Seasonal variations of phosphorus species in the Tuohe River, China. Part Ⅰ. Sediments

Sediment cores were collected at an upstream site(Jintang) and a downstream site(Neijiang) in summer and winter in the Tuohe River, which is one of the five largest tributaries of the Changjiang(Yangtze) River in China. A sequential leaching procedure was applied to determine the concentrations of the different forms of solid phosphorus, including exchangeable phosphorus(Exc-P) as well as phosphorus associated with iron oxides(Fe-P), with aluminum oxides(Al-P), with apatite(Ca-P) and with the residual fraction(Res-P), as correlated with water content and total organic carbon. The seasonal variations and the vertical distributions of phosphorus species in sediments at both sampling sites demonstrated that: 1) total phosphorus(TP) in summer and winter were ranged between 1 313–2 330, 1 491–2 228 mg/kg in Jintang and 543–2 128, 603–1 175 mg/kg in Neijiang, respectively. It can predicated the pollution of TP in Jintang is serious than that in Neijiang both in summer and winter; 2) total inorganic phosphorus(TIP) was the dominant form of TP; 3) Ca-P was the main chemical forms of TIP in the sediments. Based on the profiles in sediments and bio-available phosphorus data, it revealed that bio-available phosphorus(BAP) represented only a minor portion(0.61%–3.59%) of TP, and the vertical distribution of soluble reactive phosphorus(SRP) in corresponding porewaters was more abundant in the upper layer of the sediment, which suggests that BAP may be converted to non-bioavailable phosphorus in deeper layer of the sediment of this dynamic system.

Altitude affects leaf stoichiometry by regulating temperature and precipitation,and influencing soil properties in mountain *** carbon concentration(C),leaf nitrogen concentration(N),leaf phosphorous concentration(P),and their stoichiometric ratios of Leontopodium lentopodioides(Willd.)Beauv.,a widespread species in degraded grasslands,were investigated to explore its response and adaptation strategy to environmental changes along four altitude gradients(2500,3000,3500,and 3800 m a.s.l.)on the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP),*** leaf C significantly varied but without any clear trend with increasing *** N showed an increasing trend,and leaf P showed a little change with increasing altitude,with a lower value of leaf P at 3500 m than those at other ***,leaf C:P and N:P exhibited a little change with increasing altitude,which both had greater values at 3500 m than those at other ***,leaf C:N exhibited a decreasing trend with increasing *** NH^(+)_(4)-N,soil pH,soil total phosphorus(STP),mean annual temperature(MAT),and mean annual precipitation(MAP)were identified as the main factors driving the variations in leaf stoichiometry of *** across all altitudes,with NH^(+)_(4)-N alone accounting for 50.8%of its total ***,leaf C and N were mainly controlled by MAT,soil pH,and NH^(+)_(4)-N,while leaf P by MAP and *** the study area,it seems that the growth of *** may be mainly limited by *** results could help to strengthen our understanding of the plasticity of plant growth to environmental changes and provide new information on global grassland management and restoration.

Canadian Forces(CF)CF188 Hornet aircraft have been plagued with water ingress and related damage in their composite flight control surfaces(FCS). Water ingress can cause structural degradation including corrosion,delamination and disbond. Two different radiology inspection systems were recently acquired by the CF.A new Neutron Radioscopy system and an X-ray Computed Radiography (CR)system underwent evaluation for detecting water ingress in the composite FCS of the CF188. A Probability of Detection(POD)study revealed that the new neutron radioscopy system has an a90/95 value of 4.65 L for water detection. Furthermore,the X-ray CR system demonstrated sensitivity similar to conventional X-ray film radiography;its a90/95 value for water detection is 20.55 *** image plate from the CR system was also used in conjunction with a conversion screen for neutron radiography and was able to identify water defects in the FCS.

Current understanding of mental disorders is based upon “biopsychosocial model”. Research also suggests what biological changes take place in a particular disorder as well as nature of risk which arises from psychological, social and environmental conditions. However it remains unclear how these psychosocial and environmental risk factors interact with biological factors which lead to clinical syndromes. This paper examines interrelationship of psychosocial and environmental risk and biological changes observed in mental disorders and tries to identify the possibility of a pathway of the psychopathology of psychiatric disorders. The review aims to demonstrate that significant advances in the fields of psychosocial, cultural, anthropological and neurobiological research provide novel insights into the etiology of mental disorders. There are neurochemical, functional and structural neurobiological, neurocognitive, immunological findings and findings from gene-environment interaction that appears promising. However these findings are in an isolated manner. Comprehensive studies examining major biological changes together in relation to psychosocial risk factors are lacking. Every individual reacts differently to the same environmental risk while there tends to be similarities in individual outcome in response to such stressors. The findings though robust independently, remain very preliminary to suggest a sequential trajectory for developing a clear pathway for pathogenesis. It is currently unclear whether there is a differential psychopathological impact of psychosocial stressors in different cultures despite the extensive variability both between and within major social groups and societies. Further research investigating modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors in context of prevailing socio-economic conditions is urgently needed to plan effective interventions.

The Earth’s three poles,the North Pole,South Pole,and Third Pole(i.e.,the Tibetan Plateau and its surroundings),hold the largest amount of fresh water on Earth as glaciers,sea ice,and *** are sensitive to climate ***,the linkages between climate variations of the three poles,particularly between the South Pole and Third Pole,remain largely *** temperatures at 200 hPa over the three poles are the highest in the summer and are less affected by surface conditions,which could reflect large-scale dynamic *** at 200 hPa peak the three poles during their respective hemispheric summer and exhibit in-phase variations on interdecadal timescales(10–100 years).The 200 hPa temperatures over the North Pole and South Pole were significantly correlated with the Brewer-Dobson circulation(BDC),which transports stratospheric ozone poleward,heating the air at 200 *** warming over the Third Pole was found to enhance the poleward BDC,particularly to the South Pole,linking the Third Pole’s climate to the other two ***,the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation(IPO)also exhibits links with the 200 hPa temperatures of the three poles.

Herein we present a new perspective showing that water-soluble liquids,when added to water,undergo transient emulsification before complete ***,non-amphiphilic macromolecules can self-assemble at the two-miscible-phase interface when cononsolvent effect appears.A representative case shown here is that when poly(A/-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAm),prepared by aqueous radical polymerization,in methanol solution is added into water,the polymer chains rapidly self-assemble into hollow micro-vesicles based on the cononsolvency at water/methanol *** finding provides a subtle strategy to prepare hollow micro-vesicles by non-amphiphilic polymers without template *** proposed a new concept^interfacial cononsolvencyw to describe the formation *** to the easy modification process,sugar-contained PNIPAm chains are synthesized by *** an application example,it is shown that these sugar-contained PNIPAm chains can afford MsweetH micro-vesicles(containing glucose residues).And the"sweer"micro-vesicles can well mimick the protocells which are involved in the recognition of bacteria.

Comparative Osteology and Phylogenetic Relationship of Edmontosaurus and Shantungosaurus (Dinosauria:Hadrosauridae) from the Upper Cretaceous of North America and East Asia

The close affinity between Edmontosaurus and Shantungosaurus is corroborated on the basis of the following shared features：an occipital condyle deflected strongly posteroventrally; a posterodorsally reflected, lip-shaped oral margin of the premaxilla, with a deep, oval concavity at the anteromedial corner of the bone; a well-demarcated posterodorsal margin of the deeply excavated circumnarial fossa formed by a prominent arched ridge along the entire posterior half of the lateroventral border of the nasal; an anteroposteriorly broad jugal process of the postorbital; a strongly concave dorsal surface of the paired frontals; seven teeth per alveolus in the middle of the dentary tooth row; and a circular distal blade of the pubis that is much more expanded ventrally than dorsally. A revised phylogenetic analysis of Hadrosauroidea recovers a sister taxon relationship between Edmontosaurus and Shantungosaurus. Kerberosaurus is recovered as the sister taxon to the clade formed exclusively by these two genera. The clade Edmontosaurini could be defined as the least inclusive clade containing Kerberosaurus and Edmontosaurus, which is currently composed of the genera Kerberosaurus, Edmontosaurus, and Shantungosaurus. Zhuchengosaurus and Huaxiaosaurus,both from the Upper Cretaceous Wangshi Group in Zhucheng, are interpreted as junior synonyms of Shantungosaurus. Kundurosaurus is likewise considered a junior synonym of Kerberosaurus. The strict consensus tree together with biogeographic information indicates that the clade Edmontosaurini originated in Asia and subsequently dispersed into North America.

Global concerns have been paid to the potential hazard of traditional herbal medicinal products(THMPs). Substandard and counterfeit THMPs, including traditional Chinese patent medicine, health foods, dietary supplements, etc. are potential threats to public health. Recent marketplace studies using DNA barcoding have determined that the current quality control methods are not sufficient for ensuring the presence of authentic herbal ingredients and detection of contaminants/adulterants. An efficient biomonitoring method for THMPs is of great needed. Herein, metabarcoding and single-molecule, realtime(SMRT) sequencing were used to detect the multiple ingredients in Jiuwei Qianghuo Wan(JWQHW), a classical herbal prescription widely used in China for the last 800 years. Reference experimental mixtures and commercial JWQHW products from the marketplace were used to confirm the method. Successful SMRT sequencing results recovered 5416 and 4342 circular-consensus sequencing(CCS) reads belonging to the ITS2 and psb A-trn H regions. The results suggest that with the combination of metabarcoding and SMRT sequencing, it is repeatable, reliable, and sensitive enough to detect species in the THMPs, and the error in SMRT sequencing did not affect the ability to identify multiple prescribed species and several adulterants/contaminants. It has the potential for becoming a valuable tool for the biomonitoring of multi-ingredient THMPs.
