A production planning system is designed for the whole steelmaking process, which includes desulfurization, vanadium extraction, steelmaking and co.tinuous casting processes of panzhihua iron and steel co.poration. The system is co.posed of modeling module, data interface module, data analysis module, static planning module, re-planning module, plan evaluation module, plan simulation module and human-co.puter interaction module. The system is co.nected with the L3 system of steel plant by using the data interface module, which can receive the real time scheduling information to make the static plan and re-plan under production disturbances. The simulation and plan evaluation function of the system can assist decision-maker to check and modify the production plan. The simulation experiments with real process data show that the system can make a feasible, executable, and effective production plan, and deal with primary random disturbances during production process timely.

Inclusion has an important effect on quality of high speed rail steel. In co.sideration of the lower acceptance percentage of the inclusion and its co.straint against the requirement for large scale production of 350 km/h high speed rail steel in panzhihua iron and steel （group） co.the technology of nonmetallic inclusion co.trol for 350 km/h high speed rail steel was studied. An optimized model of the argon-blowing in ladle furnace （LF）,the co.trol of the co.ponents of the ladle slag,and the technique of calcium treatment for the molten steel was brought forward. Using the researched technology,the removal ratio of the inclusion was increased and the co.ponents,distribution,and shape of the inclusion in the rail steel were changed,which resulted in a reduction in the average total oxygen co.tent to 10.17×10^-6 and an increase in the co.prehensive acceptance percentage of the nonmetallic inclusion from 48.21% to 98.1%. Test has shown that this metallurgical technology can meet the requirement for large scale production of 350 km/h high speed steel in panzhihua iron and steel （group） co.

As to the co.tinuous casting process of low carbon microalloyed steel, subsurface microstructure evolution plays an important role in the slab surface cracking. In order to study the effect of the slab subsurface microstructure evolution on the transverse cracking, three different seco.dary co.ling patterns （i. e. , mild co.ling, strong co.ling and co.trolled co.ling） were performed in the co.responding slab curved co.tinuous caster. Based on the metallo- graphic results, three transformation regions were found to be formed with the evolution of microstructures at different depths in the slab subsurface. The three regions are strong co.ling transformation （SCT） region, double phase transformation （DPT） region and mild co.ling transformation （MCT） region, respectively. Meanwhile, it was also found that the crack index used for evaluating slab surface cracking susceptibility was decreased when the range of the DPT region was increased. This can be explained by the fact that the double phase transformation （austenite-ferrite-austenite） occurred resulting from thermal cycling in DPT region, which resulted in promoting the refinement of prior austenite grains and inhibiting the precipitation of film-like ferrite and chain-like precipitates. Under the co.- trolled co.ling pattern, the widely-distributed DPT region was formed in the range of 3.5--8.0 mm to the slab surface. And co.pared with other co.ling patterns, the cracking susceptibility is lowest with a crack index of 0.4.

Understandings of the effect of hot deformation parameters close to the practical production line on grain refinement are crucial for enhancing both the strength and toughness of future rail *** this work,the austenite dynamic recrystallization(DRX)behaviors of a eutectoid pearlite rail steel were studied using a thermo-mechanical simulator with hot deformation parameters frequently employed in rail production *** single-pass hot deformation results reveal that the prior austenite grain sizes(PAGSs)for samples with different deformation reductions decrease initially with an increase in deformation ***,once the deformation temperature is beyond a certain threshold,the PAGSs start to *** can be attributed to the rise in DRX volume fraction and the increase of DRX grain with deformation temperature,***-pass hot deformation results show that the accumulated strain generated in the first and seco.d deformation passes can increase the extent of *** the case of co.plete DRX,PAGS is predominantly determined by the deformation temperature of the final *** suggests a strategic approach during industrial production where part of the deformation reduction in low temperature range can be shifted to the medium temperature range to release rolling mill loads.

Thickness deviation of hot strip rolling needs to be strictly co.trolled in the co.puter system. An adaptive threading technique was researched, in which the measured data from threaded stands were used to predict thickness and material hardness errors, to modify the setup for the remaining unthreaded stands. After the adaptive threading model was used online on the hot strip mill of the panzhihua iron and steel group co.Ltd, the thickness deviation was decreased obviously. The hit rate of thickness co.trol of different steel grades increases.

3D thermo-meehanical co.pled simulation of whole rolling process for 60 kg/m heavy rail was acco.plished by FEM method. The finite element model, physical parameters of U75V and parameter setting of simulation were introduced in detail. The whole rolling process of 60 kg/m heavy rail was divided into 27 time cells to simulate respectively, and the model rebuilding and temperature inheritance method in intermediate pass were proceeded. Then, based on simulation results, the workpiece deformation result, metal flow, stress and strain of 60 kg/m heavy rail for typical passes were obtained. The temperature variation curves of whole rolling process for section key points of 60 kg/m heavy rail were plotted, and the temperature falling law of whole rolling process for 60 kg/m heavy rail was studied. In addition, temperature distribution of 60 kg/m heavy rail after whole rolling process was analyzed, and the results showed that temperature was highest at center of rail head and lowest at fringe of rail base. Moreover, the simulation results and measured results of rolling force for 60 kg/m heavy rail were co.pared, and the regularity was in good agreement.

Dynamic Soft Reduction for co.tinuously Cast Rail Bloom

Center porosity and centerline segregation in co.tinuously cast bloom can be minimized by the well-known method of dynamic soft reduction. Metallurgical results of soft reduction previously employed in co.tinuous bloom casting for heavy rail steel in panzhihua iron and steel group were not fully achieved because of the improper soft reduction process. Therefore, experiments for optimizing the process parameters of soft reduction for bloom were carried out. The results show that the proportion of the center porosity, which is less than 1.0, increases from 28.41% to 99.81%, while the proportion of the centerline segregation class increases from 40.91% to 100%, and the proportion of the central cavity increases from 92.05% to 100%, whereas the center carbon segregation index decreases from 1.17 to 1.05. The internal quality and the mechanical performance of the rails produced from co.tinuously cast blooms meet the requirement of high-speed tracks of 350 km/h.

Flotation Separation on Rare Earth Minerals and Gangues

The flotation process of native rare earth minerals such as bastnasite, monazite, mixed minerals of bastnasite and monazite, using the new effective co.lector Dh was studied, respectively, and the flotation properties were described. The good qualities of the new co.lector Dh were revealed through co.paring with other co.lector of rare earth minerals. The test results of different ore samples showed that at moderate pulp pH (8.5～9.5), rare earth minerals co.ld be effectively separated from barium, calcium and silico. bearing intergrowth minerals (barite, calcite and silicate minerals) and high quality rare earth co.centrates co.ld be obtained successfully by the new co.lector Dh, acid silica gel, turpentine and reagents fitting together rationally. In order to determine optimum technical co.ditions, the effect of pulp pH, pulp temperature, pulp density and the effect of dosage of reagents (Dh and acid silica gel) on the flotation were investigated in the test. Simultaneously, the mechanism of the flotation of rare earth minerals from intergrowth minerals was explored. The infrared spectra for Dh and rare earth cation by analysis in theory showed that Dh formed chelate co.plex with rare earth cation and were adsorbed on the surfaces of rare earth minerals. The mechanism of the intergrowth minerals depressed by acid silica gel can be explained as gummy co.loid hydrolyzed from acid silica gel which were selectively absorbed on the gangue minerals, making them hydrophilic and depressed, with pulp pH value of alkalescent.
