Antifertility effects of quinestrol in male lesser bandicoot rat, Bandicota bengalensis, and potential in managing rodent population under field conditions

Integrating fertility control techniques using steroid hormones after lethal control can help reduce post control rebuildup of rodent *** current study is thefirst to assess the antifertility effects of quinestrol in male lesser bandicoot rat,Bandicota bengalensis which is the predominant rodent pest species in Southeast *** in different groups were fed bait containing 0.00%,0.01%,0.02%,and 0.03%quinestrol for 10 days in laboratory and evaluated immediately,and 15,30,and 60 days after treatment discontinuation for effect on reproduction and other antifertility *** of 0.03%quinestrol treatment for 15 days was also observed in managing rodent populations in groundnut *** resulted in average consumption of 19.53±1.80,67.63±5.50,and 246.67±1.78 mg/kg bwt active ingredient by three treated groups of rats,*** reproduction was observed in female rats mated with male rats treated with 0.03%quinestrol,even 30 days after cessation of ***-mortem examination showed a significant(pgan weights(testis,cauda epididymis,seminal vesicles,and prostate gland)and different sperm parameters(sperm motility,sperm viability,sperm count,and sperm abnormality)in the cauda epididymalfluid with partial reversibility after 60 days.A significant(pphology of testis and cauda epididymis was observed,suggesting its effect on *** cell association and cell count in seminiferous tubules did not fully recover within 60 days of stopping *** of the effects of quinestrol treatment in groundnutfields showed greater reductions in rodent activity infields treated with 2%zinc phosphide followed by 0.03%quinestrol treatment as compared tofields treated with 2%zinc phosphide *** concludes that quinestrol has the potential to reduce fecundity and post control rebuildup of *** populations,but long-term studies

Toll-like receptors(TLRs),the key sensor molecules in vertebrates,trigger the innate immunity and prime the adaptive immune *** TLR family of rodents,the largest order of mammals,typically contains 13 TLR ***,a clear picture of the evolution of the rodent TLR family has not yet emerged and the TLR evolutionary patterns are unclear in rodent ***,we analyzed the natural variation and the evolutionary processes acting on the TLR family in rodents at both the interspecific and population *** results showed that rodent TLRs were dominated by purifying selection,but a series of positively selected sites(pSSs)primarily located in the ligand-binding domain was also *** numbers of pSSs differed among TLRs,and nonviralsensing TLRs had more pSSs than those in viral-sensing ***-conversion events were found between TLR1 and TLR6 in most rodent *** genetic analyses showed that TLR2,TLR8,and TLR12 were under positive selection in Rattus norvegicus and ***,whereas positive selection also acted on TLR5 and TLR9 in the former species,as well as TLR1 and TLR7 in the latter ***,we found that the proportion of polymorphisms with potentially functional change was much lower in viral-sensing TLRs than in nonviral-sensing TLRs in both of these rat *** findings revealed the first thorough insight into the evolution of the rodent TLR genetic variability and provided important novel insights into the evolutionary history of TLRs over long and short timescales.

The distribution of the immune system throughout the body complicates in vitro assessments of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)immunobiology,often resulting in a lack of reproducibility when extrapolated to the whole ***,developing animal models is imperative for a comprehensive understanding of the pathology and immunology of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)*** review summarizes current progress related to COVID-19 animal models,including non-human primates(NHps),mice,and hamsters,with a focus on their roles in exploring the mechanisms of immunopathology,immune protection,and long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection,as well as their application in immunoprevention and immunotherapy of SARS-CoV-2 *** among these animal models and their specific applications are also highlighted,as no single model can fully encapsulate all aspects of *** effectively address the challenges posed by COVID-19,it is essential to select appropriate animal models that can accurately replicate both fatal and non-fatal infections with varying courses and *** animal model libraries and associated research tools is key to resolving the global COVID-19 pandemic,serving as a robust resource for future emerging infectious diseases.

Avian responses to an extreme weather event:The case of the‘Filomena’snowstorm in Madrid(central Spain)

Cold spells and severe weather may have detrimental effects in wild birds,but owing to the stochastic nature of these events,it is not always possible to measure their *** January 2021,a strong snowstorm known as‘Filomena’affected Spain,mainly the region of Madrid(Central Spain),which was fully covered with snow and suffered freezing temperatures for a *** bird surveys conducted in the winter-spring of 2020 and 2021(before and after Filomena)at same locations,we addressed the possible impact of the cold spell in three widespread gamebirds:Wood pigeon(Columba palumbus),Eurasian Magpie(pica pica)and Red-legged partridge(Alectoris rufa).No significant abundance differences were found between years for none of the species and hunting pressure was only significantly reduced for partridges,hence this species may have been negatively affected by *** suggest that in response to Filomena,pigeons conducted partial migration in search of better conditions,while Magpies aggregated in certain areas of Madrid and partridges endured the harsh conditions within their home *** results highlight the importance to alleviate negative impacts of extreme weather events in wild birds through management actions,especially for sedentary species.

Objective:To formulate a simple rapid procedure for bioreduction of silver nanoparticles using aqueous leaves extract of Moringa oleifera(***).Methods:10 mL of leaf extract was mixed to 90 mL of 1 mM aqueous of AgNO_3 and was heated at 60-80 ℃ for 20 min.A change from brown to reddish color was *** using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM) was ***:TEM showed the formation of silver nanoparticles with an average size of 57 ***:*** demonstrates strong potential for synthesis of silver nanoparticles by rapid reduction of silver ions(Ag^+ to Ag^0). Biological methods are good competents for the chemical procedures,which are eco-friendly and convenient.

The House Martin(Delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in ***,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline *** fill this gap in our knowledge,we investigated how land cover composition affects the abundance of House Martins on the landscape scale by using nationwide citizen science *** a generalised linear mixed-effect model(gLMM),we evaluated 12,094 records from the Czech Republic spanning *** analysis underscores the significance of land cover type in shaping House Martin *** specifically,our results indicate that within agricultural land covers“naturally managed arable lands”exhibited significant positive effect,while forests,orchards,and vineyards were deemed less favourable for House Martin *** urban land covers,we found a clear distinction in the impact on House Martin populations,with a positive effect observed in urban infrastructure,development areas,and post-industrial sites(i.e.,UrbanAreas),while an indifferent impact was noted within urban green spaces and landscaped areas(i.e.,greenUrban).Notably,our findings suggest that the simple spatial,age,and species structure typical of forests in Europe,and similarly,the uniform structure of parks and gardens,may be responsible for the decline in the abundance of the House *** advocate for the preservation or enhancement of urban greenery,expansion of natural vegetation in rural areas and adoption of ecological management practices in orchards and vineyards to mitigate further declines in House Martin populations.
