Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Congolese Women in Kinshasa on Breast Cancer

Context: Breast cancer is a high-mortality disease. Early detection has considerably reduced mortality in developed countries. Objectives: To assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of Congolese women in Kinshasa on breast cancer, their levels and to identify factors associated with insufficient knowledge, negative attitudes and non-beneficial practices. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with analytical aims, carried out from June 1 to September 30, 2023, in Kinshasa. It involved 1170 female respondents, aged 18 to 65, who agreed to take part in the survey. Data were collected using a pre-established questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 20.0. The study variables were socio-demographics, morbid history, knowledge, attitudes and practices of respondents regarding breast cancer. Statistical measures and tests used were Mean ± standard deviation, median, proportions, logistic regression Backward stepwise and p Results: 60% had insufficient knowledge, 75% had negative attitudes and 80% had non-beneficial practices. The risk factors common to insufficient knowledge, negative attitudes and non-beneficial practices towards breast cancer were low level of education, membership of revivalist or Muslim churches, and primiparity. Conclusion: 60% of Congolese women in Kinshasa have insufficient knowledge about breast cancer, 75% have negative attitudes and 80% have non-beneficial practices, with a positive association between insufficient knowledge and negative attitudes on the one hand, and insufficient knowledge and non-beneficial practices on the other. In this context, increasing the population’s literacy and access to information are essential.

Splenic hamartomas(SHs)are uncommon,benign vascular lesions of unclear etiology and are mostly found incidentally on abdominal images,at surgery,or at *** the first case description,in 1861,less than 50 pediatric SH cases have been reported in the *** this article,we have performed an analysis of all SH cases in childr.n published in the literature to date and presented our case of an 8-year-old male with *** lesions in childr.n were shown to cause symptoms more often than in the adult *** observed SH sizes in childr.n ranged from a few millimeters to 18 cm,and the symptomatic lesions were mostly larger or *** most common clinical finding was *** of hypersplenism were present in childr.n with a single SH larger than 4.5 cm(diameter range:4.5-18.0 cm)and in those with multiple hamartomas,ranging from a few millimeters to 5 *** percent of patients with available laboratory findings had hematological abnormalities such as anemia,thrombocytopenia,or *** symptoms and signs included abdominal pain,recurrent infections,fever,night sweats,lethargy,growth retardation,and weight *** use of multiple imaging modalities may suggest the preoperative diagnosis of a splenic mass in childr.n and determine the therapeutic ***,the final diagnosis of SH relies on histopathological ***,including total or partial splenectomy(PS),is the mainstay of SH *** M et *** in childr.n WJCC https://*** 1910 April 16,2024 Volume 12 Issue 11 Although total splenectomy carries a greater risk of overwhelming post-splenectomy infection than PS it has remained the most performed surgical procedure in childr.n with *** the majority of pediatric patients with symptomatic SH,resolution of symptoms and resolution or improvement of cytopenias occurred after surgical treatment.

The earliest land plants faced a suite of abiotic stresses largely unknown to their aquatic algal ancestors. The descendants of these plants evolved two general mechanisms for survival in the relatively arid aerial environment. While the vascular plants or ＇tracheophytes＇ developed tissue specializations to transport and retain water, the other main lineages of land plants, the bryophytes, retained a simple, nonvascular morphology. The bryophytes--mosses, hornworts, and liverworts--continually undergo a co-equilibration of their water content with the surrounding environment and rely to a great extent on intrinsic cellular mechanisms to mitigate damage due to water stress. This short review will focus on the cellular and molecular responses to dehydr.tion and rehydr.tion in mosses, and offer insights into general plant responses to water stress.

Introduction:California’s recent dr.ught(2012–2016)has implications throughout the state for natural resource management and adaptation planning and has generated many discussions about dr.ught characterization and *** study characterizes dr.ught conditions with two indices describing deficits in natural water supply and increases in landscape stress developed on the basis of water balance modeling,at a fine spatial scale to assess the variation in conditions across the entire state,and provides an in-depth evaluation for the Russian River basin in northern California to addr.ss local resource management by developing extreme dr.ught scenarios for consideration in planning and ***:We employed the USGS Basin Characterization Model to characterize dr.ught on the basis of water supply(a measure of recharge plus runoff)and landscape stress(climatic water deficit).These were applied to the state and to the Russian River basin where antecedent soil moisture conditions were evaluated and extreme dr.ught scenarios were developed and run through a water management and reservoir operations model to further explore impacts on water ***:dr.ught indices indicated that as of the end of water year 2016 when reservoirs were full,additional water supply and landscape replenishment of up to three average years of precipitation in some locations was needed to return to normal *** soil conditions in the Russian River were determined to contribute to very different water supply results for different years and were necessary to understand to anticipate proper watershed response to *** dr.ught scenarios manifested very different kinds of dr.ught and recovery and characterization helps to guide the management response to ***:These scenarios and indices illustrate how dr.ughts differ with regard to water supply and landscape stress and how long warm dr.ughts recover much more slowly than short very dr. dr.

Dielectric, piezoelectric, and ferroelectric properties of lanthanum-modified PZTFN ceramics

Specimens of Pb1-1.5xLax（Zr0.53 Ti0.47）1-y-zFeyNb2O3 （x = 0, 0.004, 0.008, 0.012, and 0.016, y = z = 0.01）（PZTFN） ceramics were synthesized by a semi-wet route. In the present study, the effect of La doping was investigated on the structural, microstructural, dielectric, piezoelectric, and ferroelectric properties of the ceramics. The results show that, the tetragonal （space group P4mm） and rhombohedr.l （space group R3c） phases are observed to coexist in the sample at x = 0.012. Microstructural investigations of all the samples reveal that La doping inhibits grain growth. Doping of La into PZTFN improves the dielectric, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of the ceramics. The hys- teresis loops of all specimens exhibit nonlinear behavior. The dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties show a maximum response atx 〉 0.012, which corresponds to the morphotropic phase boundary （MPB）.

Impedance and ferroelectric properties of Sr^(2+) modified PZT-PMN ceramics

Sr^2＋ modified polycrystalline PZT-PMN ceramics were synthesized by a semi-wet route. Impedance spectroscopy studies indicate the bulk and grain boundary effects of PZT-PMN material along with the negative temperature coefficient of resistance. The bulk conductiv-ity exhibits an Arrhenius-type thermally activated hopping process which is supported by the AC conductivity behavior as a function of fre-quency and temperature. It is observed that the remnant polarization increases with an increase in the Sr2＋content in PZT-PMN.

1,2,3-Triazole incorporated coumarin derivatives as potential antifungal and antioxidant agents

A series of novel ethyl-7-（（1-（benzyl）-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl）methoxy）-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylates 8a-h as potential antifungal agents were synthesized via click chemistry. The antifungal activity was evaluated against five human pathogenic fungal strains, such as Candida albicans, Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger and Cryptococcus neoformans. Compound 8c, 8d, 8e and 8h were found to be equipotent against C. albicans when compared with miconazole and compound 8f was found to be two-fold more active compared with miconazole and equipotent to fluconazole against ***. The coumarin-based triazole derivatives were also evaluated for antioxidant activity and compound 8a was found to be potent antioxidant when compared with standard dr.g. Furthermore,molecular docking study of the newly synthesized compounds was performed and results showed good binding mode in the active site of fungal C. albicans enzyme P450 cytochrome lanosterol 14 ademethylase. Moreover, the synthesized compounds were also analyzed for ADME properties and showed potential to build up as good oral dr.g candidates.
