Behavior and outcomes of 141 acquired lacrimal sac mucoceles treated via endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy

Diabetic wound healing is often complicated due to bacterial infections that intensify inflammation. Employing hydrogel dressings with inherent antibacterial properties can significantly reduce reliance on antibiotics for treating infected wounds in diabetics. Traditional hydrogels typically rely on the infiltration of bacteria into their porous structure to manifest antibacterial effects. However, this infiltration process is not only prolonged but can also exacerbate inflammation, further delaying the healing of the ***, promptly capturing and eliminating bacteria is crucial for enhancing the antibacterial efficiency of the hydrogel. In this context, we present a multifunctional hydrogel dressing, termed SIP, designed to tackle drug-resistant bacterial infections in diabetic wounds. This dressing integrates ionic liquid functional groups into a sericin-based matrix: phenylboronic acid for the immobilization of bacteria and imidazole for their subsequent annihilation. Expectedly, the SIP system demonstrates potent antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, verified through in vitro and in vivo experiments. As a result, SIP emerges as a promising candidate in the realm of hydrogel dressings with innate antibacterial properties, showcasing considerable potential for addressing diabetic wounds plagued by drug-resistant bacterial infections.

Toxic effects in terms of mitochondria and hereditary substances have been characterized in vitro for individual rare earth elements,while,the joint effects of mixed elements exposure in the population remain *** on the Occupational Chromate Exposure Dynamic Cohort of China,this study investigated the relationship between 15 blood rare earth elements(cerium,dysprosium,erbium,europium,gadolinium,holmium,lanthanum,lutetium,neodymium,praseodymium,samarium,terbium,thulium,yttrium,and ytterbium)and mitochondrial DNA copy number(MtDNACN)as well as peripheral blood lymphocyte micronucleus frequency(MNF).The elastic net was used to select elements highly correlated with effect indicators,whose dose-response relationships were further illustrated by restricted cubic *** kernel regressionwas employed to explore the combined effects of elements and the contributions of single *** results showed that most rare earth elementswere positively correlatedwith effect indicators,with yttrium showing the strongest association(β(95%CI):0.139(0.1089–0.189)for MtDNACN,0.937(0.345–1.684)for MNF).In the mixed exposure model,with the exposure level fixed at the 50th percentile as the reference,the effect estimates on MtDNACN and MNF increased by 0.228 and 0.598 units,respectively,at the 75th *** single effect analysis implied that yttrium,lanthanum and terbium contributed the most to the elevation of MtDNACN,while yttrium posed the highest risk for genetic damage,accordingly,we provided recommendations to prioritize these elements of *** addition,we observed a chief mediating effect of MtDNACN on the elevation of MNF caused by lanthanum,whereas further mechanistic exploration is required to confirm this finding.

Topographic factors associated with anterior chamber angle narrowing in patients with keratoconus

AIM:To identify topographic determinants of the anterior chamber angle(ACA)in patients with keratoconus(KCN).METHODS:Four hundred and ten eyes of 294 patients with KCN were recruited for this ***,complete ocular examinations were performed for all patients,including visual acuity measurement,refraction,and slit-lamp ***,all participants underwent corneal imaging by the Oculus Pentacam ***:The mean age of the participants was 32.40±8.52y(15-60y)and 69.5%of them were *** mean ACA was 38.47°±5.75°(range:14.40°to 56.50°)in the whole sample,38.24°±6.00°in males,and 38.98°±5.11°in females(P=0.447).The mean ACA was significantly different among different groups of cone morphology,as patients with nipple cones showed the lowest mean ***,there were statistically significant differences in the mean ACA among different groups of cone locations,with patients having central cones exhibiting the lowest mean ACA(P<0.001).Anterior and posterior Q values were significantly,directly correlated with ACA(anterior Q:r=0.122,P=0.014,posterior Q:r=0.192,P<0.001).CONCLUSION:This study provides critical insights into the risk factors for ACA narrowing in KCN patients,which is essential for planning intraocular *** with nipple and central cones exhibited the most significant ACA ***,more negative Q-values are associated with increased ACA narrowing,highlighting the need for targeted diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Diffuse-type tenosynovial giant cell tumor(dTGCT) is a destructive but rare benign proliferative synovial neoplasm. Although surgery is currently the main treatment modality for dTGCT, the recurrence risk is up to 50%. Therefore, there is a great need for effective drugs against dTGCT with minor side effects. The Janus kinase(JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription(STAT) signaling plays a central role in rheumatoid arthritis(RA), a disease with similar characteristics as dTGCT, but its function in dTGCT remains *** fibroblast-like synoviocytes(FLS) and macrophages were isolated from 10 synovial tissue samples from dTGCT patients for the screening and validation of the five clinically approved JAK inhibitors to treat RA against dTGCT. Cell viability, cell death, inflammation and the activity of the JAK family members of cultured dTGCT FLS(both 2-D and 3-D) and macrophages were investigated for the efficacy of the JAK inhibitors. Here, we found that similar to RA, JAK/STAT signaling was markedly activated in the dTGCT synovium. Of the 5 JAK inhibitors, peficitinib was shown to have the most potency in addressing some of the pathological responses of dTGCT FLS and *** potency of peficitinib was much higher than pexidartinib, which is the only FDA-approved drug for dTGCT. Mechanistically, peficitinib inhibited tyrosine kinase 2(TYK2), a JAK family member necessary for the pathological progression of dTGCT FLS and macrophages. In summary, we not only revealed JAK/STAT(especially TYK2) signaling as the major mechanism underlying dTGCT, but also identified peficitinib as a promising drug against dTGCT.

Prophylactic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer after curative surgery:Final results of a phase Ⅱ trial

Objective: The trial was designed to evaluate the efficacy of prophylactic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC) with cisplatin for patients with locally advanced gastric cancer(LAGC).Methods: Between March 2015 and November 2016, a phase II clinical trial was performed. Fifty consecutive patients with LAGC were randomly assigned to two groups: the experimental group(radical gastrectomy + HIPEC with cisplatin + adjuvant chemotherapy) and the control group(radical gastrectomy + adjuvant chemotherapy).Survival rates were closely ***: The 5-year overall survival(OS) rate of all patients was 80.0%. The 5-year OS rate in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group, at 75.8% and 88.2%, respectively, with no statistical *** addition, 5-year recurrence-free survival(RFS) rates of patients who underwent HIPEC or not were also 75.8%and 88.2%, respectively. In the multivariate analysis, only pT stage [risk ratio(RR)=7.079, P=0.018] was significantly associated with prognosis. The most common recurrence pattern was peritoneal recurrence in both groups. The experimental group had a lower incidence of peritoneal recurrence than the control group with no statistical ***: This trial clearly revealed that prophylactic HIPEC with cisplatin neither decrease the risk of peritoneal recurrence nor improve the prognosis of patients with LAGC. Thus, HIPEC with cisplatin is not recommended as a prophylactic treatment for peritoneal recurrence of LAGC after radical gastrectomy.

BACKGROUND Stoma creation is a common procedure in colorectal cancer surgery,however,stoma-related complications remain a significant *** To investigate the incidence,types,and risk factors of stoma-related complications in colorectal cancer patients who underwent stoma *** Patients with stoma was prospectively recorded in the established stoma *** was collected from this stoma management system from November 2021 through May *** rates of stoma-related complications were assessed,and potential risk factors were analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression *** A total of 734 patients were included in the *** results showed that 12.3%of patients experienced stoma-related complications,with mucocutaneous separation,edema,and skin excoriation being the most common *** majority(90%)of complications were classified as grade 2 according to the Clavien-Dindo *** factors,such as blood loss volume greater than 500 mL and open surgery,were significantly associated with stoma ***,stoma features like location,shape,color,height,and edema were important factors in the association with *** mass index over 30 kg/m²was also found to be a significant risk *** These findings highlight the need for a holistic approach to preventing and managing stoma complications,considering both patient-related and surgical factors.

Intratumoral injection of two dosage forms of paclitaxel nanoparticles combined with photothermal therapy for breast cancer

Objective:In order to enhance the efficacy of anti-breast cancer,paclitaxel nanoparticles（PTX NPs） and polypyrrole nanoparticles（PPy NPs） were combined with photothermal therapy and *** the same time,the two dosage forms of PTX NPs and PTX NPs gel were ***:PTX NPs were prepared by self-assembly method,and then the cytotoxicity in vitro was investigated by Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium（MTT） and other methods,and the efficacy and side effects in vivo were further ***:The average hydrated diameter,PDI and electric potential of PTX NPs were（210.20±1.57） nm,（0.081±0.003） mV and（15.80±0.35） mV,*** results showed that the IC50value of PTX NPs on 4 T1 cells was 0.490 μg/mL,while that of PTX injection was 1.737 μg/*** cell inhibitory effect of PTX NPs was about 3.5 times higher than that of PTX *** tumor inhibition rates of PTX NPs and gel were 48.64% and 56.79%,*** with local photothermal stimulation,the tumor inhibition rate of the PTX NPs reached 91.05%,surpassing that of the gel under the same conditions（48.98%）,moreover,the organ index and H&E staining results of PTX NPs showed a decrease in ***:This combination therapy can significantly enhance the effect of anti-breast cancer,and the synergistic effect of chemotherapy and light and heat provides a feasible and effective strategy for the treatment of tumor.
