Direct air capture(DAC)of CO_(2)plays an indispensable role in achieving carbon-neutral goals as one of the key negative emission *** large air flows are required to capture the ultradilute CO_(2)from the air,lab-synthesized adsorbents in powder form may cause unacceptable gas pressure drops and poor heat and mass transfer efficiencies.A structured adsorbent is essential for the implementation of gas-solid contactors for cost-and energy-efficient DAC *** this study,efficient adsorbent poly(ethyleneimine)(PEI)-functionalized Mg-Al-CO_(3)layered double hydroxide(LDH)-derived mixed metal oxides(MMOs)are three-dimensional(3D)printed into monoliths for the first time with more than 90%adsorbent *** printing process has been optimized by initially printing the LDH powder into monoliths followed by calcination into MMO *** structure exhibits a 32.7%higher specific surface area and a 46.1%higher pore volume,as compared to the direct printing of the MMO powder into a *** impregnation of PEI,the monolith demonstrates a large adsorption capacity(1.82 mmol/g)and fast kinetics(0.7 mmol/g/h)using a CO_(2)feed gas at 400 ppm at 25℃,one of the highest values among the shaped DAC *** of the amino-polymers during the post-printing process affects the diffusion of CO_(2),resulting in slower adsorption kinetics of pre-impregnation monoliths compared to post-impregnation *** optimal PEI/MeOH ratio for the post-impregnation solution prevents pores clogging that would affect both adsorption capacity and kinetics.

Effective waste management is a major challenge for Small Island Developing States (SIds) like Maldives due to limited land availability. Maldives exemplifies these issues as one of the most geographically dispersed countries, with a population unevenly distributed across numerous islands varying greatly in size and population density. This study provides an in-depth analysis of the unique waste management practices across different regions of Maldives in relation to its natural and socioeconomic context. Data shows Maldives has one of the highest population density and per capita waste generation among SIds, despite its small land area and medium GDP per capita. Large disparities exist between the densely populated capital Male’ with only 5.8 km2 area generating 63% of waste and the ~194 scattered outer islands with ad hoc waste management practices. Given Male’s dense population and high calorific waste, incineration could generate up to ~30 GW/a energy and even increase Maldives’ renewable energy supply by 200%. In contrast, decentralized anaerobic digestion presents an optimal solution for outer islands to reduce waste volume while providing over 40%–100% energy supply for daily cooking in local families. This timely study delivers valuable insights into designing context-specific waste-to-energy systems and integrated waste policies tailored to Maldives’ distinct regions. The framework presented can also guide other SIds facing similar challenges as Maldives in establishing sustainable, ecologically sound waste management strategies.

TRAIL, tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, is a member of the TNF family of *** cells were initially found to have increased sensitivity to TRAIL compared with normal cells, raising hopes thatTRAIL would prove useful as an anti-tumor agent. The production of reliable monoclonal antibodies against TRAIL andits receptors that can stain fixed specimens will allow a thorough analysis of their expression on normal and malignanttissues. Here we report the generation of monoclonal antibodies against TRAIL and its four membrane-bound receptors(TR1–4), which have been used to stain a range of normal and malignant cells, as routinely fixed specimens. Low levelsof TRAIL expression were found to be limited mostly to smooth muscle in lung and spleen as well as glial cells in thecerebellum and follicular cells in the thyroid. Expression of the TRAIL decoy receptors (TR3 and 4) was not aswidespread as indicated by Northern blotting, suggesting that they may be less important for the control of TRAILcytotoxicity than previously thought. TR1 and TR2 expression increases significantly in a number of malignant tissues,but in some common malignancies their expression was low, or patchy, which may limit the therapeutic role of *** together, we have a panel of monoclonal antibodies that will allow a better assessment of the normal role ofTRAIL and allow assessment of biopsy material, possibly allowing the identification of tumors that may be amenable toTRAIL therapy.
