Background:The terminal branch orders of plant root systems are increasingly known as an ephemeral *** concept is crucial to recognize belowground ***,it is unknown if root modules still exist after they die?Methods:The decomposition patterns of the first five root orders were observed for 3 years using a branch-order classification,a litter-bag method and sequential sampling in a common subalpine tree species(Picea asperata)of southwestern ***:Two root modules were observed during the 3-year *** the first five branch orders,the first three order roots exhibited temporal patterns of mass loss,nutrients and stoichiometry distinct from their woody mother roots throughout the experimental *** study,for the first time,reported the decomposition pattern of each individual root order and found a similar decomposition dynamic among ephemeral root branches in a forest tree ***:Results from this study suggest that root modules may also exist after death,while more data are needed for *** findings may further advance our understanding of architecture-associated functional heterogeneity in the fine-root system and also improve our ability to predict belowground processes.

Aims Although soil environments exist extensive heterogeneity for many plants with a wide range of distribution,researches about effects of soil conditions on plants’tolerance and adaptation are particularly *** our study,the aims are to reveal physiological strategies of Populus deltoides against drought stress under different soil conditions and to select the most suitable soil type for *** *** Under controlled conditions,we used *** as a model species to detect differences in gas exchange rate,antioxidative capacity,nitrogen metabolism and biomass accumulation and partitioning in response to drought stress under three mineral soil types with distinct physicochemical characters,*** soil(RS),yellow soil(YS)and yellow-brown soil(BS).Important Findings Exposure to 25%of field water holding capacity in soil for 3 months had significantly decreased biomass of all organs,photosynthetic rate,enzyme activities related to N assimilation,but increased H2O2,malondialdehyde and content of both NO3−and NH4+,when *** was planted in both RS and *** contrast,under BS,there are slightly negative effects exerted by water deficit on total biomass,gas exchange rate,activities of enzymes related to nitrogen metabolism and membrane damage caused by reactive oxygen species,which can be associated with a consistent increase in superoxide dismutase,peroxidase and catalase,and a higher ratio of root mass to shoot *** is concluded that,such higher capacity in tolerance and adaptation against drought stress under BS relative to both RS and YS could be accounted for more sufficient nutrient provision in soil parental materials and better soil aeration conditions which play a vital role in plant acclimation to water *** study also revealed that,distribution areas of BS might be preferable for cultivation of ***,when compared with those of RS and YS.

Chinese fir[Cunninghamia lanceolata(Lamb.)Hook.]has a large native distribution range in southern ***,we tested differences in productivity of Chinese fir plantations in different climatic regions and screened the main environmental factors affecting site productivity in each *** of a Chinese fir site index with climatic factors and the soil physiochemical properties of five soil layers were examined in a long-term positioning observation trial comprising a total of 45 permanent plots in Fujian(eastern region in the middle subtropics),Guangxi(south subtropics)and Sichuan(central region in the middle subtropics)in southern *** mixed effects models were developed to predict the site index for Chinese fir,which was found to vary significantly among different climatic *** P,total N,bulk density and total K were dominant predictors of site index in three climatic *** regional linear mixed models built using these predictors in the three climatic regions fit well(R~2=0.86–0.97).For the whole study area,the available P in the 0–20-cm soil layer and total N in the 80–100-cm soil layer were the most indicative soil *** was the most important climatic variable influencing the site *** model evaluation results showed that the fitting performance and prediction accuracy of the global site index model using the climatic region as the dummy variable and random parameters and the most important soil factors of the three climatic regions as predictors was higher than that of global site index model using the climatic variable and the most indicative soil variables of the whole study *** results will help with further evaluation of site quality of Chinese fir plantations and the selection of its appropriate sites in southern China as the climatic changes.

Tree mortality models play an important role in predicting tree growth and yield,but existing mortality models for Larix gmelinii ***-rupprechtii,an important species used for regeneration and afforestation in northern China,have overlooked potential regional influences on tree *** study used data acquired from 102 temporary sample plots(TSPs)in natural stands of Prince Rupprecht larch in the state-owned Guandi Mountain Forest(n=67)and state-owned Boqiang Forest(n=35)in northern *** model stand-level tree mortality,we compared seven model forms of county *** continuous(dominant height,plot mean diameter,and basal area per hectare)and one dummy variable with two levels(region)were used as fixed effects *** morality variations caused by forest blocks were accounted for using forest blocks as a random effect in selected *** showed that tree mortality significantly positively correlated with stand basal area and dominant height,but negatively correlated with stand mean *** both the dummy variables and random effects into the tree mortality models significantly increased the fitting improvements,and Hurdle Poisson mixed-effects model showed the most attractive fit statistics(largest R^(2)and smallest RMSE)when employing leave-one-out *** mixed-effects dummy variable models will be useful for accurately predicting Larix tree mortality in different regions.

Named Entity Recognition(NER)stands as a fundamental task within the field of biomedical text mining,aiming to extract specific types of entities such as genes,proteins,and diseases from complex biomedical texts and categorize them into predefined entity *** process can provide basic support for the automatic construction of knowledge *** contrast to general texts,biomedical texts frequently contain numerous nested entities and local dependencies among these entities,presenting significant challenges to prevailing NER *** address these issues,we propose a novel Chinese nested biomedical NER model based on RoBERTa and Global Pointer(RoBGP).Our model initially utilizes the RoBERTa-wwm-ext-large pretrained language model to dynamically generate word-level initial *** then incorporates a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory network for capturing bidirectional semantic information,effectively addressing the issue of long-distance ***,the Global Pointer model is employed to comprehensively recognize all nested entities in the *** conduct extensive experiments on the Chinese medical dataset CMeEE and the results demonstrate the superior performance of RoBGP over several baseline *** research confirms the effectiveness of RoBGP in Chinese biomedical NER,providing reliable technical support for biomedical information extraction and knowledge base construction.
