxaprop p-ethyl+ethoxysulfuron ethyl in stubble retention. In crux, application of bispyribac sodium followed by tank mixture of fenoxaprop p-ethyl+ethoxysulfuron ethyl in stubble retention is efficient approach to control weeds, and get maximum rice productivity and net economic returns under dry seeded system.

Harvest residue Study of Fungicide Tebuconazole Ec Formulation in Groundnut and Paddy

A field trial was conducted under West Bengal condition during July 2009 to October 2009 to evaluate the harvest residue of Tebuconazole (25.9% EC) in paddy at two application rates (750 and 1500 mL ha–1). Another field trial was conducted during August 2009 to December 2009 to evaluate the harvest residue of the same molecule in groundnut. The quantitative analysis of the fungicide residue was performed using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/M S). The average recovery was found in between 86.33 to 91.87% for different substrates of groundnut. In case of paddy the average recovery was ranges in between 86.40 to 90.86% for different substrates. In all the cases, it was found that the fungicide residues were below the detection limit of the instrument (<0.01 ppm) irrespective of doses in different substrates of paddy and groundnut. Based on these findings, the use of Tebuconazole in paddy and ground-nut may be advocated for the control of diseases in paddy and groundnut without any residual toxicity problem.

Direct aminolysis of selenoester in aqueous media was investigated as a glycopeptide ligation *** strategy allows the peptide and glycopeptide ligation to proceed smoothly(even with hindered amino acids) without the need of cysteine residue, N-terminal thiol auxiliary or coupling additive, and to afford the corresponding amide products in excellent yields. No epimerization was observed during ligation reations. In this work, the selenoester of unprotected glycopeptide was readily prepared, and the direct aminolysis of glycopeptide selenoester was successfully applied to synthesize MUC1 mucin sequence efficiently.

pesticide residues in bayberry(Myrica rubra)and probabilistic risk assessment for consumers in Zhejiang,China

As pesticide residues in bayberry has raised serious concern from the public in China, a monitoring survey was carried out during 2013–2014 and 157 samples were analyzed in total. Twenty-three pesticides were detected among the 44 pesticides analyzed and at least one pesticide was detected in 63% of 99 samples. Whereas 45.6% of samples were found with two or more pesticide residues, and 23.6% of samples with four or more pesticide residues. Probabilistic risk assessments indicated that estimated daily intake（EDI） of cyhalothrin at the P97.5th percentile level is 1.11 times larger than the acceptable daily intake（ADI） for children, the estimated short-term intake（ESTI） at the P97.5th percentile level is 1.9 and 1.78 times larger than the acute reference dose（ARf D） for adult and children, respectively, indicating the potential risk concern from pyrethroids. EDI of the pesticides with anti-androgenic effects ranged from 0.15–2.46 of ADI, the probability of exposure exceeding the ADI was 7.1 and 31.1% for adults and children, respectively, the probability of exposure of pyrethroids exceeding the ADI was 3.8% for children. Exposures for other pesticides and groups were below 1.0. Because the co-occurrence of frequency of cyhalothrin and cypermethrin was 9.55%, the combinations of pesticides detected with anti-androgenic effects has not been found in the present monitoring, the results indicate that the pesticide residues in bayberry will not constitute serious public health risk, however, they are significant for the management of pesticide use on bayberry and dietary health risk in China.

laboratory simulated dissipation of metsulfuron methyl and chlorimuron ethyl in soils and their residual fate in rice, wheat and soybean at harvest

Two sulfonylurea herbicides, metsulfuron methyl （Ally 20 WP） and chlorimuron ethyl （Classic 25 WP） were evaluated for their dissipation bchaviour in alluvial, coastal saline and laterite soils under laboratory incubated condition at 60% water holding capacity of soils and 30 ℃ temperature was maintained. In field study herbicides were applied twice for the control of grasses, annual and perennials broad leaves weeds and sedges in rice, wheat and soybean to find out the residual fate of both the herbicides on different matrices of respective crops after harvest. Extraction and clean up methodologies for the herbicides were standardized and subsequently analyzed by HPLC. The study revealed that the half-lives of metsulfuron methyl and chlorimuron ethyl ranged from 10.75 to 13.94 d irrespective of soils and doses applied. Field trials with rice, wheat and soybean also revealed that these two herbicides could safely be recommended for application as no residues were detected in the harvest samples.

Rapid Screening of pesticide residues in Strawberry Based on HPLC-QTOF/MS SWATH Acquisition Mode

[Objectives]The paper was to establish a rapid screening method of pesticide residues in strawberry based on HPLC-QTOF/MS SWATH acquisition mode.[Methods]The strawberry sample was extracted with acetonitrile,purified with anhydrous magnesium sulfate,sodium chloride and primary secondary amine(PSA)powder,and then loaded on the *** full information spectrum was collected by positive ion mode and screened by comparing with the spectrum library,and 20 kinds of pesticide residues were quantitatively analyzed.[Results]The detection limits of 20 pesticide residues were 0.0002-0.0100 mg/kg,and they showed good linearity in the range of 0.0005-0.1000μg/mL(R 2≥0.995).The recoveries ranged from 62.8%to 106.3%.[Conclusions]This method is rapid,simple,sensitive and non-targeted,and can be used for rapid screening of multiple pesticide residues in strawberry.
