A local-scale phase-resolving wave transformation model with CGWAVE is established in connection with a regional-scale coupled STWAVE-ADCIRC wave-current model for its application in the Half Moon Bay, Grays *** transformation from offshore to the harbor entrance is simulated by the STWAVE model which includes wave-current *** STWAVE results provide incident wave conditions for the local-scale CGWAVE model at its outer boundary. A simple method is developed to take into account the lateral variation of wave height in constructing the model’s wave boundary *** model was validated for three wave condition cases which yielded good agreement with field *** validated model was applied to predicting nearshore waves in the Half Moon Bay and longshore transport parameters along the wave breaking line for the existing condition and three engineering alternatives. A comparative analysis indicated that storm waves that have a combination of long period and large height are the most destructive to the crenulate shoreline in the Half Moon Bay; both 152 m jetty extension (Alt. 2) and diffraction mound enlargement (Alt. 3) would significantly reduce breaking wave height and longshore transport potential in the southwest corner of Half Moon Bay.

This research investigates the impact of managed health care on academic medical centers in the United States. Academic medical centers hold a unique position in the U. S. health care system through their missions of conducting cutting-edge biomedical researeh, pursuing clinical and technological innovations, Providing state-of-the-art medical care and producing highly qUalified health professionals. However, policies to control costs through the use of managed care and limiting resources are detrimental to academic medical centers and impede the advancement of medical sciTo survive the threats of managed care in the health care environment, acadendc medical centers must rely on their upper level managers to derive successful strategies. The methods used in this study include qualitative approaches in the form of key informants and case studies. In addition, a survey questionnaire was sent to 1h8 CEOs in all the academic medical centers in the U. S. The findings revealed that managers who perform the liaison, monitor, entrepreneur and resource allocator roles are crucial to ensure the survival of academic medical centers, so that academic medical centers can continue their missions to serve the general public and promote their well-being.

The Janus fabrics designed for personal moisture/thermal regulation have garnered significant attention for their potential to enhance human ***,the development of smart and dynamic fabrics capable of managing personal moisture/thermal comfort in response to changing external environments remains a ***,a smart cellulose-based Janus fabric was designed to dynamically manage personal moisture/*** cotton fabric was grafted with N-isopropylacrylamide to construct a temperature-stimulated transport ***,hydrophobic ethyl cellulose and hydrophilic cellulose nanofiber were sprayed on the bottom and top sides of the fabric to obtain wettability *** fabric exhibits anti-gravity directional liquid transportation from hydrophobic side to hydrophilic side,and can dynamically and continuously control the transportation time in a wide range of 3–66 s as the temperature increases from 10 to 40℃.This smart fabric can quickly dissipate heat at high temperatures,while at low temperatures,it can slow down the heat dissipation rate and prevent the human from becoming too *** addition,the fabric has UV shielding and photodynamic antibacterial properties through depositing graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets on the hydrophilic *** smart fabric offers an innovative approach to maximizing personal comfort in environments with significant temperature variations.

In the late 1990s, the international development banks and the international Monetary Fund (IMF) convened to outline seven international Development Goals (IDGs) to reduce poverty by 2015. These goals incorporated both the economic and social dimensions of poverty. A two thirds reduction of child mortality and a three fourths reduction of maternal mortality from rates in 1990 by 2015 are two of these seven IDGs. There is a need for better combinations of cost effective strategies to reach these challenging goals by the year 2015. This paper discusses the potential usefulness of micronutrient deficiency control programs for this purpose.

Urban natural gas is becoming the main sector driving China’s natural gas consumption growth in recent *** study explores the impacts of urban natural gas price,wage,socioeconomic determinants,and meteorological conditions on urban natural gas demand in China over ***,this study also analyzes the potential regional heterogeneity and asymmetry in the impacts of gas price and income on China’s urban gas *** results reveal that:(1)The increased gas price can significantly reduce the urban gas demand,and the average income level may effectively promote the gas demand,also,a strong switching effect exists between electricity and natural gas in urban China;(2)these impacts are heterogeneous in regions among China,urban natural gas demand is largely affected by the gas price in regions with high-gas-price and by income in regions with low-gas-price;and(3)the impact of gas price on urban gas consumption is consistent in regions with different urban natural gas consumption,while the impact of income is *** study further provides several policy implications for improving the urban natural gas industry in China.

The appearance of nuclear weapons has posed unprecedented threats of war to mankind. With joint efforts of the international community, a series of international norms and arrangements have been gradually established, mainly involving nuclear disarmament and nuclear arms control, prohibition of the use of nuclear weapons, as well as non-proliferation of nuclear arms, effectively influencing nuclear activities among sovereign states, warding off the outbreak of nuclear war, and limiting the number of nuclear states. Since the beginning of the 21 st century, the international strategic environment has undergone major changes. Mankind has entered a new age when nuclear and missile technologies have been proliferated in an accelerated way, with Iran's nuclear capability steadily growing, the DPRK obtaining nuclear weapons by successfully breaching the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and non-state actors becoming the major subjects to proliferate nuclear technology and nuclear materials. Since coming into office, Trump has thoroughly negated the policy proposition of a nuclear-free world advocated by Obama, insisting on building a powerful missile defense system, developing new forms of strategic weapons, producing low-yield nuclear warheads, and withdrawing from the Iranian nuclear ***'s policy adjustment has much weakened the nuclear taboo and the nuclear non-proliferation regime, and has initiated a new round in the race toward cutting edge nuclear weapons technology, thus undermining strategic stability among major powers, all highlighting historic limitations of the international nuclear order.

The Principle of Non-interference and its Application in Practices of Contemporary international Law

The principle of non-interference is that sovereign states shall not inter- vene in each other＇s internal affairs. It is the general principle of contemporary international law that the non-interference in each other＇s internal affairs is based on the respect for states＇ sovereignty and territorial integration, which governs the relations between states in regard to their rights and obligations. It has been estab- lished as the general principle of international law or customary law in compliance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Nevertheless, its application depends on the determination of the matter in question within the domestic juris- diction and of the applicable international laws accordingly. It was and is still controversial in practices of international law to make such determination. This article focuses on the analysis of the principle of non-interference and its relation with the determination of domestic affairs, the relation between the principle of non- interference and the R2P, as well as the recent institutional development of global protection for human rights such as the HRC related to domestic affairs.
