Atlantic Meridional overturning Circulation(AMoC)plays a central role in long-term climate variations through its heat and freshwater transports,which can collapse under a rapid increase of greenhouse gas forcing in climate *** studies have suggested that the deviation of model parameters is one of the major factors in inducing inaccurate AMoC *** this work,with a low-resolution earth system model,the authors try to explore whether a reasonable adjustment of the key model parameter can help to re-establish the AMoC after its *** a new optimization strategy,the extra freshwater flux(fWf)parameter is determined to be the dominant one affecting the AMoC’s *** traditional ensemble optimal interpolation(EnoI)data assimilation and new machine learning methods are adopted to optimize the fWf parameter in an abrupt 4×Co_(2) forcing experiment to improve the adaptability of model parameters and accelerate the recovery of *** results show that,under an abrupt 4×Co_(2) forcing in millennial simulations,the AMoC will first collapse and then re-establish by the default fWf parameter ***,during the parameter adjustment process,the saltier and colder sea water over the North Atlantic region are the dominant factors in usefully improving the adaptability of the fWf parameter and accelerating the recovery of AMoC,according to their physical relationship with fWf on the interdecadal timescale.

Genes and proteins expressed at different life cycle stages in the model protist Euplotes vannus revealed by both transcriptomic and proteomic approaches

Sexual reproduction first appeared in unicellular protists and has continued to be an essential biological process in almost all *** protists, which contain both germline and somatic genomes within a single cell, have evolved a special form of sexual reproduction called conjugation that involves mitosis, meiosis, fertilization, nuclear differentiation, genome rearrangement, and the development of unique cellular structures. The molecular basis and mechanisms of conjugation vary dramatically among ciliates, and many details of the process and its regulation are still largely unknown. In order to better comprehend these processes and mechanisms from an evolutionary perspective, this study provides the first comprehensive overview of the transcriptome and proteome profiles during the entire life cycle of the newly-established marine model ciliate Euplotes vannus. Transcriptome analyses from 14 life cycle stages(three vegetative stages and 11 sexual stages) revealed over 26,000 genes that are specifically expressed at different stages, many of which are related to DNA replication,transcription, translation, mitosis, meiosis, nuclear differentiation, and/or genome rearrangement. Quantitative proteomic analyses identified 338 proteins with homologs associated with conjugation and/or somatic nuclear development in other ciliates, including dicer-like proteins, Hsp90 proteins, RNA polymerase Ⅱ and transcription elongation factors, ribosomal-associated proteins, and ubiquitin-related proteins. four of these homologs belong to the PIWI family, each with different expression patterns identified and confirmed by RT-qPCR,which may function in small RNA-mediated genome rearrangement. Proteins involved in the nonhomologous end-joining pathway are induced early during meiosis and accumulate in the developing new somatic nucleus, where more than 80% of the germline sequences are eliminated from the somatic genome. Statistical characteristics and classification of ionospheric mid-latitude trough as revealed by the observations of DMSP-f18

Lattice Dynamical Simulation of Guest-Host Interaction in N2 Clathrate Hydrate

We perform the lattice dynamical simulation studies of hydrate host lattice interacting with Xe, Ar, and N2 atoms/molecules. The calculated results show that the well-defined peaks （2.0meV and 3.8meV） and another peak （6.2 me V） are assigned to the vibrations of N2 molecules in large and small cages, respectively. It is confirmed that the double N2 molecule occupancies of large cage lead to filling of the mode gap between the small cage and the large cage.

Experimental and numerical study of regular waves past a submerged breakwater

Laboratory experiments are performed to investigate the hydrodynamics around a submerged breakwater due to regular incident waves. With an in-house code, a constrained interpolation profile (CIP)-based model is employed to simulate this process. The model is built on a Cartesian grid system with the Navier-Stokes equations using a CIP method for the flow solver and an immersed boundary method (IBM) is used for the treatment of the solid body boundary. A more accurate interface capturing scheme, the tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing/slope weighting (THINC/SW) scheme, is used to track the free surface. The numerical results are compared with experimental data. Reasonably good agreement is achieved in terms of the wave profiles at six measuring stations, the flow velocities at three different space locations and the pressures of eight points on the surface of the submerged breakwater. Moreover, the water mass transfer over the breakwater is discussed using a two-phase Vof model and the wave spectrum is also presented for analysis. It is indicated that the present model can accurately predict the hydrodynamic characteristics of the wave over a submerged bar. furthermore, the experimental data in the present work can provide reliable basic data, including the wave transformations, the velocities and the dynamic pressures, for the validation of other CfD models.

Zinc-ion hybrid capacitors （ZIHCs） have received increasing attention as energy storage devices owing to their low cost,high safety,and environmental ***,their progress has been hampered by low energy and power density,as well as unsatisfactory long-cycle stability,mainly due to the lack of suitable electrode *** this context,we have developed manganese single atoms implanted in nitrogen-doped porous carbon nanosheets （MnSAs/NCNs） using a metal salt template method as cathodes for *** metal salt serves a dual purpose in the synthesis process:It facilitates the uniform dispersion of Mn atoms within the carbon matrix and acts as an activating agent to create the porous *** applied in ZIHCs,the MnSAs/NCNs electrode demonstrates exceptional performance,including a high capacity of 203 m Ah g-1,an energy density of 138 Wh kg-1at 68 W kg-1,and excellent cycle stability with 91%retention over 10,000 *** calculations indicate that the introduced Mn atoms modulate the local charge distribution of carbon materials,thereby improving the electrochemical *** work demonstrates the significant potential of carbon materials with metal atoms in zinc-ion hybrid capacitors,not only in enhancing electrochemical performance but also in providing new insights and methods for developing high-performance energy storage devices.

Attitudes of young scholars in Qingdao and Hamburg about climate changeand climate policy The role of culture for the explanation of differences

This article analyses differences in the attitudes related to climate change of young scholars in environmental science in Qingdao (china) and Hamburg (Germany). The main aim of the article is to evaluate the role of cultural differences for their explanation. We expect no significant differences in the attitudes related to the findings of climate research, since scientific principles are the joint basis of the scientific discourse wordwide. However, we expect that there are differences in the attitudes of the young scholars about the role of science, of the state and of the civil society for dealing with the challenge of climate change. We suggest that these can be explained with substantial cultural differences between both societies, with regard to the role of the state and the civil society for the solution of environmental problems. In order to evaluate these hypotheses, we have conducted a comparative survey among environmental science students in Qingdao (china) and Hamburg (Germany) about their attitudes towards climate change. The findings support our main hypotheses. The young scholars in Qingdao and Hamburg differ substantially in their views of the role of science in society and policymaking. Plausibly, these differences may mainly be explained with differences in the cultural ideas about the role of the state and of the civil society for the solution of environmental problems. Gradual differences in the share of young scholars who think that climate change has anthropogenic causes, may be explained with differences in the curriculum but also by cultural habits. This article makes a new contribution to the scientific debate by exploring the role of cultural differences for differences in the attitudes of young scholars in environmental science in connection with climate change and climate policy in different cultural contexts.

Microwave Doppler spectra of sea return at small incidence angles:specular point scattering contribution

It is well known that the sea return echo contains contributions from at least two scattering mechanisms. In addition to the resonant Bragg scattering, the specular point scattering plays an important role as the incidence angle becomes smaller （≥ 20°）. Here, in combination with the Kirchhoff integral equation of scattering field and the stationary phase approximation, analytical expressions for Doppler shift and spectral bandwidth of specular point scattering, which are insensitive to the polarization state, are derived theoretically. for comparison, the simulated results related to the two-scale method （TSM） and the method of moment （MoM） are also presented. It is found that the Doppler shift and the spectral bandwidth given by TSM are insufficient at small incidence angles. However, a comparison between the analytical results and the numerical simulations by MoM in the backscatter configuration shows that our proposed formulas are valid for the specular point scattering case. In this work, the dependences of the predicted results on incidence angle, radar frequency, and wind speed are also discussed. The obtained conclusions seem promising for a better understanding of the Doppler spectra of the specular point scattering fields from time-varying sea surfaces.

Effects of Rotor Solidity on the Performance of Impulse Turbine for oWC Wave Energy Converter

Impulse turbine, working as a typical self-rectifying turbine, is recently utilized for the oscillating water column（oWC） wave energy converters, which can rotate in the same direction under the bi-directional air flows. A numerical model established in fluent is validated by the corresponding experimental results. The flow fields, pressure distribution and dimensionless evaluating coefficients can be calculated and analyzed. Effects of the rotor solidity varying with the change of blade number are investigated and the suitable solidity value is recommended for different flow coefficients.
