Dietary supplementation of laminarin improves the reproductive performance of sows and the growth of suckling piglets

Background Maternal nutrition is essential in keeping a highly efficient production system in the pig *** has been shown to improve antioxidant capacity,reduce the inflammatory response,and favor the homeostasis of intestinal ***,the effect of dietary supplementation of laminarin on the reproductive performance of sows and the growth of suckling offspring remains *** A total of 40 Landrace×Yorkshire multiparous sows on d 85 of gestation,similar in age,body weight(BW),parity and reproductive performance,were randomly divided into four dietary treatments with 10 sows per treatment,receiving a control diet(basal pregnancy or lactating diets)and a basal diet supplemented with 0.025%,0.05%and 0.10%laminarin,*** experiment lasted from d 85 of gestation to d 21 of *** Laminarin supplementation linearly increased number born alive per litter(P=0.03),average daily feed intake(ADFI,P<0.01),and total milk yield of sows during the lactation of 1–21 d(P=0.02).Furthermore,maternal laminarin supplementation increased the average daily gain(ADG)of piglets while tending to reduce the culling and death rate before *** addition,alterations to the composition of colostrum and milk,as well as to serum inflammatory cytokines and immunoglobulins of sows were *** fecal microbiota profile of sows supported the improvement of reproductive performance in sows and the growth performance in suckling *** Dietary supplementation of laminarin during late pregnancy and lactation could significantly improve reproductive performance of sows and growth performance of piglets.

Title: Integrating Consistent Individualized Carbohydrate-Controlled Anti- Inflammatory nutritional Plan (C-ICAN) in the Management of Prader-Willi Syndrome: A Case Report. Prader–Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by a loss of function of specific genes on chromosome 15. Patients with this disease present unique challenges in management, particularly regarding obesity and nutritional regulation as the disease symptoms change depending on the age of the patient and the phase of the disease. These challenges pose critical stressors to caregivers and their families. We present a case report of a 5-year-old Caucasian male diagnosed with PWS, exhibiting failure to thrive and uncontrolled weight gain. His caregiver was his elderly grandmother who, by her own admission, was ill-equipped to deal with the patient’s physical symptoms and his behavior in response to dietary restrictions. Through a multidisciplinary approach involving medical nutrition therapy (MNT) involving the implementation of a Consistent Individualized Carbohydrate-Controlled Anti-Inflammatory nutritional plan (C-ICAN), growth hormone supplementation, and behavioral interventions patient markedly improved physically and emotionally.

BACKGROUND Childhood bronchial asthma(BA)is a chronic inflammatory respiratory *** conditions,including zinc deficiency,can affect such allergic *** To outline the difference in serum zinc levels between asthmatic children and healthy *** A cross-sectional study was carried out at Children’s Hospital,Cairo University,investigating serum zinc levels in children with BA(n=40)and healthy children(n=21).Other markers included serum ferritin,iron,hemoglobin(Hb),and immunoglobulin E(IgE)*** t-tests and Mann-Whinny tests were used for *** Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to compare serum ferritin and IgE levels with regard to asthma ***'s rank correlation was performed to explore the relationship between serum ferritin levels and both iron and Hb levels in asthmatic *** Children with BA had higher levels of zinc,yet the difference was not significant(P=0.115).Serum ferritin and IgE levels were significantly higher in asthmatic children(P=0.006 and 0.001,respectively),yet their levels did not differ significantly by severity(P=0.623 and 0.126,respectively).There was a nonsignificant weak correlation between serum ferritin levels and both serum iron and Hb *** Serum zinc levels do not seem to differ between asthmatic children and healthy *** ferritin levels may be a marker of asthma *** IgE levels are not markers of asthma severity.

Investigation of the effect of hydrocarbons and monoesters in the gelators’composition on the properties of edible oleogel

Natural wax gelators have different compositions of compounds(hydrocarbons,wax esters,free fatty alcohols,and free fatty acids),which results in oleogels with varying *** maintain a consistent composition,the individual components can be added to the original wax *** content of hydrocarbons and wax esters greatly affects the structuring process of liquid edible oils with *** aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of modifying the properties of beeswax as a gelling agent by adding hydrocarbons or monoesters to obtain oleogels with specific *** tests were conducted to assess the changes in the oleogel properties,such as color,microstructure,oil-binding capacity,thermal and textural *** research results have shown that the addition of the studied fractions has led to a significant change in all properties of *** initial size of oleogel crystals(7.29±1.80μm)changed after adding fractions,varying from 5.28μm to 12.58μm with hydrocarbons and from 9.95μm to 30.41μm with wax *** addition of 30%–50% hydrocarbons decreased the ability of the oleogels to bind oil and made them less firm compared to samples with 10%-20% *** 10%-20% monoesters increased the firmness of the oleogels,but this indicator decreased when their content was increased to 50%.The obtained data indicate that hydrocarbons and wax esters can be used for targeted correction of the gelling properties of beeswax.

Prospects of sea buckthorn(Hippophae rhamnoides L.) polysaccharides: preparation， structural characterization， and bioactivities diversity

Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) is a natural homologous substance of medicine and food. Polysaccharide， as one of its primary active components， has very superior biological activity and can be used as a dietary supplement for functional foods， with good commercial prospects. Although initial progress has been made in the study of sea buckthorn polysaccharides， related studies have been fragmented and lacked systematic and generalization. This manuscript presents a critical analysis and systematic summary of the extraction and purification methods， structural characterization and physicochemical properties， biological activity and potential mechanisms， and structure-activity relationships of sea buckthorn polysaccharides. Accumulating evidence has indicated that sea buckthorn polysaccharides， which were widely prepared by water extraction and column chromatography purifications， exhibited exhibit superior biological activities in vitro and in vivo， including antioxidant， immunomodulatory， anti-inflammatory， hepatorenal protective， antibacterial， antiviral， and prebiotic activities. After analysis， it was concluded that there is a correlation between the relevant activities of sea buckthorn polysaccharides and that the structure of sea buckthorn polysaccharides has a great influence on their biological activity. We reviewed the challenges and limitations of sea buckthorn polysaccharides， summarized the critical aspects， and provided suggestions for potential breakthroughs in the research and application of sea buckthorn polysaccharide.

A texture-modified dessert with high nutritional value designed for people with dysphagia:effect of refrigeration and frozen storage
