Study of deep transportation and plugging performance of deformable gel particles in porous media

Deformable gel particles(DGPs) possess the capability of deep profile control and flooding. However, the deep migration behavior and plugging mechanism along their path remain unclear. Breakage, an inevitable phenomenon during particle migration, significantly impacts the deep plugging effect. Due to the complexity of the process, few studies have been conducted on this subject. In this paper, we conducted DGP flow experiments using a physical model of a multi-point sandpack under various injection rates and particle sizes. Particle size and concentration tests were performed at each measurement point to investigate the transportation behavior of particles in the deep part of the reservoir. The residual resistance coefficient and concentration changes along the porous media were combined to analyze the plugging performance of DGPs. Furthermore, the particle breakage along their path was revealed by analyzing the changes in particle size along the way. A mathematical model of breakage and concentration changes along the path was established. The results showed that the passage after breakage is a significant migration behavior of particles in porous media. The particles were reduced to less than half of their initial size at the front of the porous media. Breakage is an essential reason for the continuous decreases in particle concentration, size, and residual resistance coefficient. However, the particles can remain in porous media after breakage and play a significant role in deep plugging. Higher injection rates or larger particle sizes resulted in faster breakage along the injection direction, higher degrees of breakage, and faster decreases in residual resistance coefficient along the path. These conditions also led to a weaker deep plugging ability. Smaller particles were more evenly retained along the path, but more particles flowed out of the porous media, resulting in a poor deep plugging effect. Flexible sensors have been widely studied for use in motion monitoring,human‒machine interactions(HMIs),personalized medicine,and soft intelligent ***,their practical application is limited by their low output performance,narrow measuring range,and unidirectional force ***,to achieve flexibility and high performance simultaneously,we developed a flexible wide-range multidimensional force sensor(FWMFS)similar to bones embedded in muscle *** adjustable magnetic field endows the FWMFS with multidimensional perception for detecting forces in different *** multilayer stacked coils significantly improved the output from theμV to the mV level while ensuring FWMFS *** optimized FWMFS exhibited a high voltage sensitivity of 0.227 mV/N(0.5–8.4 N)and 0.047 mV/N(8.4–60 N)in response to normal forces ranging from 0.5 N to 60 N and could detect lateral forces ranging from 0.2–1.1 N and voltage sensitivities of 1.039 mV/N(0.2–0.5 N)and 0.194 mV/N(0.5–1.1 N).In terms of normal force measurements,the FWMFS can monitor finger pressure and sliding trajectories in response to finger taps,as well as measure plantar pressure for assessing human *** plantar pressure signals of five human movements collected by the FWMFS were analyzed using the k-nearest neighbors classification algorithm,which achieved a recognition accuracy of 92%.Additionally,an artificial intelligence biometric authentication system is being developed that classifies and recognizes user *** on the lateral force measurement ability of the FWMFS,the direction of ball movement can be distinguished,and communication systems such as Morse Code can be *** research has significant potential in intelligent sensing and personalized spatial recognition.

Weak measurement amplification,which is considered as a very promising scheme in precision measurement,has been applied to various small physical quantities *** many physical quantities can be converted into phase signals,it is interesting and important to consider measuring small longitudinal phase shifts by using weak ***,we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel weak measurement amplification-based small longitudinal phase estimation,which is suitable for polarization *** realize one order of magnitude amplification measurement of a small phase signal directly introduced by a liquid crystal variable retarder and show that it is robust to the imperfection of ***,we analyze the effect of magnification error which is never considered in the previous works,and find the constraint on the *** results may find important applications in high-precision measurements,e.g.,gravitational wave detection.

Genetic Analysis of Structural Styles in the Makran Accretionary Wedge–Insight from Physical Simulations

The Makran accretionary wedge has the smallest subduction angle among any accretionary prism in the world. The factors controlling the spacing and morphological development of its deep thrust faults, as well as the formation mechanism of shallow normal faults, remain unclear. Meanwhile, the factors affecting the continuity of plane faults must be comprehensively discussed. Clarifying the development characteristics and deformation mechanisms of the Makran accretionary wedge is crucial to effectively guide the exploration of gas hydrate deposits in the area. This study aims to interpret seismic data to identify typical structures in the Makran accretionary wedge, including deep imbricate thrust faults, shallow and small normal faults, wedge-shaped piggyback basins, mud diapirs with fuzzy and disorderly characteristics of reflection, décollements with a northward tilt of 1° – 2°, and large seamounts. Physical simulation-based experiments are performed to comprehensively analyze the results of the plane, section, and slices of the wedge. Results reveal that the distances between and shapes of thrust faults in the deep parts of the Makran accretionary wedge are controlled by the bottom décollement. The uplift of the thrust fault-related folds and the upwelling of the mud diapirs primarily contribute to the formation of small normal faults in the shallow part of the area. The mud diapirs originate from plastic material at the bottom, while those that have developed in the area near the trench are larger. Seamounts and mud diapirs break the continuity of fault plane distribution.

Fouling caused by excess metal ions in hard water can negatively impact the performance of the circulating cooling water system(CCWS)by depositing ions on the heat exchanger's ***,the operation optimization of CCWS often prioritizes short-term flow velocity optimization for minimizing power consumption,without considering ***,low flow velocity promotes ***,it's crucial to balance fouling and energy/water conservation for optimal CCWS long-term *** study proposes a mixed-integer nonlinear programming(MINLP)model to achieve this *** model considers fouling in the pipeline,dynamic concentration cycle,and variable frequency drive to optimize the synergy between heat transfer,pressure drop,and *** optimizing the concentration cycle of the CCWS,water conservation and fouling control can be *** model can obtain the optimal operating parameters for different operation intervals,including the number of pumps,frequency,and valve local resistance *** experiments on cycle and environmental temperature reveal that as the cycle increases,the marginal benefits of energy/water conservation *** periods with minimal impact on fouling rate,energy/water conservation can be achieved by increasing the cycle while maintaining a low fouling ***,the proposed model has significant energy/water saving effects and can comprehensively optimize the CCWS through its incorporation of fouling and cycle optimization.
