Fluid-rock interaction experiments with andesite at 100℃ for potential carbon storage in geothermal reservoirs

Geothermal energy extraction often results in the release of naturally occurring carbon dioxide(CO_(2))as a *** on carbon storage using volcanic rock types other than basalt under both acidic and elevated temperature conditions has been limited so *** study uses batch reactor experiments at100℃ to investigate the dissolution of andesite rock samples obtained from an active geothermal reservoir in Sumatra(Indonesia).The samples are subjected to reactions with neutral-pH fluids and acidic fluids,mimicking the geochemical responses upon reinjection of geothermal fluids,either without or with dissolved acidic gases,*** elemental analysis reveals the release of Ca^(2+)ions into the fluids through the dissolution of *** overall dissolution rate of the rock samples is 2.4×10^(–11)to 4.2×10^(–11)mol/(m^(2)·s),based on the Si release during the initial 7 h of the *** dissolution rates are about two orders of magnitude lower than those reported for basaltic rocks under similar reaction *** study offers valuable insights into the potential utilization of andesite reservoirs for effective CO_(2)storage via mineralization.

Analytical Study of Ground Painting Layers and Conservation Processes of an Egyptian Painted Coffin

The aim of this study is to examine and present the results of the scientific examinations carried out on the ground layers with paint samples collected from the decorated surfaces of the wooden coffin dated back to the late period from Saqqara excavation that belonged to the Ministry of Antiquities. Many analytical methods were performed as optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis （ESEM-EDX）, X-ray diffraction analysis as well as fourier transform infrared spectroscopy have been used to both characterise the inorganic composition and the binding media used. The analytical results showed that the materials composition and technique used to plaster applied on the wooden surface are in good agreement with the information gathered through the historical survey. The coffin was in bad and poor condition. There was cracking on the surface and in the structure, serious flaking, cupping of some pigments and serious damage in both the wooden support and gesso layer. Conservation treatment processes carried out included consolidation of lifting areas of the paint film, disturbing restoration materials, repair of cracks in the wooden support and a dry surface cleaning of the pigments.

One-pot molten salt method for constructing CdS/C_(3)N_(4) nanojunctions with highly enhanced photocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution reaction

The construction of heterojunction photocatalysts for efficiently utilizing solar energy has attracted considerable attention to solve the energy crisis and reduce environmental *** this study,we use the energy released from an easily-occurred exothermic chemical reaction to serve as the drive force to trigger the formation of Cd S and C_(3)N_(4) nanocomposites which are successfully fabricated with cadmium nitrate and thiourea without addition of any solvents and protection of inert gas at initial temperature,a little higher than the melting point of *** as-prepared Cd S/C_(3)N_(4) materials exhibit high efficiency for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)with the HER rate as high as 15,866μmol/(g·hr)under visible light irradiation(λ>420 nm),which is 89 and 9 times those of pristine C_(3)N_(4) and Cd S,***,the apparent quantum efficiency(AQE)of Cd S/C_(3)N_(4)–1:2–200–2(Cd S/C_(3)N_(4)–1:2–200–2 means the ratio of Cd to S is 1:2 and the reaction temperature is set at 200℃ for two hours)reaches 3.25%atλ=420±15 *** irradiated for more than 24 hr,the HER efficiencies of Cd S/C_(3)N_(4) do not exhibit any *** DFT calculation suggests that the charge difference causes an internal electric field from C_(3)N_(4) pointing to Cd S,which can more effectively promote the transfer of photogenerated electrons from Cd S to C_(3)N_(4).Therefore,most HER should occur on C_(3)N_(4) surface where photogenerated electrons accumulate,which largely protects Cd S from photo-corrosion.

The core reactions for fuel cells,rechargeable metal-air batteries,and hydrogen fuel production are the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR),oxygen evolution reaction(OER),and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),which are heavily dependent on the efficiency of *** attempts have previously been devoted in non-noble electrocatalysts born out of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)for ORR,OER,and HER applications,due to the following advantageous reasons:(i)The significant porosity eases the electrolyte diffusion;(ii)the supreme catalyst-electrolyte contact area enhances the diffusion efficiency;and(iii)the electronic conductivity can be extensively increased owing to the unique construction block subunits for MOFs-derived ***,the recent progress of MOFs-derived electrocatalysts including synthesis protocols,design engineering,DFT calculations roles,and energy applications is discussed and *** can be concluded that the elevated ORR,OER,and HER performances are attributed to an advantageously well-designed high-porosity structure,significant surface area,and plentiful active ***,the perspectives of MOF-derived electrocatalysts for the ORR,OER,and HER are presented.

Activated carbon prepared from waste tire pyrolysis carbon black via CO_(2)/KOH activation used as supercapacitor electrode

As the quantity of waste tires increases,more pyrolysis carbon black(CBp),a type of low value-added carbon black,is being ***,the application of CBp has been ***,it is necessary to identify and expand applications of *** work focuses on the preparation of activated carbon(AC)from CBp using the physicochemical activation of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))and potassium hydroxide(KOH).Thereafter,AC is applied to the electrode of the electrical double-layer capacitor(EDLC).The AC prepared by CO_(2)/KOH activation exhibited a hierarchical pore *** specific surface area increased from 415 to 733 m^(2)g^(−1),and in combination with low ash content of 1.51%,ensured abundant ion diffusion channels and active sites to store *** EDLC comprising the AC(AC-2)electrode prepared by excitation of CO_(2)(300 sccm)and KOH had a reasonable gravimetric specific capacitance of 192 F g^(−1)at 0.5 A g^(−1),and exhibited a good rate capability of 73%at 50 A g^(−1)in a three-electrode ***,the EDLC device comprising the AC-2 electrode delivered excellent cycling stability(capacitance retention of 106%after 10000 cycles at 2 A g^(−1)in a two-electrode system).Furthermore,a symmetric supercapacitor based on an AC electrode that exhibits a supreme energy density of 4.7 Wh kg^(−1)and a maximum power density of 6362.6 W kg^(−1)is demonstrated.
