On February 1, 2016, the World Health Organization declared that the cluster of microcephaly cases and other neurological disorders constitute public health emergency of international concern. Furthermore, few studies demonstrated that there was an increased evidence of causal relationship of Zika virus(ZIKAV) infection and microcephaly, birth abnormalities and neurological disorders such as Guillain–Barre′ *** transmission occurs mainly by the bite of infected mosquitos(Aedes species), but there are also reports that infections could occur via the placenta, breast milk, saliva,blood transfusion and sex. This article reviews the global efforts, progress in scientific research to understand the pathogenesis of ZIKAV infection & disease, clinical presentations, congenital transmission and autoimmune neurological disorders. The paper further explores the knowledge gaps, future priority research agenda for strategic response including vector control and prevention. We conducted a systematic literature review to synthesise available evidence on ZIKAV infection and its vector and host interaction from electronic databases.

Factors Associated with Mental Depression among Men Who Have Sex with Men in Southern India

Background: Mental health has been a largely neglected issue among Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) across the world. This study examines the prevalence and correlates of depression among MSM. Data and Methods: Data for this study are used from a cross-sectional Behavioral Tracking Survey—2012 conducted among 1176 MSM from Andhra Pradesh (undivided), a southern state of India. Depression of MSM was assessed using Patient Health Questionnaire-2 scale. Descriptive statistics, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression techniques were used for analysis. Results: More than one-third of MSMs (35%) in the survey reported to have depression. The likelihood of experiencing depression was 5 times higher among MSM who were mobile for sex work outside their place of residence (55% vs 17%, AOR: 5.2, 95% CI: 3.7 - 7.3) and had experienced physical or sexual violence (82% vs 33%, AOR: 6.0, 95% CI: 2.1 - 17.4) than their respective counterparts. Rates of depression were significantly higher among MSM who had experienced Sexually Transmitted Infections symptoms;knowledge of their hiv positivity;who didn’t use condoms during anal sex with any clients/partners;those who consumed alcohol and were in financial debt at the time of survey than others. Those who were associated with any community groups have significantly less chances of reporting depression. Discussion: The study certainly highlighted that the hiv prevention efforts with MSM in India require an integrated approach on addressing the mental health issues. To support this, programs and research-based evidence will be highly needed to ensure that mental health issues are properly addressed among MSM and other high risk groups.

Background: Late diagnosis of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (hiv) infection and delayed commencement of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in sub-Saharan Africa is known to contribute to high morbidity and mortality. It is therefore, prudent to develop innovative approaches to ensure early hiv diagnosis because patients with low immunity will usually develop opportunistic infections and seek some remedial action. A treatment and health care seeking behavior survey was carried out in semi-urban communities in Malaba and Busia in Kenya and Uganda to evaluate the treatment and healthcare seeking behavior among patients visiting randomly selected drugstores. Methodology: Random sampling was applied and questionnaires were used to collect information from 165 interviewees who visited drugstores seeking health information, treatment and other health related services. Results: The results indicated that among this group of people, 67% visited drugstores before any other health facility. 72.2% sought treatment for various illnesses and services ranging from headaches, body fever, gastro-intestinal disturbances, family planning pills, sexually transmitted infections and chronic medications. Among the patients interviewed, there were a number of factors that affected treatment choice. These included the distance to the facility as well as the absence of a consultation fee or fee for service. Conclusion: With proper support, drugstores can play a major role in the implementation of health interventions that seek to promote early diagnosis and treatment as well as play a pivotal role in educating the population on disease prevention and management. In Sub-Saharan Africa, drugstores can play a major role in hiv and aids interventions where most patients seek medical intervention for opportunistic infection.

Objective To examine hiv self-testing uptake and its determinates among men who have sex with men （MSM） in Beijing, China. Methods A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Beijing, China in 2016. Participants were users of a popular Chinese gay networking application and had an unknown or negative hiv status. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine factors associated with hiv self-testing based on adjusted odds ratio （AOR） and 95% confidence interval （CI）. Results Among the 5,996 MSM included in the study, 2,383 （39.7%） reported to have used hiv self-testing kits. Willingness to use an hiv self-test kit in the future was expressed by 92% of the participants. High monthly income （AOR = 1.49; CI = 1.10-2.02; P = 0.010）, large number of male sex partners （≥2： AOR = 1.24; CI = 2.09-1.43; P = 0.002）, sexual activity with commercial male sex partners （〉 2： AOR = 1.94; CI = 1.34 -2.82; P = 0.001）, long-term drug use （AOR = 1.42; CI = 1.23-1.62; P 〈 0.001）, and long-term hiv voluntary counseling and testing （VCT） attendance （AOR = 3.62; CI = 3.11-4.22; P 〈 0.001） were all associated with increased odds of hiv self-testing uptake. Conclusion The nearly 40% rate of hiv self-testing uptake among MSM in our sample was high. In addition, an over 90% willingness to use kits in the future was encouraging. hiv self-testing could be an important solution to help China achieve the global target of having 90% of all people living with hiv diagnosed by 2020.

Background： CD4 count is used to determine antiretroviral therapy （ART） eligibility. In China, flow cytometers are mostly located in urban areas with limited access by patients residing in remote areas. In an attempt to address this issue, we conducted a study to validate the performance ofAlere PIMA point-of-care CD4 analyzer. Methods： Venous and finger-prick blood specimens were collected from hiv-positive participants from two voluntary counseling and testing sites in Yunnan Province. Both venous and finger-prick blood specimens were tested with the PIMA analyzer. Venous blood specimens tested with the Becton Dickinson FACSCalibur were used as a reference. Results： Venous specimens from 396 and finger-prick specimens from 387 persons were available for analysis. CD4 counts by PIMA correlated well with those from FACSCalibur with an R2 of 0.91 for venous blood and 0.81 for finger-prick blood. Compared to FACSCalibur, the PIMA analyzer yielded lower counts with a mean bias of- 47.0 cells/μl （limit of agreement, [LOA]： -204-110 cells/μl） for venous blood and -71.0 cells/μl （LOA： -295-153 cells/μl） for finger-prick blood. For a CD4 threshold of 350 cells/μl, the positive predictive value （PPV） of PIMA was 84.2% and 75.7% and the negative predictive value （NPV） was 97.6% and 95.8% for venous and finger-prick blood, respectively. For an ART threshold of 500 cells/μl, the corresponding PPV was 90.3% and 84.0% and NPV was 94.3% and 93.4%, respectively. Conclusions： CD4 counting using venous blood with PIMA analyzers is a feasible alternative to a large flow cytometer to determine ART eligibility.
