Defining Stress among Corrections Professionals

Corrections professionals experience high levels of acute and chronic work-related stress. This stress leads to increased mental and physical illness, early disability and mortality, and increased healthcare costs. Reducing stress requires identifying and prioritizing factors that contribute to it. Corrections professionals (n = 296) working at six different oregon Department of Corrections facilities completed a cross-sectional survey, including demographics, work history and validated stress and occupational constructs. The outcome of perceived stress was measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-4 Short Form). Using a linear mixed effects regression model, we found that perceived stress increases with increased work-related stress (p = 0.02), work hours (p = 0.03), operational stressors (p = 0.002), and lack of procedural injustice (p = 0.03) and decreases with more time employed at current facility (p = 0.06), improved job satisfaction (p < 0.001), and among married or partnered individuals (p = 0.05). Identifying these predictors of stress can inform the development of policy changes to mitigate the stress of this challenged work force.

Noise Induced Hearing Loss in Children:Preventing the Silent Epidemic

Noise-induced hearing loss and related tinnitus are often unrecognized problems, especially in non-occupational settings. Research indicates that increasing numbers of children and adolescents have or are acquiring noise induced hearing losses. Noise induced hearing loss can almost completely be prevented with simple precautionary measures. Educational programs rarely exist outside of those mandated in occupational settings. health Communication theory can be applied to hearing health for developing effective loss prevention programs. Dangerous Decibels is one example of an effective multi-disciplinary effort to develop and disseminated prevention strategies.

Cyber-physical systems(CPS)tightly integrate cyber and physical components and transcend discrete and continuous *** is greatly desired that the synergy between cyber and physical components of CPS is explored even before the complete system is put *** has potential to play a significant role in exploring such *** this paper,we propose a CPS virtualization approach based on the integration of virtual machine and physical component *** enables real software,virtual hardware,and virtual physical components to execute in a holistic virtual execution *** have implemented this approach using QEMU as the virtual machine and Matlab/Simulink as the physical component emulator,*** achieve high-fidelity between the real system and its virtualization,we have developed a strategy for synchronizing the virtual machine and the physical component *** evaluate our approach,we have successfully applied it to real-world control *** results have shown that our approach achieves high-fidelity in capturing dynamic behaviors of the entire *** approach is promising in enabling early development of cyber components of CPS and early exploration of the synergy of cyber and physical components.

Glucosyltransferases(Gtfs)play critical roles in the etiology and pathogenesis of Streptococcus mutans(***)-mediated dental caries including early childhood *** enhance the biofilm formation and promotes colonization of cariogenic bacteria by generating biofilm extracellular polysaccharides(EPSs),the key virulence property in the cariogenic ***,Gtfs have become an appealing target for effective therapeutic interventions that inhibit cariogenic ***,targeting Gtfs selectively impairs the *** virulence without affecting *** existence or the existence of other species in the oral *** the past decade,numerous Gtfs inhibitory molecules have been identified,mainly including natural and synthetic compounds and their derivatives,antibodies,and metal *** therapeutic agents exert their inhibitory role in inhibiting the expression gtf genes and the activities and secretion of Gtfs enzymes with a wide range of sensitivity and *** molecular mechanisms of inhibiting Gtfs will contribute to instructing drug combination strategies,which is more effective for inhibiting Gtfs than one drug or class of *** review highlights our current understanding of Gtfs activities and their potential utility,and discusses challenges and opportunities for future exploration of Gtfs as a therapeutic target.

Equality detection for linear arithmetic constraints

Satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) play a key role in verification applications. A crucial SMT problem is to combine separate theory solvers for the union of theories. In previous work, the simplex method is used to determine the solvability of constraint systems and the equalities implied by constraint systems are detected by a multitude of applications of the dual simplex method. We present an effective simplex tableau-based method to identify all implicit equalities such that the simplex method is harnessed to an irreducible minimum. Experimental results show that the method is feasible and effective.

The reported prevalence of autism spectrum disorder（ASD） has been increasing rapidly in many parts of the world. However, data on its prevalence in China are largely missing. Here, we assessed the suitability of the modi？ed Chinese version of a newly-developed ASD screening tool, the Modi？ed Chinese Autism Spectrum Rating Scales（MC-ASRS） in screening for ASD in Chi nese children aged 6–12 years, through comparison with the Social Responsiveness Scale（SRS） that has been widely used for ASD screening. We recruited the par ents/caregivers of 1588 typically-developing children and190 children with ASD aged 6–12 years to complete the MC-ASRS and SRS, and evaluated the validity of both scales in discriminating children with ASD from those developing typically. The results showed that MC-ASRSperformed as well as SRS in sensitivity, speci？city, and area-under-the-curve（both [0.95） in receiver operating characteristic analysis, with a fair false-negative *** results suggest that MC-ASRS is a promising tool for screening for children with ASD in the general Chinese population.

Generalized interface automata with multicast synchronization

Interface automata are one of the prominent formalisms for specifying interface behaviors of componentbased systems. However, only one-to-one communication is allowed in the composition of interface automata. This paper presents multicast interface automata which generalize the classic interface automata and accommodate multicast communication mechanism. The multicast interface automata endorse both bottom-up and top-down design methodologies. Theoretical results on compatibility and refinement are established for incremental design and independent implementability.
