Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in occlusive vascular diseases： the literature review of the past 10 years

BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the results of studies investigating neutrophilto-lymphocyte ratio(NLR) and to identify the prognostic and diagnostic value of NLR in occlusive vascular ***: With the aim of identifying the studies related to NLR, a search was performed on http://***/pubmed by using the key words "neutrophil lymphocyte ratio" between January 2005 and December 2014. All of the original articles were evaluated according to date of publications, countries, clinics and topics. Studies about occlusive vascular diseases were evaluated according to their qualifications, review methods and results. SPSS for Windows 16.0 was used in data analysis and data were expressed as mean, standard deviation and ***: A total of 735 original research articles were investigated. The number of publications have shown a regular logarithmic increase over the years. Thirty-two percent of all publications were performed by clinics in Turkey and 56.4% were performed by general-oncological surgery and cardiology clinics. A total of 107 publications were identified to be about occlusive vascular diseases, 80.3% of these publications were found to be prognostic and 19.6% to be diagnostic, 82.2% of them were found to be planned as retrospective and 17.7% as prospective. In 95.3% of prognostic publications, there was a positive correlation between high NLR values at admission and poor prognosis. In 95.3% of diagnostic publications high NLR values at admission were identifi ed to be signifi cant ***: Elevated neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio at admission, could be used as a diagnostic and/or prognostic parameter in occlusive vascular diseases.

The Perception of health Workers and Stakeholders Involved in the Process of Selecting Indigent in Burkina Faso

Background: Indigent selected for their health care is complex and poses enormous challenges. The actors involved have an influence on health actions and their perception is decisive for better care for the indigent. Little evidence exists on these perceptions and this paper has captured this. Methods: A case study involved 163 participants with a questionnaire and an interview guide. The quantitative responses were classified according to a measurement scale, proportions and overall indices of perception (Ip) and satisfaction (CSAT) were calculated. The relationship between variables was investigated using chi-square. Thematic analysis was used with qualitative data. The study met ethical requirements. Results: The participants had a positive perception of the selection: Ip = 0.77, but a minority (1/5) were dissatisfied with the selection. The perception of selection did not differ significantly depending on the experience of the actors. For the vast majority, the definition of indigent was satisfactory (CSAT = 91.4). The selection was done in a top down fashion and steps such as setting up committees, informing stakeholders, had shortcomings which negatively impacted the effectiveness of the selection. The needs of the participants included transparency in the indigent select process, matching the tools for selecting the indigent to the context, strengthening of local action, deconstruction of prejudices in terms of the indigent, power of actors to act, and importance for health services to reach out to the indigent. AIM: To determine the association between the neutrophil to lymphocyte(N/L) ratio and the degree of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB) infection. METHODS: Between December 2011 and February 2013, 129 consecutive CHB patients who were admitted to the study hospitals for histological evaluation of chronic hepatitis B-related liver fibrosis were included in this retrospective study. The patients were divided into two groups based on the fibrosis score: individuals with a fibrosis score of F0 or F1 were included in the "no/minimal liver fibrosis" group, whereas patients with a fibrosis score of F2, F3, or F4 were included in the "advanced liver fibrosis" group. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences 18.0 for Windows was used to analyze the data. A P value of research suggests that the N/L ratio can be used as a novel noninvasive marker of fibrosis in patients with CHB.

Gossypiboma is the technical term for a retained surgical sponge. Because of legal-ethical concerns, there have not been many publications on this topic. Delays in diagnosis and treatment might increase mortality and morbidity. Radiological imaging is used in diagnosis. We present a case of gossypiboma that had fistulized to bulbous following hydatic cyst surgery. We established the diagnosis with endoscopy and followed its migration endoscopically.

The production of ultra-low sulfur clean fuels holds global significance for improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental pollution. Photocatalytic aerobic oxidative desulfurization（PODS） offers an attractive approach to efficiently remove refractory heterocyclic aromatic sulfur compounds under mild conditions. However, the sluggish charge dynamics,insufficient molecule activation, and slow mass transfer within photocatalysts restrict the overall desulfurization efficiency,hindering the widespread application of this technology. Herein, we developed a defective g-C3N4（M1U3CN） photocatalyst with bridged N3Cvacancies and hierarchical porous structures to address these limitations. This catalyst not only demonstrates outstanding dibenzothiophene（DBT） removal efficiency of 99.6% for model oil with high conversion and selectivity but also achieves complete sulfur removal from gasoline as well as 96.7% sulfur removal for distilled diesel at room temperature,successfully achieving ultradeep aerobic oxidative desulfurization. The introduction of rich N3Cvacancies and abundant micromeso-macroporous distribution in M1U3CN enhances kinetic efficiencies by promoting charge carrier separation, mass transfer,and molecular activation simultaneously; resulting in exceptional PODS performance. This work provides a collaborative strategy to overcome kinetic challenges in aerobic oxidative desulfurization via defect and structural engineering of the catalyst.

Acute Coronary Syndromes: Epidemiological, Clinical and Management Aspects in Thies (Senegal)

Purpose: To describe the epidemiological, clinical and management characteristics of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) in Thies, Senegal. Methods: This was a prospective study that included consecutively from October 1st, 2018 to March 03rd, 2019, patients aged 18 years or older admitted for an ACS at the DIABCARMET department of the Saint Jean de Dieu Hospital in Thies. Results: Of the 516 patients admitted, 29 had ACS, the prevalence was 5.62%. The average age of the patients was 64.2 ± 11.6 years. Nineteen patients (65.5%) were male and 10 (34.5%) were female, the sex ratio was 1.91. The number of direct admissions was 18 (62%) versus 11 patients (38%) referred. The mode of transport was a private vehicle in 19 patients (65.5%), an ambulance in 7 patients (24.1%) and public transport in 3 patients (10.3%). STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) was the most common presentation observed in 19 patients (65.5%). Fifteen patients (51.7%) were admitted before the 12th hour. Of the 19 patients with STEMI, 11 (57.9%) had arrived in hospital before the 12th hour and 10 patients had streptokinase thrombolysis. No patients received primary PCI. Ten patients (34.5%) had heart failure and five patients (17.2%) died during hospitalization. Conclusion: Delayed consultation and high mortality characterize ACS in Thies. Prevention must be the rule.
