In this study, a new method based on image processing was presented to count and discriminate paddy rice, even when they overlapped. This method was performed in three steps. In the first step, using a reference image that excludes any overlapping paddy rice, the average area, standard deviation, and a threshold value for paddy rice were determined.

We consider a power system whose electric demand pertaining to freshwater production is high(high freshwater electric demand),as in the Middle East,and investigate the tradeoff of storing freshwater in tanks versus storing electricity in batteries at the day-ahead operation *** storing freshwater and storing electricity increase the actual electric demand at valley hours and decrease it at peak hours,which is generally beneficial in term of cost and ***,to what extent?We analyze this question considering three power systems with different generation-mix configurations,i.e.,a thermal-dominated mix,a renewable-dominated one,and a fully renewable *** generation-mix configurations are inspired by how power systems may evolve in different countries in the Middle *** production uncertainty is compactly modeled using chance *** draw conclusions on how both storage facilities(freshwater and electricity)complement each other to render an optimal operation of the power system.

The annex A of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation(UNSCEAR)2020/2021 Report presented a comprehensive global estimate of frequencies and doses from medical exposure to ionizing radiation,their distribution and trends for the period *** annex considered four general categories of medical practice using ionizing radiation:(a)diagnostic radiology,including dental radiology and computed tomography,(b)interventional radiology(image-guided interventional procedures),(c)nuclear medicine,and(d)radiation *** the period 2009-2018,about 4.2 billion medical radiological examinations were performed annually,resulting in an annual effective dose of 0.57 mSv per *** use of computed tomography has continued to grow and the contribution from interventional radiology has increased rapidly in recent *** annual number of radionuclide therapy treatments has increased by 60% since the UNSCEAR 2008 Report,while the number of courses of radiation therapy has increased by 22%.Medical exposure remains by far the largest human-made source of radiation exposure to the *** Committee's evaluation relies on the collection of up-to-date and representative exposure data from all Member States of the United *** exposure survey should be more relevant and useful and adapted to changing data sources and changing uses of radiation across the world.

A new one-parameter Chris-Jerry distribution,created by mixing exponential and gamma distributions,is discussed in this article in the presence of incomplete lifetime *** examine a novel generalized progressively hybrid censoring technique that ensures the experiment ends at a predefined period when the model of the test participants has a Chris-Jerry(CJ)*** the indicated censored data is present,Bayes and likelihood estimations are used to explore the CJ parameter and reliability indices,including the hazard rate and reliability *** acquire the estimated asymptotic and credible confidence intervals of each unknown ***,via the squared-error loss,the Bayes’estimators are obtained using gamma *** Bayes estimators cannot be expressed theoretically since the likelihood density is created in a complex manner;nonetheless,Markov-chain Monte Carlo techniques can be used to evaluate *** effectiveness of the investigated estimations is assessed,and some recommendations are given using Monte Carlo ***,an analysis of two engineering applications,such as mechanical equipment and ball bearing data sets,shows the applicability of the proposed approaches that may be used in real-world settings.

Stable and controllable solid flow is essential in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) systems. The L-valve is a typical non-mechanical valve that can provide flexible solid feeding. The investigation of the solid circulation rate and the hydrodynamic characteristics of the L-valve is crucial to its design and operation. The gas-solid flow in the L-valve of a full-loop CFB is studied with the coarse-grained discrete particle method (EMMS-DpM). Good agreements on the solid circulation rate and the pressure drop through the L-valve are achieved between the simulated and experimental data. The solid circulation rate increases linearly with the aeration velocity until the stable particle circulation of the CFB is destroyed. The flow patterns in the horizontal section of L-valve are gas-solid slug flow above the stationary solid layer and the moving solid layer, respectively. The effects of L-valve geometric parameters on the solid flow characteristics are also investigated. The results indicate that reducing the diameter and length of the horizontal section of L-valve can improve the solid transport efficiency, especially at low aeration velocity. Besides, the solid conveying capacity and flow stability are improved when the sharp bend of L-valve is modified to be a gradual bend.

This paper introduces a groundbreaking metaheuristic algorithm named Magnificent Frigatebird optimization(MFo),inspired by the unique behaviors observed in magnificent frigatebirds in their natural *** foundation of MFo is based on the kleptoparasitic behavior of these birds,where they steal prey from other *** this process,a magnificent frigatebird targets a food-carrying seabird,aggressively pecking at it until the seabird drops its *** frigatebird then swiftly dives to capture the abandoned prey before it falls into the *** theoretical framework of MFo is thoroughly detailed and mathematically represented,mimicking the frigatebird’s kleptoparasitic behavior in two distinct phases:exploration and *** the exploration phase,the algorithm searches for new potential solutions across a broad area,akin to the frigatebird scouting for vulnerable *** the exploitation phase,the algorithm fine-tunes the solutions,similar to the frigatebird focusing on a single target to secure its *** evaluate MFo’s performance,the algorithm is tested on twenty-three standard benchmark functions,including unimodal,high-dimensional multimodal,and fixed-dimensional multimodal *** results from these evaluations highlight MFo’s proficiency in balancing exploration and exploitation throughout the optimization *** studies with twelve well-known metaheuristic algo-rithms demonstrate that MFo consistently achieves superior optimization results,outperforming its competitors across various *** addition,the implementation of MFo on four engineering design problems shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach in handling real-world applications,thereby validating its practical utility and robustness.

In this paper two dimensional elliptic interface problem with imperfect contact is considered,which is featured by the implicit jump condition imposed on the imperfect contact interface,and the jumping quantity of the unknown is related to the flux across the interface.A finite difference method is constructed for the 2D elliptic interface problems with straight and curve interface ***,the stability and convergence analysis are given for the constructed ***,in particular case,it is proved to be *** examples for elliptic interface problems with straight and curve interface shapes are tested to verify the performance of the *** numerical results demonstrate that it obtains approximately second-order accuracy for elliptic interface equations with implicit jump condition.
