Recognition of Association Between Blood Stasis Syndrome and Traumatic Injury among Doctors of Korean Medicine:A Cross-Sectional Observation Study

Objective： To investigate the diagnostic indicators and herbal treatments for blood stasis syndrome（BSS） patients with traumatic injuries and to identify the association between BSS and traumatic injury in Korea. Methods： Two-hundred and four patients with traumatic injury were recruited from the Gangnam and Daejeon branches of Jaseng Hospital of oriental Medicine between June 2014 and December 2014. Two independent doctors of Korean medicine（DKMs） determined the diagnosis of BSS or non-BSS based on the subjects＇ signs and symptoms. The scores assigned to BSS symptoms and DKMs＇ reasons for diagnosing BSS in patients with traumatic injury were investigated. Both medication and herbal prescription records from a 3-month period were collected for all patients diagnosed with BSS by both DKMs. Results： A total of 169 of 204（82.8%） patients received consistent diagnosis related to BSS by two DKMs. Among them, 54.4%（92 cases） were diagnosed with BSS, and 45.6%（77 cases） were not diagnosed with BSS. DKMs most frequently cited symptoms of recent traumatic injury as justifications for BSS diagnoses, and also selected pain-related indicators such as abdominal pain, sharp pain and nocturnal pain as important reasons in diagnosing BSS. In addition, an inconsistency in the pattern identification theory with respect to traumatic injury was observed. Although only 92 cases（54.4%） of patients were diagnosed with BSS, 77.6% of them were prescribed decoctions for BSS. Conclusions： DKMs considered traumatic injury could cause BSS, and utilized decoction for BSS in patients with traumatic injury without confirming a diagnosis of BSS because they assumed the main symptoms or pathologies of traumatic injury to be closely related to BSS.

Diagnostic Indicators for Blood Stasis Syndrome Patients with Gynaecological Diseases

Objective： To investigate the important diagnostic indicators for blood stasis syndrome （BSS） in patients of childbearing age with gynaecological diseases. Methods： A partial least squared-discriminant analysis （PLS-DA） were applied to BSS symptoms data of patients with gynaecological diseases, and the diagnostic indicators used by doctors of Korean medicine （DKMs） among BSS patients with gynaecological diseases were also investigated. Results： A total of 103 patients of childbearing age with gynaecological diseases and 40 healthy controls were enrolled. Among the 103 patients, 63 （61.7%） and 40 （38.8%） were diagnosed with BSS and non-BSS, respectively, and BSS patients exhibited a more severe extent of disease. A score plot of PLS-DA showed clearly different patterns among the 3 groups. Based on the variable importance on projection of PLS-DA model, menstrual pains, dark lumps in the menstrual blood, ileocoecal tenderness and resistance, sharp pains, and sublingual varicosities were selected as the top five most important indicators. Moreover, more than 75% of DKMs chose dark lumps in menstrual blood, menstrual pain, and dark menstrual blood as the diagnostic indicators of BSS in patients with gynaecological diseases, and more than 49% of them also considered sharp pains, dark red tongue, sublingual varicosities, and tendency to bruise easily as diagnostic indicators of BSS. Conclusion： DKMs focused on menstrual symptoms and certain gynaecological symptoms to diagnose BSS patients of childbearing age with female diseases.

Prediction of Cold and Heat Patterns Using Anthropometric Measures Based on Machine Learning

Objective： To examine the association of body shape with cold and heat patterns, to determine which anthropometric measure is the best indicator for discriminating between the two patterns, and to investigate whether using a combination of measures can improve the predictive power to diagnose these patterns. Methods： Based on a total of 4,859 subjects （3,000 women and 1,859 men）, statistical analyses using binary logistic regression were performed to assess the significance of the difference and the predictive power of each anthropometric measure, and binary logistic regression and Naive Bayes with the variable selection technique were used to assess the improvement in the predictive power of the patterns using the combined measures. Results： In women, the strongest indicators for determining the cold and heat patterns among anthropometric measures were body mass index （BMI） and rib circumference; in men, the best indicator was BMI. In experiments using a combination of measures, the values of the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve in women were 0.776 by Naive Bayes and 0.772 by logistic regression, and the values in men were 0.788 by Naive Bayes and 0.779 by logistic regression. Conclusions： Individuals with a higher BMI have a tendency toward a heat pattern in both women and men. The use of a combination of anthropometric measures can slightly improve the diagnostic accuracy. Our findings can provide fundamental information for the diagnosis of cold and heat patterns based on body shape for personalized medicine.

Discharge characteristics of a needle-to-plate electrode at a micro-scale gap

To understand the discharge characteristics under a gap of micrometers,the breakdown voltage and current–voltage curve are measured experimentally in a needle-to-plate electrode at a microscale gap of 3–50 μm in *** effect of the needle radius and the gas pressure on the discharge characteristics are *** results show that when the gap is larger than 10 μm,the relation between the breakdown voltage and the gap looks like the Paschen curve;while below 10 μm,the breakdown voltage is nearly constant in the range of the tested ***,at the same gap distance,the breakdown voltage is still affected by the pressure and shows a trend similar to Paschen＇s *** current–voltage characteristic in all the gaps is similar and follows the trend of a typical Townsend-to-glow discharge.A simple model is used to explain the non-normality of breakdown in the *** Townsend mechanism is suggested to control the breakdown process in this configuration before the gap reduces much smaller in air.

In vitro fungistatic activity of 36 traditional oriental medicines and their synergistic effect against Trichophyton rubrume

Objective: To investigate the fungistatic activity and synergistic effects of natural products and their constituents, including traditional oriental medicines(TOMs).Methods: Fungistatic activities of TOMs prepared by hot-water(115 ℃) or ethanol(70%; 40 ℃) extraction were determined by their minimum inhibitory *** assess possible synergistic effects, minimum inhibitory concentrations of various combinations were ***: By evaluating antifungal susceptibility of Trichophyton rubrum, which is a major causative fungus for several types of dermatophytosis, we confirmed that ethanol extracts were more active than hot-water extracts in 25 of the 36 TOMs, suggesting that the constituents with high hydrophobicity tend to contribute significantly to fungistatic *** selected four TOMs with high fungistatic activity, including Aucklandiae radix, Gentianae macrophyllae radix, Scutellariae radix, and Galla rhois, and their synergistic effects were investigated through the combination studies between TOMs or TOM-conventional drug *** combinations between four TOMs, partial synergistic effects were observed in Aucklandiae radix–Galla rhois and Gentianae macrophyllae radix–Galla rhois combinations, as supported by the lowest fractional inhibitory concentration index value of 0.66 for both ***, Galla rhois showed the strongest synergistic effect on growth inhibition of Trichophyton rubrumwith a fractional inhibitory concentration index value of 0.50 in combination with ***: Our findings indicate that the combination of TOMs and TOM-terbinafine may be effective on treatment for chronic and recurrent dermatophytosis by improving fungistatic activity and led to decrease systemic toxicity in clinical practice.

Hybrid optimization algorithm based on chaos,cloud and particle swarm optimization algorithm

As for the drop of particle diversity and the slow convergent speed of particle in the late evolution period when particle swarm optimization（PSO） is applied to solve high-dimensional multi-modal functions,a hybrid optimization algorithm based on the cat mapping,the cloud model and PSO is *** the PSO algorithm evolves a certain of generations,this algorithm applies the cat mapping to implement global disturbance of the poorer individuals,and employs the cloud model to execute local search of the better individuals;accordingly,the obtained best individuals form a new *** this new swarm,the evolution operation is maintained with the PSO algorithm,using the parameter of pop distr to balance the global and local search capacity of the algorithm,as well as,adopting the parameter of mix gen to control mixing times of the *** comparative analysis is carried out on the basis of 4 functions and other *** indicates that this algorithm shows faster convergent speed and better solving precision for solving functions particularly those high-dimensional multi-modal ***,the suggested values are proposed for parameters pop distr and mix gen applied to different dimension functions via the comparative analysis of parameters.

Objective:To investigate the gene related to β-lactam resistance and to confirm the mechanism about a synergy effect between CPZ and β-lactam ***:To measure antibacterial activity,we performed a minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) and synergy *** electron microscopy(TEM) was used in morphological *** analyze gene expression,we conducted reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Results:We confirmed a synergy effect between CPZ and β-lactam ***,we observed that CPZ affect the cell envelope of MRS A by using *** the gene level,CPZ reduced the expression of resistance ***:Through this result,we hypothesize that a decrease of resistance factor expressions was caused by CPZ because it disrupts the activity of a sensor protein located in the cell membrane.

Inhibitory potential of three Yin-tonification herbal formulas on the activities of human major cytochrome P450 and UDP-glucuronosyltransferases isozymes in vitro

Effects of Traditional Herbal Formulae on Human CYP450 Isozymes

Objective：To assess the effects of traditional herbal formulae Sijunzi Decoction（四君子汤,Sagunja-tang,SJZD）,Siwu Decoction（四物汤,Samul-tang,SWD）,Bawu Decoction（八物汤,Palmul-tang,BWD）and Shiquan Dabu Decoction（十全大补汤,Sipjeondaebo-tang,SDD）on the activities of human cytochrome P450（CYP450）,a drug-metabolizing ***：Herbal formula water extracts were filtered and lyophilized after the powder extracts were dissolved in distilled *** activities of major human CYP450isozymes（CYP3A4,CYP2C19,CYP2D6 and CYP2E1）were measured using in vitro fluorescence-based enzyme *** inhibitory effects of the herbal formulas on the activities of CYP450 were characterized as half maximal inhibition concentration（IC50）***：All the tested herbal formulae inhibited CYP2C19activity（IC50：SJZD,83.28μg/m L;SWD,235.54μg/m L;BWD,166.82μg/m L;SDD,178.19μg/m L）;SJZD（IC50=196.46μg/m L）,SWD（IC50=333.42μg/m L）and SDD（IC50=163.42μg/m L）inhibited CYP2E1-mediated metabolism;whereas BWD exhibited comparatively weak inhibition of CYP2E1（IC50=501.78μg/m L）.None of the four herbal formulas significantly affected CYP3A4 or ***：These results suggest that SJZD,SWD,BWD and SDD could potentially inhibit the metabolism of co-administered synthetic drugs whose primary route of elimination is via *** addition,clinically relevant pharmacokinetic interactions could occur when SJZD,SWD or SDD is co-administered with drugs metabolized by *** findings provide information for the safety and effective clinical use of these four classic herbal formulas.
