The troposphere and ocean mixed layer were considered as two components of a dynamic system operated by solar radiation as the constant source of energy, where upon an air-sea coupling self-exited coupling oscillation model was based with the aid of a locally averaged thermodynamic climate model, resulting mathematically in a closed self-governed dynamic system, a so-called El Nino-Southern oscillation(ENSo) system. With the limit cycle solution of the system. It is shown that the essential physics of the coupled system can be described by the ENSo system. Compared with the observations, the theoretical limit cycle orbit matches the observed phase loop qualitatively. The ENSo system provides a useful theoretical framework for study of interannual variation of the tropical climate system.

The Influence of the Magnetic Field on the Electrical Breakdown phenomena

A simple phenomenological model and detailed simulation studies of the breakdown phenomena in argon and nitrogen under the simultaneous action of electric and magnetic fields are presented in this paper. Expressions for the breakdown voltage have been derived taking into account variations of both the ionization coefficient and the secondary electron yield in a magnetic field. Calculations were performed by using XoopIC code, an object oriented particle in Cell code, with both the original and the improved secondary emission model with inclusion of the influence of the magnetic field on the secondary electron production. The simulation results presented here clearly show that the inclusion of the dependence of the secondary electron yield on the magnetic field leads to better agreement with existing experimental results.

The effect of substitution of Fe^(3+) by Al^(3+) on the structure and magnetic properties of NdAl_(x)Fe_(1-x)o_(3) perovskite nano-powders(x=0.0,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4,and 0.5) prepared by the glycine-nitrate auto-combustion method was *** samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX).The magnetic properties of the samples were investigated using a vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM).The X-ray results for all samples reveal the formation of an orthorhombic perovskite phase(space group pbnm) with no secondary *** crystallite sizes of the nanoparticles are found to decrease with increasing Al content,and are in the range of 53-38 *** images show spherical nanoparticles with *** FT-IR spectra confirm the presence of metal oxygen *** M-H loop of the pristine NdFeo_(3) sample is antiferromagnetic in the a b plane with weak ferromagnetism in the *** AI inclusions in the pristine polycrystal thereby creating magnetic vacancies is seen to influence the magnetic *** magnetic dilution results in enhanced magnetisation at low Al content;x=0.1,0.2(saturation magnetisation being 2.08 and 2.05 emu/g,respectively) compared to the pristine sample with a saturation magnetisation of 1.43 emu/g due to increased exchange *** dilution with nonmagnetic dopant induces the phase transition from weak ferromagnetic to paramagnetic depending on the impurity *** coercive field for NdFeo_(3) is found to be equal to 1950 oe and decreases with *** findings lay a ground work for research in tuning magnetic properties and in spintronics with potential applications in data storage,switches and electronic devices.

Efficiency and productivity analysis of vegetable farming within root and tuber-based systems in the humid tropics of Cameroon

The study analyzes the technical efficiency of vegetable farmers in root and tuber-based farming systems within selected sites of the humid tropics of Cameroon. Multistage sampling was used to collect primary data from a cross-section of vegetable farmers drawn from eight selected sites in Santa sub division, Northwest region of Cameroon. Stochastic frontier analysis was used to estimate the technical efficiency of vegetable farmer and to examine its determinants. The results showed that farmyard manure was the most productive factor input, followed by farm equipment and labor. The mean technical efficiency level was 67%, revealing production shortfalls and indicating possibilities of significantly increasing production with the current input Jevels. Female, as well as more educated farmers were found to be significantly more efficient than their counterparts. The results also showed that farmers become less technical efficient as farm sizes become larger. our study findings suggest that smallholder farmers＇ access to manure, farm implements, and increased women participation in vegetable farming, will produce huge payoffs in vegetable production efficiency in Cameroon.

Round robin using the depth of penetration test method on an armour grade alumina

The depth of penetration(Dop)method is a well-known ballistic test method for characterisation and ranking of ceramic armour *** ceramic tile is bonded to a backing material of semi-infinite thickness,and the penetration depth of the projectile gives a measure of the performance of the *** is,however,an inherent variability in the results from this test *** this work,the accuracy and the variability of the Dop method has been investigated in a round robin *** ballistic test centres took part in the exercise.A test protocol was developed,in which the threat type(projectile and impact conditions)and a procedure on how to prepare the targets were *** targets consisted of alumina tiles of two different thicknesses that were bonded to polycarbonate backing *** different 7.62 mm armour piercing projectiles were employed;one with a hard steel core and one with a tungsten carbide *** projectiles and the other materials all came from single material batches in order to avoid batch-to-batch variations in material *** materials were distributed between the ballistic test *** test results of the different ballistic test facilities were collected and *** was not a lot of variation between the average Dop values obtained at each laboratory,but the variation in penetration depth between shots was *** consequence of this variation may be less confidence in the test results,and a statistical method was used to evaluate the required number of tests that are sufficient to obtain an average result with high *** most cases,the required number of tests is much higher than what is practically *** work was conducted as part of the European Defence Agency-project CERAMBALL.

GaInNAs/GaAs Multiple-Quantum Well Resonant-Cavity-Enhanced photodetectors at 1.3μm

A GaInNAs/GaAs multiple quantum well (MQW) resonant-cavity enhanced photodetector (RCE-pD) operated at a wavelength of 1.3μm with the full width at half maximum of 4nm has been demonstrated. The GaInNAs RCE-pD was grown by molecular beam epitaxy using a homemade ion-removed dc plasma cell as a nitrogen source. GaInNAs/GaAs MQW shows a strong exciton peak at room temperature, which is very beneficial for applications in long-wavelength absorption devices. For a 100μm diameter RCE-pD, the dark current is 20 and 32 pA at biases of 0 and 6 V, respectively, and the breakdown voltage is -18 V. The measured 3 dB bandwidth is 308 MHz, which is limited by the resistance of p-type distributed Bragg reflector mirror. The tunable wavelength in a range of 18nm with the angle of incident light was observed.

A diamine containing ether and ester units, as basic monomer for the preparation of polyamides, was prepared via three consecutive reactions. Nucleophilic substitution reaction of 1,4-dihydroxy benzene with 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride produced 4-hydroxyphenyl 4-nitrobenzoate （HpNB）. Reduction of nitro groups to amino groups using Fe and HC1 resulted in preparation of 4-hydroxyphenyl 4-aminobenzoate （HpAB）. The diamine was synthesized through nucleophilic substitution reaction of HpAB with 2,6-dichloropyridine. The precursors and diamine were fully characterized by common methods, and the diamine was polycondensed with different diacid chlorides in the presence of an acid scavenger to prepare new polyamides. The polyamides were characterized, and their physical properties including thermal stability and behavior, inherent viscosity and solubility were studied.
