A tribo-chemical view on astringency of plant-based food substances

Consumption of plant-based food products having high composition of polyphenols leads to the sensation of *** sliding oral surfaces,friction is an essential property during the oral perception of roughness and dryness which are attributes associated with *** factors including the chemical composition of interacting layers,structure and operation of interfaces have an effect on the astringency development *** manner of interactions occurring at oral interfaces suggest there is a system dependence of astringency and highlights the importance of adopting a tribosystems *** measurement techniques have shown an existing relationship between salivary protein-polyphenol interaction and an astringent ***,the tribo-chemistry involved in this multifaceted sensation remains largely unexplored in a comprehensive *** this review the underlying tribo-chemical processes useful in understanding the mechanism of astringency are highlighted and discussed considering current techniques employed to investigate astringency *** of lubrication on oral surfaces owing to the tribo-chemical interactions involving saliva and astringent plant proteins requires subsequent deformations of oral tissues which are significant enough to induce strains at mechanoreceptor locations,leading to the sensation of *** is proposed that micro-scale contact modelling on the interaction of food particles/aggregates,boundary layers and oral surfaces shows potential in addressing the knowledge gap between tribo-chemical measurement techniques and panel tests,making it possible to attain a predictor for astringency.

Minimizing carbon deposition in plasma-induced methane coupling with structured hydrogenation catalysts

The effect of temperature and hydrogen addition on undesired carbonaceous deposit formation during methane coupling was studied in DbD-plasma catalytic-wall reactors with Pd/Al2 O3, using electrical power to drive the *** with thin catalyst layers allowed comparison of the performance of empty reactors and catalytic wall reactors without significantly influencing the plasma *** product distribution varies strongly in the temperature window between 25 and 200℃Minimal formation of deposits is found at an optimal temperature around 75℃ in the catalytic-wall *** selectivity to deposits was c.a.10% with only 9 mg of catalyst loading instead of 45% in the blank reactor,while decreasing methane conversion only ***-feeding H2 to an empty reactor causes a similar decrease in selectivity to deposits,but in this case methane conversion also decreased *** of deposits formation in the catalytic-wall reactor at 75℃ is due to catalytic hydrogenation of mainly acetylene to *** the empty reactor,H2 co-feed decreases conversion but does not change the product *** catalytic-wall reactors can be regenerated with H2-plasma at room temperature,which produces more added-value hydrocarbons.

The performances of the Color-Gradient(CG)and the Shan-Chen(SC)multicomponent Lattice boltzmann models are quantitatively compared side-by-side on multiple physical flow problems where breakup,coalescence and contraction of fluid ligaments are *** flow problems are relevant to microfluidic applications,jetting of microdroplets as seen in inkjet printing,as well as emulsion dynamics.A significantly wider range of parameters is shown to be accessible for CG in terms of density-ratio,viscosity-ratio and surface tension *** stability for a high density ratio O(1000)is required for simulating the drop formation process during inkjet printing which we show here to be achievable using the CG model but not using the SC *** results show that the CG model is a suitable choice for challenging simulations of droplet formation,due to a combination of both numerical stability and physical *** also present a novel approach to incorporate repulsion forces between interfaces for CG,with possible applications to the study of stabilized ***,we show that the CG model can produce similar results to a known multirange potentials extension of the SC model for modelling a disjoining pressure,opening up its use for the study of dense stabilized emulsions.

Excessive release of neutrophil extracellular traps(NETs)is associated with disease severity and contributes to tissue injury,followed by severe organ *** or genetic inhibition of NET release reduces pathology in multiple inflammatory disease models,indicating that NETs are potential therapeutic ***,we demonstrate using a preclinical basket approach that our therapeutic anti-citrullinated protein antibody(tACPA)has broad therapeutic *** with tACPA prevents disease symptoms in various mouse models with plausible NET-mediated pathology,including inflammatory arthritis(IA),pulmonary fibrosis,inflammatory bowel disease and *** show that citrulline residues in the N-termini of histones 2A and 4 are specific targets for therapeutic intervention,whereas antibodies against other N-terminal post-translational histone modifications have no therapeutic *** citrullinated histones are generated during NET release,we investigated the ability of tACPA to inhibit NET *** suppressed NET release from human neutrophils triggered with physiologically relevant human disease-related ***,tACPA diminished NET release and potentially initiated NET uptake by macrophages in vivo,which was associated with reduced tissue damage in the joints of a chronic arthritis mouse model of *** our knowledge,we are the first to describe an antibody with NET-inhibiting properties and thereby propose tACPA as a drug candidate for NET-mediated inflammatory diseases,as it eliminates the noxious triggers that lead to continued inflammation and tissue damage in a multidimensional manner.

Timing jitter is one of the main factors that influence on the accuracy of time domain precision measurement. Timing jitter compensation is one of the problems people concern. because of the flaws of median method, PDF deconvolution method and synthetic method, we put forward a new method for timing jitter compensation, which is called advanced median method. The theory of the advanced median method based on probability and statistics is analyzed, and the process of the advanced median method is summarized in this paper. Simulation and experiment show that compared with other methods, the new method could compensate timing jitter effectively.

＜正＞ The experiment was conducted in the green house of Wageningen in the Netherlands in order to determine the Minimum Lethal Herbicide Dosage （MLHD） of photosynthesis inhibiting herbicide, bentazone, on six weed species with Plant Photosynthetic Meter （PPM）.The results showed that the diagnostics of weed caused by bentazone could be observed 2 days after application and weed growth was inhibited later on. both PPM values of weed leaves and weed biomass （shoot fresh weight） decreased as herbicide dosage increasing. However, the susceptibility of weed species to bentazone was different among weed species. Solanum nigrum, Polygonum per sicaria , and Amaranthus retro flexus were very susceptible to bentazone. Abutilon theo phrasti and Chenopodium album were relatively less susceptible to the herbicide, and Lycopersicon esculentum was not susceptible to it. The relationship between reduction rates of weed biomass and PPM values of weed leaves 2,4, and 6 days after treatment was established and close relation between reduction rates of weed biomass and PPM values 4 days after treatment was found with the coefficient of determination of 0. 906 5. It concluded that PPM values of weed leaves after treatment could predict weed control efficacy and could help to calculate MLHD. PPM value 4 days after treatment was the best prediction of MLHD of bentazone.

2-D delineation of individual citrus trees from UAv-based dense photogrammetric surface models

One of the challenges of remote sensing and computer vision lies in the three-dimensional(3-D)reconstruction of individual trees by using automated methods through very high-resolution(vHR)data ***,a successful and complete 3-D reconstruction relies on precise delineation of the trees in two *** this paper,we present an original approach to detect and delineate citrus trees using unmanned aerial vehicles based on photogrammetric digital surface models(DSMs).The symmetry of the citrus trees in a DSM is handled by an orientationbased radial symmetry transform which is computed in a unique ***,we propose an efficient strategy to accurately build influence regions of each tree,and then we delineate individual citrus trees through active contours by taking into account the influence region of each *** also present two efficient strategies to filter out erroneously detected canopy regions without having any height *** are carried out on eight test DSMs composed of different types of citrus orchards with varying densities and canopy *** comparisons to the state-of-the-art approaches reveal that our proposed approach provides superior detection and delineation performances through supporting a nice balance between precision and recall measures.

The outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy without endotamponade for tractional retinal detachment secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy

AIM:To evaluate the outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy(PPv) without the use of an ocular tamponade in patients having tractional retinal detachment(TRD) secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).METHODS:It was an interventional study conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology,***,bahawalpur,Pakistan,from July 2011 to July 2012.A total of 75 patients(84 eyes) having TRD secondary to PDR were treated by PPv without using an ocular *** patients included in the study had a tractional retinal detachement secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy but didn’t have or develop retinal breaks before or during the study *** surgical procedure included a PPv combined with the removal of the tractional retinal membranes and the application of endolaser photocoagulation to the *** mean follow-up period was 12 months. RESULTS:Successful retinal reattachement was observed in 78 of the operated eyes(92.8%).In these patients,the retina remained attached till the end of the one year follow-up *** in best corrected visual acuity(b.v.) was seen in 63 eyes(75%).The visual acuity remained unchanged in 9 eyes(10.7%).Mean improvement in b.v. was 2.00 +1.24 at baseline to 1.24+1.22(Pbsence of the retinal breaks,a TRD secondary to PDR can be successfully treated by pars plana vitrectomy without the use of an ocular tamponade.
