A socioeconomic approach to the profile of microcredit holders from the Hispanic minority in the USA

The subject of this study is the microcredit market in the USA,more specifically in Florida.The justification for choosing this specific state is the massive presence of the Hispanic population.This will facilitate a generalization of the obtained results to the microcredit market in Latin American countries.Thus,the objective of this study is to analyze the profile of microcredit holders and their companies from socioeconomic and financial points of view.As our data also consider the degree of repayment of the microloans included in the sample,the clients’profile is related to the punctuality or default of their corresponding loan repayments using the methodology of multi-nomial logit regression.The variables used in this study refer to personal information concerning borrowers(gender,age,education level,and marital status),the economic situation of their respective companies(closeness to the lender,number of workers,and revenues),and the characteristics of granted loans(principal,term,and purpose).However,the results of the regression show that only two variables are significant at the 5%significance level:the borrower’s age,which has a positive effect on repay-ment punctuality,and the loan term,which exhibits a negative effect.The findings of this study have clear implications,as they can help lenders design suitable microloans adjusted to customer profiles.Finally,future research should include other demograph-ics and characteristics of affected companies.

Engineering Nano/Microscale Chiral Self‑Assembly in 3D Printed Constructs

Helical hierarchy found in biomolecules like cellulose,chitin,and collagen underpins the remarkable mechanical strength and vibrant colors observed in living organisms.This study advances the integration of helical/chiral assembly and 3D printing technology,providing precise spatial control over chiral nano/microstructures of rod-shaped colloidal nanoparticles in intricate geometries.We designed reactive chiral inks based on cellulose nanocrystal(CNC)suspensions and acrylamide monomers,enabling the chiral assembly at nano/microscale,beyond the resolution seen in printed materials.We employed a range of complementary techniques including Orthogonal Superposition rheometry and in situ rheo-optic measurements under steady shear rate conditions.These techniques help us to understand the nature of the nonlinear flow behavior of the chiral inks,and directly probe the flow-induced microstructural dynamics and phase transitions at constant shear rates,as well as their post-flow relaxation.Furthermore,we analyzed the photo-curing process to identify key parameters affecting gelation kinetics and structural integrity of the printed object within the supporting bath.These insights into the interplay between the chiral inks self-assembly dynamics,3D printing flow kinematics and photopolymerization kinetics provide a roadmap to direct the out-of-equilibrium arrangement of CNC particles in the 3D printed filaments,ranging from uniform nematic to 3D concentric chiral structures with controlled pitch length,as well as random orientation of chiral domains.our biomimetic approach can pave the way for the creation of materials with superior mechanical properties or programable photonic responses that arise from 3D nano/microstructure and can be translated into larger scale 3D printed designs.

Schwann cells are essential for the maintenance and function of motor neurons,axonal networks,and the neuromuscular junction.In amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,where motor neuron function is progressively lost,Schwann cell function may also be impaired.Recently,important signaling and potential trophic activities of Schwann cell-derived exosomal vesicles have been reported.This case report describes the treatment of a patient with advanced amyotrophic lateral sclerosis using serial intravenous infusions of allogeneic Schwann cell-derived exosomal vesicles,marking,to our knowledge,the first instance of such treatment.An 81-year-old male patient presented with a 1.5-year history of rapidly progressive amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.After initial diagnosis,the patient underwent a combination of generic riluzole,sodium phenylbutyrate for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,and taurursodiol.The patient volunteered to participate in an FDA-approved single-patient expanded access treatment and received weekly intravenous infusions of allogeneic Schwann cell-derived exosomal vesicles to potentially restore impaired Schwann cell and motor neuron function.We confirmed that cultured Schwann cells obtained from the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patient via sural nerve biopsy appeared impaired(senescent)and that exposure of the patient’s Schwann cells to allogeneic Schwann cell-derived exosomal vesicles,cultured expanded from a cadaver donor improved their growth capacity in vitro.After a period of observation lasting 10 weeks,during which amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Functional Rating Scale-Revised and pulmonary function were regularly monitored,the patient received weekly consecutive infusions of 1.54×1012(×2),and then consecutive infusions of 7.5×1012(×6)allogeneic Schwann cell-derived exosomal vesicles diluted in 40 mL of Dulbecco’s phosphate-buffered saline.None of the infusions were associated with adverse events such as infusion reactions(allergic or otherwise)or changes in vital signs.Clinical lab serum neuro

Study of methods for endpoint aware inspection in a next generation firewall

Given the global increase in remote work with the COVID-19 pandemic and deperimeterization due to cloud deployment of next generation frewalls,the concept of a next generation firewall is at a breaking point.It is becoming more dificult to define the barrier between the good and the bad.To provide the best security for an endpoint with minimal false positives or false negatives it is often necessary to identify the communicating endpoint application.n this study,we present an analysis of key research and methods for providing endpoint aware protection in the context of a next generation frewall We examine both academic research as well as state-of-the-art of the existing next generation firewall implementations.We divide endpoint application identification into passive and active methods.For passive endpoint application identification,we study several traffc fingerprinting methods for different protocols.For active methods we consider active scanning,endpoint metadata analysis and content injection and reference existing implementations.We conclude that there are several open areas for future research,and that none of the considered methods is a silver bullet solution for endpoint aware inspection in the context of a next generation firewall.To our best knowledge,this is the first study to examine current research and existing implementations of endpoint aware inspection.

Investigation of the influences of asphaltene deposition on oilfield development using reservoir simulation

This paper investigates the deposition of asphaltenes in the porous medium of the studied field in Russia and predicts production profiles based on uncertainty evaluation. This problem can be solved by dynamic modeling, during which production profiles are estimated in two scenarios: with and without the activation of the asphaltene option. Calculations are carried out for two development scenarios: field operation under natural depletion and water injection into the aquifer as a reservoir pressure maintenance system. A full-scale compositional reservoir simulation model of the Russian oilfield was created. Within a dynamic simulation, the asphaltene option was activated and the asphaltene behavior in oil and porous medium was tuned according to our own special laboratory experiments. The model was also matched to production historical data, and a pattern model was prepared using the full-scale simulation model. Technological and the asphaltene option parameters were used in sensitivity and an uncertainty evaluation. Furthermore, probable production profiles within a forecast period were estimated. The sensitivity analysis of the pattern model to input parameters of the asphaltene option allowed determining the following heavy-hitters on the objective function: the molar weight of dissolved asphaltenes as a function of pressure, the asphaltene dissociation rate, the asphaltene adsorption coefficient and the critical velocity of oil movement in the reservoir. Under the natural depletion scenario, our simulations show a significant decrease in reservoir pressure and the formation of drawdown cones leading to asphaltene deposition in the bottom-hole area of production wells, decreasing their productivity. Water injection generally allows us to significantly reduce the volume of asphaltene phase transitions and has a positive effect on cumulative oil production. BACKGROUND Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency(OTCD)is a common ornithine cycle disorder,and OTC gene variation is the main pathogenic factor of this disease.This study explored and validated a variant in the OTC gene.CASE SUMMARY The neonate exhibited high blood ammonia,lactic acid,and homocysteine levels on the fifth day after birth.A novel deletion variant in the OTC gene[NM_000531.5,c.970_979delTTCCCAGAGG,p.Phe324GlnfsTer16]was uncovered by exome sequencing.The variant caused a protein-coding frameshift and resulted in early translation termination at the 16th amino acid after the variant site.CONCLUSION our results provide a novel pathogenic variant in OTC and related clinical features for further OTCD screening and clinical consultation.

Serological Investigation of COVID-19 Antibodies in Armenia

Background: In December 2019 in Wuhan China the new coronavirus outbreak emerged and quickly spread in all parts of the world resulting to more than 500,000,000 infection cases and around 6,200,000 deaths. The global incidence of the infection is still growing as well as number of deaths. COVID-19 is a new virus, therefore not much is known about the immune response of infected organism, which is crucial not only for vaccination policy development, but also for identification of public health strategies. Aim: Current research aims to describe COVID-19 IgG levels depending on symptoms, antibiotic and antiviral medications intake history, existing chronic condition and smoking status during March-December of 2020 in Armenia. Furthermore, the study aims to help elucidate the fraction of asymptomatic or presymptomatic/sub- clinical infections in the population and understand the main risk factors for infection complication. Methodology: The cross-sectional study with convenience sampling of individuals who turned to “EcoSense” laboratories to be tested for COVID-19 IgG were examined. The NovaTec SARS-CoC-2 (COVID-19) IgG COVG940 96 Determinations ELISA test kits were used. The questionnaire was filled regarding the COVID-19 status, symptoms, exposure history, disease history, pre-existing chronic conditions, medication and vaccination history. The descriptive as well as multivariate analysis was performed. Results: Overall 1573 testing was performed 837 of subjects agreed to participate in the interview. 24.1% of participants had laboratory confirmed COVID-19 but by the time of interview were already recovered. 212 (25.3%) participants had positive IgG levels, among 126 (15.1%) participants IgG levels were in the grey zone. Out of PCR confirmed cases only 58.7% had positive IgG levels and 3.9% IgG level was in the grey zone. Reduced Smoothened level rescues Aβ-induced memory deficits and neuronal inflammation in animal models of Alzheimer's disease

Emerging evidence suggests that neuro-inflammation begins early and drives the pathogenesis of Alzheimer＇s disease （AD）, and anti-inflammatory therapies are under clinical development. However, several anti-inflammatory compounds failed to improve memory in clinical trials, indicating that reducing inflammation alone might not be enough. On the other hand, neuro-inflammation is implicated in a number of mental disorders which share the same therapeutic targets. Based on these observations, we screened a batch of genes related with mental disorder and neuro-inflammation in a classical olfactory conditioning in an amyloid beta （Aβ） overexpression fly model. A Smoothened （SMO） mutant was identified as a genetic modifier of Aβ toxicity in 3-min memory and downregulation of SMO rescued Aβ- induced 3-min and 1-h memory deficiency. Also, Aβ activated innate inflammatory response in fly by increasing the expression of antimicrobial peptides, which were alleviated by downregulating SMO. Furthermore, pharmaceutical administration of a SMO antagonist LDE rescued Aβ-induced upregulation of SMO in astrocytes of mouse hippocampus, improved memory in Morris water maze （MWM）, and reduced expression ofastrocyte secreting pro-inflammatory factors IL-1β, TNFα and the microglia marker IBA-1 in an APP/PS1 transgenic mouse model. our study suggests that SMO is an important conserved modulator of Aβ toxicity in both flv and mouse models of AD.

Association of Serum Ferritin Levels and Thyroid Hormones

Thyroid metabolism is orchestrated by the action of various minerals and trace elements including iron, iodine, selenium, and zinc. Iron deficiency, specifically deficiency in serum ferritin levels, is one of the common causes of thyroid dysfunction. our objective was to evaluate the relationship between serum ferritin levels and circulating thyroid hormones. For this, a retrospective analysis was performed on 16,512 individuals who tested for serum levels of ferritin and thyroid profile at Vibrant America Clinical Laboratories. Subjects were stratified based on the serum levels of ferritin. Age (p −0.03232, p < 0.0001). Analysis of Linear association by Pearson’s correlation exhibited a considerable correlation between varying serum ferritin levels with all tested thyroid hormones. The study concludes that serum ferritin levels were associated with thyroid hormone synthesis and metabolism in individuals with optimal levels of circulating ferritin.

An Experimental Methodology for Storm Mitigation

There are many theoretical explanations for the mitigation of tornados, storms, and hurricanes and one or two known simulation models that address the reduction of the intensities of these forces. We introduce an innovative methodology that releases environmentally friendly aerosol particles responsible for cloud condensation and weakens the intensities of these forces. For the past nine years, we did several experiments and analyzed the results. Experimental results give evidence to this methodology is practical, environment-friendly, cost-effective, and consistent. In this paper, we described our experiments along with results in three different scenarios such as tornado (March 2021, Georgia USA), storm Claudette (June 2021, Georgia USA), and hurricane Elsa (July 2021, Florida USA). our experimental outcome and subsequent relevant meteorology data support the reason for mitigating the intensity of these destructive forces in and around the experiment locations.
