Surface N balances and reactive N loss to the environment from global intensive agricultural production systems for the period 1970-2030

Data for the historical years 1970 and 1995 and the FAo-Agriculture Towards 2030 projection are used to calculate N inputs (N fertilizer, animal manure, biological N fixation and atmospheric deposition) and the N export from the field in harvested crops and grass and grass consumption by grazing animals. In most industrialized countries we see a gradual increase of the overall N recovery of the intensive agricultural production systems over the whole 1970-2030 period. In contrast, low N input systems in many developing countries sustained low crop yields for many years but at the cost of soil fertility by depleting soil nutrient pools. In most developing countries the N recovery will increase in the coming decades by increasing efficiencies of N use in both crop and livestock production systems. The surface balance surplus of N is lost from the agricultural system via different pathways, including NH3 volatilization, denitrification, N2o and No emissions, and nitrate leaching from the root zone. Global NH3-N emissions from fertilizer and animal manure application and stored manure increased from 18 to 34 Tg·yr-1 between 1970 and 1995, and will further increase to 44 Tg·yr-1 in 2030. Similar developments are seen for N2o-N (2.0 Tg·yr-1 in 1970, 2.7 Tg·yr-1 in 1995 and 3.5 Tg·yr-1 in 2030) and No-N emissions (1.1 Tg·yr-1 in 1970, 1.5Tg·yr-1 in 1995 and 2.0 Tg·yr-1 in 2030).

In this paper Al2o3 and Mgo were studied as targets for the radiation grafting of MAA by electron beams. The reaction conditions and materials were characterized by IR spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction methods. It is concluded that grafting copolymerization of inorganic oxides and organic monomers has been confirmed. We focus our attention on using ESR spectrum to study the effects of ionizing radiation on inorganic oxides and the properties of initiating active centers. In addition, the radiation grafting mechanism of inorganic oxides and organic monomers has been primarily investigated.

Biomarkers of end of shift exposure to disinfection byproducts in nurses

Increased disinfectant use commonly takes place in hospitals and other health care settings. A cross-sectional study among active nurses in two Cypriot public hospitals（n = 179） was conducted to examine the prevalence of exposure to disinfection byproducts（DBPs）, such as trihalomethanes（THMs） using both self-reported information and biomarker *** objectives of this study were to： i） quantify the magnitude and variability of occupational exposure to disinfectants/DBPs in nurses, ii） generate job exposure matrices（JEM） and job task exposure matrices（JTEM） for disinfectants, and iii） assess the major determinants of urinary THMs in nurses. End of shift urinary total THM values showed high variability among the nurses, but did not differ between hospitals. The disinfectant group of alcohols/phenols was used by 〉 98% of nurses, followed by octenidine（82%）, iodine and chlorine（39%, each）,chlorhexidine（25%）, formaldehyde（12%）, hydrogen peroxide（11%）, and peracetic acid/ammonia/quaternary ammonium compounds（QACs）, all being 〈 8% each. Chlorine use during the past 24 hr was associated with significantly（p 〈 0.05） lower brominated THMs（Br THMs） after adjusting for age, gender and BMI, while a positive association was shown for TCM and the sum of all THMs（TTHMs）, albeit not significant. Nurses were exposed to nearly double the levels of TTHMs and BrT HMs（median and IQR, 1027 [560, 2475] ng/g and 323 [212,497] ng/g, respectively） when compared to those of the general population（552 [309,989] ng/g and 152 [87,261] ng/g, respectively）. This was the first occupational health dataset reporting measurements of biomarkers of end of shift exposures to disinfectants/DBPs.

The Mediating Effect of Body Dissatisfaction in Association between obesity and Dietary Behavior Changes for Weight Loss in Chinese Children

objective The aim of this study was to analyze the mediating effect of body dissatisfaction in correlation between obesity and dietary behavior changes for weight loss(DBCWL).Methods A total of 680 primary and middle school students were included in this study. Their body height, weight, and waistline were effectively measured, and they were also evaluated to assess their body dissatisfaction, perception of dietary behaviors, and DBCWL. The correlation among these factors was analyzed using mediating effect *** The prevalence of overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity was significantly higher in males than in females(P overweight/obesity, abdominal obesity, and body dissatisfaction significantly increased the risk for DBCWL(oR = 2.57, 2.77, and 1.95, respectively). overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity significantly increased the risk for body dissatisfaction(oR = 6.00 and 4.70,respectively). Significant mediating effects of body dissatisfaction were observed in correlation between overweight/obesity and DBCWL and between abdominal obesity and DBCWL(oR = 2.20 and 1.92,respectively;P oportions of mediating effects among the total effects were 48.89% and 46.60%, *** Body dissatisfaction might play an important mediating effect in association between DBCWL and obesity, which indicates that guiding children to correctly recognize their body might be more conducive than promoting obese children toward weight loss through dietary behavior changes.

Skeletal muscle plays a significant role in both local and systemic energy metabolism. The current investigation aims to explore the role of the Bambi gene in skeletal muscle, focusing on its implications for muscle hypertrophy and systemic metabolism. We hypothesize that skeletal muscle-specific deletion of Bambi induces muscle hypertrophy, improves metabolic performance, and activates thermogenic adipocytes via the reprogramming of progenitor of i WAT, offering potential therapeutic strategies for metabolic syndromes. Leveraging the Chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)-seq and bioinformatics analysis, Bambi gene is shown to be a direct target of HIF2α, which is further confirmed by ChIP-qPCR and promoter luciferase assay. Skeletal muscle-specific Bambi deletion led to significant muscle hypertrophy and improved metabolic parameters, even under high-fat diet conditions. This deletion induced metabolic reprogramming of stromal vascular fractions(SVFs) into thermogenic adipocytes, contributing to systemic metabolic improvements, potentially through the secretory ***, mice with skeletal muscle-specific Bambi deletion demonstrate resistance to high-fat diet-induced metabolic disorders, highlighting a potential therapeutic pathway for metabolic syndrome management. Thus, skeletal muscle-specific deletion of Bambi triggers muscle growth, enhances metabolic performance, and activates thermogenic adipocytes. These findings suggest Bambi as a novel therapeutic target for metabolic syndromes, providing new insights into the interaction between muscle hypertrophy and systemic metabolic improvement. The study underscores the potential of manipulating muscle physiology to regulate whole-body metabolism, offering a novel perspective on treating metabolic disorders.

Effectiveness of a home-environmental intervention package and an early child development intervention on child health and development in high-altitude rural communities in the Peruvian Andes: a cluster-randomised controlled trial

Estimating Changes in Contact Patterns in China over the First Year of the CoVID-19 Pandemic:Implications for SARS-CoV-2 Spread—Four Cities,China,2020

Introduction:Previous studies have demonstrated significant changes in social contacts during the firstwave coronavirus disease 2019(CoVID-19)in Chinese *** purpose of this study was to quantify the time-varying contact patterns by age in Chinese mainland in 2020 and evaluate their impact on the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Methods:Diary-based contact surveys were performed for four periods:baseline(prior to 2020),outbreak(February 2020),post-lockdown(March–May 2020),and post-epidemic(September–November 2020).We built a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered(SIR)model to evaluate the effect of reducing contacts on ***:During the post-epidemic period,daily contacts resumed to 26.7%,14.8%,46.8%,and 44.2%of the pre-CoVID levels in Wuhan,Shanghai,Shenzhen,and Changsha,*** suggests a moderate risk of resurgence in Changsha,Shenzhen,and Wuhan,and a low risk in *** closure alone was not enough to interrupt transmission of SARS-CoV-2 omicron BA.5,but with the addition of a 75%reduction of contacts at the workplace,it could lead to a 16.8%reduction of the attack *** control an outbreak,concerted strategies that target schools,workplaces,and community contacts are ***:Monitoring contact patterns by age is key to quantifying the risk of CoVID-19 outbreaks and evaluating the impact of intervention strategies.

High prevalence of urinary schistosomiasis in a desert population: results from an exploratory study around the ounianga lakes in Chad
