A new species of Atelopus(Amphibia:Bufonidae)from eastern panama

A new species of the genus Atelopus,Atelopus fronterizo ***.,from eastern panama is described herein based on molecular,morphological,and bioacoustic *** new species can be distinguished from its congeners occurring in the region by a combination of the following characters:(1)phalangeal reduction in thumb;(2)SVL(females only)(35.1-50.1;n=13),HW/SVL(0.23-0.34;n=59),EYND/HW(0.27-0.39;n=60),TIBL/SVL(0.41-0.56;n=58),and HAL/SVL(0.22-0.28;n=49);(3)dorsal color pattern with green or yellow background and extensive dark olive blotches forming transversal bands or mottling;(4)advertisement call duration 176-235 ms with 19-34 pulses,average pulse rate 131.69 pulses/s,and dominant frequency 2422.50-2606.50 *** new species is nested within the Central American clade of *** minimum Kimura‐2‐parameter(K2P)genetic divergence between Atelopus fronterizo *** its most phylogenetically similar congeners(*** and ***)is>2.6%for 16S and>4.9%for COI(Table 1).The phylogenetic relationship is strongly supported by ultrafast bootstrap values for the maximum-likelihood trees of both genetic markers(16S,96;COI,100,Figure 1A).Bayesian analysis of the concatenated sequences resulted in a tree with similar topology and high posterior probability support(0.99;Supplementary Figure S1).In addition,haplotype networks inferred from COI and 16S(Supplementary Figure S2)showed a well-separated clade containing the new species(two for COI,four for 16S).

A set of 15 combinations of microphysics and cumulus parameterizations for the WRF numerical model were tested in the forecast of a rain event on January 16 2018 over panama. GPM satellite, upper air soundings and ground weather stations were used to evaluate the performance of each configuration. Different metrics were used to obtain the configurations that produced the best forecasts. The analysis showed a strong fluctuation of the diurnal precipitation cycle from one region to another. From the set of tests carried, BMJ with Morrison performed slightly above the other combinations in representing well the diurnal cycle for some domain areas, followed by Thom-Gr, WSM6-BMJ and WSM6-KF. While the experiments had a better performance forecasting over sea, they were not able to match the highest values of total precipitation. Regarding spatial rain distribution, all BMJ cumulus combinations showed the best skills mainly over the area comprising the panama Canal while the others tended to overestimate the rain. Finally, most BMJ experiments showed the highest correlation factor and performed quite well representing the vertical profiles of relative humidity, temperature and wind.

Evaluating whether hybrid zones are stable or mobile can provide novelinsights for evolution and conservation biology. Butterflies exhibit high sensitivity to envi-ronmental changes and represent an important model system for the study of hybrid zoneorigins and maintenance. Here, we review the literature exploring butterfly hybrid zones,with a special focus on their spatiotemporal dynamics and the potential mechanisms thatcould lead to their movement or stability. We then compare different lines of evidenceused to investigate hybrid zone dynamics and discuss the strengths and weaknesses ofeach approach. Our goal with this review is to reveal general conditions associated withthe stability or mobility of butterfly hybrid zones by synthesizing evidence obtained us-ing different types of data sampled across multiple regions and spatial scales. Finally, wediscuss spatiotemporal dynamics in the context of a speciation/divergence continuum, therelevance of hybrid zones for conservation biology, and recommend key topics for futureinvestigation.

In 2016,I published a bird song key to the Pipeline Road area in and adjacent to Soberanía National Park,panama[1].This key is,to my knowledge,the largest bird song key in the *** the key was published,Rufous-breasted Wren(Pheugopedius rutilus;Figure 1)and Rufous-and-white Wren(Thryophilus rufalbus;Figure 2)have moved into the *** addendum adds three songs of Rufous-breasted Wren and three songs Rufous-and-white Wren to the key,thereby increasing the key’s song total to 327 and its species total to 218.

The opening of the panama Canal in 1913 transformed ocean-shipping and the availability of internationally-traded goods, shortened travel time between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, increased ship tonnage, and sparked the growth of port authorities on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the panama Canal. Historically, the United States was number one and China was number two in tons of cargo that pass through the canal annually in the high stakes game of import and export markets. Prior to the construction of the panama Canal, the most efficient way to cross the 82-kilometer isthmus, between the Port of panama City on the Pacific and the Port of Colon on the Atlantic, was by mule trails through tropical forests and river transportation. Since the construction of the panama Canal through tropical forests in the 1910s, pesticides have been essential for managing mosquitoes as well as controlling wetland vegetation that blocked lakes, rivers and the canal. The primary objective of this research study is to document the long-term environmental impacts of pesticide and herbicide use in the Panama Canal Zone. Many of these chemicals, including 2, 4,-D, 2, 4, 5-T and DDT, have a long half-life under water and some, like arsenic (As), have no half-life. Pesticides and chemicals flowed into Lake Gatun via surface runoff either in solution or attached to the sediment during the rainy season. The by-product 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is an unanticipated contaminant created during the manufacture of the herbicide 2,4,5-T. TCDD can bio-accumulate in fish and birds and enter into the human food supply. The extent of the current chemical and pesticide contamination on former U.S. military base grounds and in Lake Gatun is unknown. Systematic soil sampling of current and former military bases, chemical disposal sites and Lake Gatun or the panama Canal sediments is needed to determine if mitigation is necessary.

Focusing on“from inside out”means understanding that the driving force behind a successful service promotion campaign lies in a deep connection with the internal team,turning it into the engine that propels a positive brand *** University of panama faces challenges in the effective implementation of strategies involving its internal staff,impacting the coherence and strength of its promotional *** research aimed to determine internal marketing strategies as an engine for service promotion at the Central Campus and *** applied study was descriptive,non-experimental field research,and *** sample consisted of 80 individuals using a quota sampling method to measure and quantify the expression of a construct or variable that is not directly observable.A selfadministered questionnaire was used to collect information,measuring variables in their various *** validity of the questionnaire was ensured through the evaluation of three experts,and the reliability of the Likert-type instrument was assessed using Cronbach’s α coefficient,which was found to be very high(0.918).The results led to the conclusion that establishing internal marketing strategies is necessary for the transformation and innovation process in the university through service promotion.

The productivity of an institution is achieved,in large part,by creating a harmonious environment that reflects the satisfaction,empowerment,and collaborative spirit of each *** this perspective,management will consider upgrades using all tactics that allow for the achievement of these goals,including direct effort and the involvement of all *** objective of this study was to examine the relationship between work motivation and the productivity of workers in the communal board of the Barrio Sur corregimiento in the province of Coló*** the questionnaire as an instrument,as well as the descriptive method,allowed for the report and evaluation of the characteristics of the workers,indicating interpersonal deficits and distancing in the motivations that drive administrative *** incorporating different approaches previously analyzed and developed by different authors familiar with the subject,it was possible to achieve substantial results,such as the need to implement administrative strategies that harmoniously incorporate workers,showing that,despite motivation problems,the work environment where one works is very important in the performance of their *** to motivate the direct participation of the workers selected as part of the sample,who showed full satisfaction with the results framed within the framework of individual improvement and,above all,the commitment to the institution to improve its work.
