Glucose is a vital source of energy for all *** balance between glucose uptake,metabolism and storage determines the energy status of an individual,and perturbations in this balance can lead to metabolic *** maintenance of organismal glucose metabolism is a complex process that involves multiple tissues,including adipose tissue,which is an endocrine and energy storage organ that is critical for the regulation of systemic *** tissue consists of an array of different cell types,including specialized adipocytes and stromal and endothelial *** addition,adipose tissue harbors a wide range of immune cells that play vital roles in adipose tissue homeostasis and *** cells contribute to the regulation of systemic metabolism by modulating the inflammatory tone of adipose tissue,which is directly linked to insulin sensitivity and ***,these cells affect the control of *** lean adipose tissue is rich in type 2 and anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-10,obesity tips the balance in favor of a proinflammatory milieu,leading to the development of insulin resistance and the dysregulation of systemic ***,anti-inflammatory immune cells,including regulatory T cells and innate lymphocytes,protect against insulin resistance and have the characteristics of tissue-resident cells,while proinflammatory immune cells are recruited from the circulation to obese adipose ***,we review the key findings that have shaped our understanding of how immune cells regulate adipose tissue homeostasis to control organismal metabolism.

Dyslipidemia is a disorder where abnormally lipid concentrations circulate in the bloodstream. The disorder is common in type 2 diabetics (T2D) and is linked with T2D comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular disease. Dyslipidemia in T2D is typically characterized by elevated plasma triglyceride and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. There is a significant gap in the literature regarding dyslipidemia in rural parts of Africa, where lipid profiles may not be captured through routine surveillance. This study aimed to characterize the prevalence and demo-graphic profile of dyslipidemia in T2D in the rural community of Ganadougou, Mali. We performed a cross-sectional study of 104 subjects with T2D in Ganadougou between November 2021 and March 2022. Demographic and lipid profiles were collected through cross-sectional surveys and serological analyses. The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia in T2D patients was 87.5% (91/104), which did not differ by sex (P = .368). High low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was the most common lipid abnormality (78.9%, [82/104]). Dyslipidemia was associated with age and hypertension status (P = .013 and.036, respectively). High total and high LDL-C parameters were significantly associated with hypertension (P = .029 and .006, respectively). In low-resource settings such as rural Mali, there is a critical need to improve infrastructure for routine dyslipidemia screening to guide its prevention and intervention approaches. The high rates of dyslipidemia observed in Gandadougou, consistent with concomitant increases in cardiovascular diseases in Africa suggest that lipid profile assessments should be incorporated into routine medical care for T2D patients in African rural settings.

The presence of anticancer clerodane diterpenoids is a chemotaxonomic marker for the traditional Chinese medicinal plant Scutellaria barbata,although the molecular mechanisms behind clerodane biosynthesis are ***,we report a high-quality assembly of the 414.98 Mb genome of *** into 13 *** phylogenomic and biochemical data,we mapped the plastidial metabolism of kaurene(gibberellins),abietane,and clerodane diterpenes in three species of the family Lamiaceae(Scutellaria barbata,Scutellaria baicalensis,and Salvia splendens),facilitating the identification of genes involved in the biosynthesis of the clerodanes,kolavenol,and *** show that clerodane biosynthesis evolved through recruitment and neofunctionalization of genes from gibberellin and abietane *** the assumed monophyletic origin of clerodane biosynthesis,which is widespread in species of the Lamiaceae,our data show distinct evolutionary lineages and suggest polyphyletic origins of clerodane biosynthesis in the family *** study not only provides significant insights into the evolution of clerodane biosynthetic pathways in the mint family,Lamiaceae,but also will facilitate the production of anticancer clerodanes through future metabolic engineering efforts.

Two virtual joint centers for nitrogen agronomy were established between the UK and China to facilitate collaborative research aimed at improving nitrogen use efficiency(NUE)in agricultural production systems and reducing losses of reactive N to the *** focus areas were improving fertilizer NUE,use of livestock manures,soil health,and policy development and knowledge *** to fertilizer NUE included attention to application rate in the context of yield potential and economic considerations and the potential of improved practices including enhanced efficiency fertilizers,plastic film mulching and cropping *** utilization of livestock manures requires knowledge of the available nutrient content,appropriate manure processing technologies and integrated nutrient management *** carbon,acidification and biodiversity were considered as important aspects of soil *** centers identified a range of potential actions that could be taken to improve N management,and the research conducted has highlighted the importance of developing a systemslevel approach to assessing improvement in the overall efficiency of N management and avoiding unintended secondary effects from individual *** this context,the management of fertilizer emissions and livestock manure at the farm and regional scales appear to be particularly important targets for mitigation.

As the demand for livestock products continues to increase in China,so too does the challenge of managing increasing quantities of *** action is needed to control point source(housing,storage and processing)and diffuse(field application)pollution and improve the utilization of manure nutrients and organic ***,we review strategies to improve management at each stage of the manure management chain and at different *** strategies require infrastructure investment,e.g.,for containment of all manure *** solutions are needed to develop advanced composting systems with lower environmental footprints and design more efficient nutrient stripping *** the field-scale,there is an urgent need to develop a manure nutrient recommendation system that accounts for the range of manure types,cropping systems,soils and climates throughout *** the regional scale,coordinated planning is necessary to promote recoupling of livestock and cropping systems,and reduce nutrient accumulation in regions with little available landbank,while minimizing the risk of pollution swapping from one region to another.A range of stakeholders are needed to support the step change and innovation required to improve manure management,reduce reliance on inorganic fertilizers,and generate new business opportunities.
