Dynamic knee valgus kinematics and their relationship to pain in women with patellofemoral pain compared to women with chronic hip joint pain

Effect of Doped Alkali Metal Ions on the SO_(2) Capture Performance of MnO_(2) Desulfurization Materials at Low Temperature

Sulfur dioxide(SO_(2))emissions from diesel exhaust pose a serious threat to the environment and human ***,desulfurization technology and the performance of desulfurization materials must be *** this study,MnO_(2) was modified with various alkali metal ions using the impregnation method to enhance its SO_(2) capture *** composites were characterized intensively by scanning electron microscopy,energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction spectroscopy,and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller *** SO_(2) capture performance of these composites were measured via thermogravimetry,and the effect of doping with alkali metal ions on the SO_(2) capture performance of MnO_(2) was *** showed that the SO_(2) capture performance of MnO_(2) could be enhanced by doping with alkali metal ions,and the MnO_(2) composite doped with LiOH(2.0 mol/L)had the best SO_(2) capture capacity(124 mgSO_(2)/gMaterial),which was 18%higher than that of pure MnO_(2).Moreover,the type and concentration of alkali metal ions had varying effects on the SO_(2) capture performance of MnO_(2).In our experiment,the SO_(2) capture performance of the MnO_(2) doped with NaOH,LiCl,Na2CO3,K2CO3,and Li2CO3 composites were worse than that of pure MnO_(2).Therefore,the influences of the type and concentration of alkali metal ions to be doped into desulfurization materials must be considered comprehensively.

The number of diabetic patients has recently been increasing all over the world together with lifestyle changes including sedentary life and high-calorie diet intake, and as a result the increase in these suffering from diabetes mellitus has become a global issue. Diabetic animal models play a key role in bettering our understanding of the pathophysiology of diabetes and in developing new therapies for the disease. Diabetes is classified into two types, type 1 and type 2, and type 2 diabetes is chiefly caused by a depletion of insulin secretion in the pancreas and insulin resistance in peripheral tissues. The Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rat and the Spontaneously Diabetic Torii (SDT) rat are genetic non-obese type 2 diabetic models, and the both rats are considered to be suitable models for investigating the etiology of the depletion of insulin secretion and impaired glucose tolerance. In this review, we overviewed the outline of pathophysiological features in GK rats and SDT rats, including biological parameters and pharmacological responses.

sport-related concussion(SRC)is a common and increasingly recognised sport-related injury and accounts for between 1%and 9%of all cycling-specific *** has been drawn to the difficulty in managing suspected SRC in a fast-paced sport such as road cycling,particularly the lack of an effective and time-efficient assessment protocol.A meeting on cycling SRC was convened in Harrogate,United Kingdom,in an attempt to resolve this *** aim was to agree on standard terminology,definitions,diagnostic protocols and return to play protocols for the various differing codes of cycle *** experts in the field of cycling medicine were invited to participate by the International Cycling Union and are the authors of this *** panel recognised that the sport of cycling consists of varied disciplines,some of which provide a setting in which a sideline assessment is possible which is in line with the Berlin Consensus ***,other disciplines provide challenging circumstances where health care providers have limited access to participants and where participants are unable to discontinue participation and participate in sideline ***-based discipline-specific protocols and guidelines which recognise the limitations posed by these circumstances,but nevertheless,improve on the current situation specific to the sport of cycling are presented as a potential solution to the unique chal-lenges posed by these cycling disciplines.

AIM: To compare efficacy of telaprevir(TVR) and simeprevir(SMV) combined with pegylated interferon(PEG-IFN) and ribavirin(RBV) while treating chronic hepatitis C(CHC). METHODS: In all, 306 CHC patients were included in this study. There were 159 patients in the TVR combination therapy group and 147 patients in the SMV combination therapy group. To evaluate pretreatment factors contributing to sustained virological response at 12 wk(SVR12), univariate and multivariate analyses were performed in TVR and SMV groups. To adjust for patient background between TVR and SMV groups, propensity score matching was performed. Virological response during treatment and SVR12 were ***: Overall rates of SVR12 [undetectable serum hepatitis C virus(HCV) RNA levels] were 79.2% and 69.4% in TVR and SMV groups, respectively. Patients in the SMV group were older, had higher serum HCV RNA levels, lower hemoglobin, higher prevalence of unfavorable interleukin-28B(IL28B) genotype(rs8099917), and poorer response to previous PEG-IFN and RBV treatment. Propensity score matching was performed to adjust for backgrounds(n = 104) and demonstrated SVR12 rates of 74.0% and 73.1% in the TVR and SMV groups, respectively. In the TVR group, discontinuation rates were higher because of adverse events; however, breakthrough and nonresponse was more frequent in the in SMV group. Multivariate analysis revealed IL28 B genotype(rs8099917) as the only independent predictive factor of SVR12 in both ***: SVR12 rates were almost identical following propensity score matching.

Perceptions and Attitudes Towards Shoulder Padding and Shoulder Injury in Rugby Union

Purpose To develop an understanding of the role of shoulder padding in rugby union by investigating player perceptions and attitudes towards shoulder padding and extending research into shoulder injuries in *** An online survey was distributed to past and current rugby players over 13 years old in *** related to the participants’demographic,attitudes to shoulder padding and shoulder injury *** Six hundred and sixteen rugby players responded to the survey;66.1%of respondents had worn shoulder padding at some *** age group 24-29 years old(ΔR^(2)=0.03,B=−0.53,P=0.015)had an inverse association with padding effectiveness while playing experience groups 1-2 years(ΔR^(2)=0.03,B=0.8,P=0.032),3-5 years(ΔR^(2)=0.03,B=0.70,P=0.002)and 6-9 years(ΔR^(2)=0.03,B=0.41,P=0)had a positive *** are 37.1%of respondents consider-ing shoulder padding to be effective at preventing cuts and abrasions with 21.9%finding it very effective;50.3%considered it to be effective or very effective(9.7%)at preventing contusion;45.5%wore padding for injury prevention,while 19.2%wore padding to protect from reoccurring ***/ligament damage(57.5%)and bruising(55.5%)were the most com-monly reported *** The primary reason for wearing shoulder padding was as a means of injury *** should focus on quantifying the injury preventive capabilities of shoulder ***,cuts and abrasion injuries to the shoulder are prevalent presenting new findings that these injuries are underreported.

The use of TiO2 as an anode in rechargeable sodium-ion batteries(NIBs)is hampered by intrinsic low electronic conductivity of TiO2 and in ferior electrode ***,a high-performa nee T1O2 electrode for NIBs is prese nted by desig ning a multicha rinel porous T1O2 nano fibers with well-dispersed Cu nan odots and Cu^2+-doping derived oxyge n vaca ncies(Cu-MPTO).The in-situ grow n well-dispersed copper nano dots of about 3 nm on TiO2 surface could significantly enhance electronic conductivity of the TiO2 *** one-dimensional multichannel porous structure could facilitate the electrolyte to soak in,leadi ng to short tran sport path of Na^+through carb on toward the TiO2 nano *** Cu^2+-doping induced oxygen vacancies could decrease the bandgap of T1O2,resulting in easy electron *** this strategy,the Cu-MPTO electrodes render an outstanding rate performance for NIBs(120 mAh·g^-1 at 20 C)and a superior cycling stability for ultralong cycle life(120 mAh·g^-1 at 20 C and 96.5%retention over 2,000 cycles).Density functional theory(DFT)calculations also suggest that Cu^2+doping can enhance the conductivity and electron transfer of T1O2 and lower the sodiation energy *** strategy is confirmed to be a general process and could be extended to improve the performance of other materials with low electronic conductivity applied in energy storage systems.

Anthropometrics and electromyography as predictors for maximal voluntary isometric arm strength

Background:Muscular strength can be conceptually determined by two components:muscle activation and *** activation by the central nervous system can be measured by surface electromyography(sEMG).Muscular size reflects the amount of contractile protein within a skeletal muscle and can be estimated by anthropometric *** purpose of this study was to determine the relative contributions of size parameters and muscle activation to the prediction of maximal voluntary isometric elbow flexion strength. Methods:A series of anthropometric measurements were taken from 96 *** and root-mean-square(RMS) of the sEMG from the biceps brachii were averaged across three maximal voluntary isometric contractions.A multiple linear regression analysis was performed based on a Pearson's correlation matrix. Results:Body weight(BW) accounted for 39.1% and 27.3% in males and females,respectively,and was the strongest predictor of strength for *** length(L3) was the strongest predictor of strength in females(partial R^2 = 0.391).Elbow circumference(ELB) accounted for a significant(p < 0.05) amount of variance in males but not *** addition of sEMG RMS as a third variable accounted for an average of 10.1% of the variance excluding the equation of BW and L3 in *** strongest prediction equation included BW,L3,and ELB accounting for 55.6% and 58.5% of the variance in males and females,respectively. Conclusion:Anthropometrics provide a strong prediction equation for the estimation of isometric elbow flexion *** activation,as measured by sEMG activity,accounted for a significant(p < 0.05) amount of variance in most prediction equations,however,its contribution was comparable to an additional anthropometric variable.

This study reports the first experimental demonstration of surface contamination cleaning from a high-repetition supply of thin-tape targets for laser-driven carbon-ion *** adsorption of contaminants containing protons,mainly water vapor and hydrocarbons,on the surface of materials exposed to low vacuum(>10^(−3)Pa)suppresses carbon-ion *** newly developed contamination cleaner heats a 5-μm-thick nickel tape to over 400℃in 100 ms by induction *** the future,this heating method could be scaled to laserdriven carbon-ion acceleration at rates beyond 10 *** contaminant hydrogen is eliminated from the heated nickel surface,and a carbon source layer—derived from the contaminant carbon—is spontaneously formed by the catalytic effect of *** species of ions accelerated from the nickel film heated to various temperatures have been observed *** the nickel film is heated beyond∼150℃,the proton signal considerably decreases,with a remarkable increase in the number and energy of carbon *** Langmuir adsorption model adequately explains the temperature dependence of desorption and re-adsorption of the adsorbed molecules on a heated target surface,and the temperature required for proton-free carbon-ion acceleration can be estimated.
