Four different formation processes of spinning detonation in a narrow square tube are investigated by three-dimensional parallel ***-resolution simulations are performed with a Riemann solver of the HLLC-type,high-order,parallel AMR reactive flow *** simulations clearly show that the detonation structure transforms from rectangular and diagonal modes into spinning mode respectively during the propagation *** wave dynamic and periodic oscillation of the front plays a significant role in the spinning detonations'formation.

The Royal Military college of Canada, located on the north eastern shore of Lake ontario, possesses an abundance of copper roofs and lacks surface water treatment prior to discharge into Lake ontario. Rainwater, roof runoff and soil samples were collected and analyzed for copper and other parameters. Copper was consistently detected in runoff samples with average concentrations of 3200 ± 2100 μg/L. Multivariable linear regression analysis for a dependant copper runoff concentration yielded an adjusted R 2 value of 0.611, based on an independent variable model using minimum temperature, maximum temperature, total precipitation, and wind speed. Lake water samples taken in the vicinity of storm water outfalls draining areas with copper roofs ranged from 2.0 to 40 μg/L copper. Such data exceed the 2.0 μg/L Canadian Water Quality Guidelines for the Protection of Aquatic Life as outlined by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment （CCME）. Analysis of raw, filtered and digested forms suggested that the majority of copper present in runoff and lake water samples was in a dissolved form. The majority of soils taken in this study displayed copper concentrations below the 63 μg/g CCME residential/parkland land use limits. These findings suggested that ion exchange processes between runoff water and soil do not occur to a sufficient extent to elevate copper levels in soil. It may therefore be concluded that the eventual fate of copper, which is not discharged via storm water outfalls, is lost to the water table and Lake ontario through the sub-soil.

Due to the deformation ability even under small loads, hydrogels have been widely used as a type of soft materials in various applications such as actuating and sensing, and have attracted many researchers to study their behaviors. In this paper, the behavior of hydrogel micro-valves with reverse sensitivity to the p H inside a T-junction flow sorter is investigated. With the fluid-structure interaction(FSI) approach, the effects of various parameters such as the inlet pressure and the p H value on the stress and deformation of the micro-valves are examined, and the results with and without FSI,including the flow rate and the closure p H, are compared. In order to reduce the response time of hydrogels, the effects of three different patterns on the performance of the microvalves are explored. Eventually, it is concluded that FSI is a key influential factor in designing and analyzing the behaviors of hydrogels.

Thermal conductivity of micro/nano-porous polymers: Prediction models and applications

Micro/nano-porous polymeric material is considered a unique industrial material due to its extremelylow thermal conductivity, low density, and high surface area. Therefore, it is necessary to establishan accurate thermal conductivity prediction model suiting their applicable conditions and provide atheoretical basis for expanding their applications. In this work, the development of the calculationmodel of equivalent thermal conductivity of micro/nano-porous polymeric materials in recent yearsis summarized. Firstly, it reviews the process of establishing the overall equivalent thermal conductivity calculation model for micro/nanoporous polymers. Then, the predicted calculation models ofthermal conductivity are introduced separately according to the conductive and radiative thermalconductivity models. In addition, the thermal conduction part is divided into the gaseous thermalconductivity model, solid thermal conductivity model and gas-solid coupling model. Finally, it isconcluded that, compared with other porous materials, there are few studies on heat transfer of micro/nanoporous polymers, especially on the particular heat transfer mechanisms such as scale effectsat the micro/nanoscale. In particular, the following aspects of porous polymers still need to be furtherstudied: micro scaled thermal radiation, heat transfer characteristics of particular morphologies at thenanoscales, heat transfer mechanism and impact factors of micro/nanoporous polymers. Such studieswould provide a more accurate prediction of thermal conductivity and a broader application in energyconversion and storage systems.
