Milling degree affects the fermentation properties of rice:perspectives from the composition of nutrients and gut microbiota via in vitro fermentation

Fermentation substrates of rice with different milling degrees(MDs) were prepared and fermented with human feces to compare their fermentation properties and effects on gut microbiota.MD 0s,MD 5s and MD 60s represented brown rice,moderately-milled rice and white rice,respectively.After in vitro fermentation,the MD 5s group showed higher starch utilization,compared with the MD 0s and 60s groups evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer,and confocal laser scanning microscope.Effects of fermentation substrates of rice with different MDs on gut microbiota were evaluated by 16S rDNA sequencing.All the sample groups reduced the pH and produced short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs) and branched-chain fatty acids.The MD 5s group exhibited higher α-diversity than the MD 0s and 60s groups.Abundances of Phascolarctobacterium,Blautia and norank_f_Ruminococcaceae were higher in the MD 0s and 5s groups,compared with the MD 60s group.These bacteria were also positively correlated with the SCFAs production via Spearman correlation analysis.In vitro culture assay revealed that fermentation substrates of MD 0s and 5s promoted the growth of two probiotics(Akkermansia muciniphila and Bifidobacterium adolescentis).Our results showed that moderate milling might be an appropriate way to produce rice products with richer nutrients and better fermentation properties.

Higher intakes of lysine,threonine and valine are inversely associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease risk:a community-based case-control study in the Chinese elderly

The associations of individual amino acid with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)risk remained unclear.The present study aimed to investigate the associations between the two in the Chinese elderly.Methods:A community-based health check-up program was conducted in Qingdao,China.NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasonography accompanied by epidemiological investigation.The dietary intakes of amino acids were investigated with 3-day,24-h dietary records and calculated by nutrition Calculator software.Restricted cubic spline model was used to evaluate a nonlinear relationship between amino acid intake and NAFLD risk.Results:400 NAFLD subjects were identified,and 400 participants were randomly selected as controls and matched by gender and age(±3 years)Dose-response analysis showed that 1000 mg increment of aromatic amino acids(AAAs)was associated with reduced 16%risk of NAFLD.Dietary increments of 750 mg/d threonine,950 mg/d valine,or 1700 mg/d lysine were associated with a 20%reduction in the NAFLD risk(all P for linearityconclusion:The present study demonstrated that the dietary increases in milk,eggs and deep-sea fish,which are rich in the amino acids,might contribute to protecting against NAFLD in the elderly.

Multi-source heterogeneous data access management framework and key technologies for electric power Internet of Things

The power Internet of Things(IoT)is a significant trend in technology and a requirement for national strategic development.With the deepening digital transformation of the power grid,China’s power system has initially built a power IoT architecture comprising a perception,network,and platform application layer.However,owing to the structural complexity of the power system,the construction of the power IoT continues to face problems such as complex access management of massive heterogeneous equipment,diverse IoT protocol access methods,high concurrency of network communications,and weak data security protection.To address these issues,this study optimizes the existing architecture of the power IoT and designs an integrated management framework for the access of multi-source heterogeneous data in the power IoT,comprising cloud,pipe,edge,and terminal parts.It further reviews and analyzes the key technologies involved in the power IoT,such as the unified management of the physical model,high concurrent access,multi-protocol access,multi-source heterogeneous data storage management,and data security control,to provide a more flexible,efficient,secure,and easy-to-use solution for multi-source heterogeneous data access in the power IoT.

High-efficiency co_(2) sequestration through direct aqueous carbonation of carbide slag: determination of carbonation reaction and optimization of operation parameters

Under the dual-carbon target, co_(2) mineralization through solid wastes presents a mutually beneficial approach for permanent carbon emission reduction at a low material cost, while also enabling the resource utilization of these wastes. However, despite its potential, a comprehensive understanding about the effect of industrial solid waste properties and operating parameters on the carbonation process, and the mechanism of direct aqueous carbonation is still lacking. A series of experiments were conducted to compare the carbonation performance of fly ash, steel slag, and carbide slag. Subsequently, co_(2) mineralization by carbide slag was systematically studied under various operating parameters due to its high co_(2) sequestration capacity. Results showed the reactivity of CaO and Ca(OH)2 was higher than that of CaO·SiO_(2) and 2CaO·SiO_(2). Carbide slag demonstrated a sequestration capacity of 610.8 g co_(2)/kg and carbonation efficiency ζCa of 62.04% under the conditions of 65 ℃, 1.5 MPa initial co_(2) pressure, 15 mL/g liquid-to-solid ratio, and 200 r/min stirring speed. Moreover, the formation of carbonates was confirmed through XRD, SEM-EDS, TG, and FTIR. A mechanism analysis revealed that initially, the rate of the carbonation process was primarily controlled by the mass transfer of co_(2) in the gas–liquid interface. However, the rate-determining step gradually shifted to the mass transfer of Ca2+ in the solid–liquid interface as the reaction time increased. This study lays the foundation for the large-scale implementation of co_(2) sequestration through carbide slag carbonation.

Online soft measurement for wastewater treatment system based on hybrid deep learning

The existing automated wastewater treatment control systems encounter challenges such as the utilization of specialized testing instruments, equipment repair complications, high operational costs, substantial operational errors, and low detection accuracy. An effective soft measure model offers a viable approach for real-time monitoring and the development of automated control in the wastewater treatment process. consequently, a novel hybrid deep learning CNN-BNLSTM-Attention (CBNLSMA) model, which incorporates convolutional neural networks (CNN), bidirectional nested long and short-term memory neural networks (BNLSTM), attention mechanisms (AM), and Tree-structure Parzen Estimators (TPE), has been developed for monitoring effluent water quality during the wastewater treatment process. The CBNLSMA model is divided into four stages: the CNN module for feature extraction and data filtering to expedite operations;the BNLSTM module for temporal data’s temporal information extraction;the AM module for model weight reassignment;and the TPE optimization algorithm for the CBNLSMA model’s hyperparameter search optimization. In comparison with other models (TPE-CNN-BNLSTM, TPE-BNLSTM-AM, TPE-CNN-AM, PSO-CBNLSTMA), the CBNLSMA model reduced the RMSE for effluent coD prediction by 25.4%, decreased the MAPE by 32.9%, and enhanced the R2 by 14.9%. For the effluent SS prediction, the CBNLSMA model reduced the RMSE by 26.4%, the MAPE by 21.0%, and improved the R2 by 35.7% compared to other models. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed CBNLSMA model holds significant potential for real-time effluent quality monitoring, indicating its high potential for automated control in wastewater treatment processes.

The noise spectral characteristics and noise reduction schemes of screw air-source heat pump:A case study

The screw air-source heat pump can cause incessant high noise levels during operation,which might hinder adoption of this energy-efficient heat pump.First,acoustic measurements and comparison testing were performed in this research.The measurements revealed that the compressor is the main noise source of the heat pump,and it shows a multipeak frequency distribution and a wide frequency spectrum under different work conditions,with multiple peaks at 63,250,and 1000 Hz.Then,a compressor sound insulation cover with broadband absorption was proposed,and it was experimentally proven that the insulation cover can reduce the maximum sound pressure level of one unit from 89.8 dBA to 79.1 dBA.Third,we proposed several noise reduction strategies and compared their noise reduction effects using computer simulation.The results showed that the noise problem can be effectively improved through the rational design of the sound barrier and the layout and opening options of heat pump.The distance between the sound barrier and heat pump and the sound attenuation due to diffraction ALa exhibit a U-shaped relation.For buildings of different heights,the optimal heights of noise barrier are proposed.The 5.5-meter is the optimal height of the sound barrier for single-story buildings.The conclusions can be applied to other building projects for heat pump noise reduction.

Molecular Mechanism and Molecular Design of Lubricating Oil Antioxidants

To overcome the limitations of traditional experimental“trial and error”methods in lubricant additive design,a new molecular design method based on molecular structure parameters is established here.The molecular mechanism of the antioxidant reaction of hindered phenol,diphenylamine,and alkyl sulfide are studied via molecular simulations.Calculation results show that the strong electron-donating ability and high hydrogen-donating activity of the antioxidant molecule and the low hydrogen-abstracting activity of free radicals formed after dehydrogenation are the internal molecular causes of the shielding of phenol and diphenylamine from scavenging peroxy free radicals,and the strong electron-donating ability is the internal molecular cause of the high activity of thioether in decomposing alkyl hydrogen peroxide.Based on this antioxidant molecular mechanism,a molecular design rule of antioxidant is proposed,namely“high EHOMO,large Q(S),low bond dissociation energy BDE(O—H)and BDE(N—H)”.Two new antioxidants,PAS-I and PAS-II,are designed and prepared by chemical bonding of hindered phenol,diphenylamine,and sulfur atoms.Experimental results show that these antioxidants both have excellent antioxidant effects in lubricating oil,and that PAS-II is the superior antioxidant,consistent with theoretical predictions.

The protective effect of Limosilactobacillus reuteri against gestational diabetes mellitus through restoring intestinal microbiota homeostasis and attenuating inflammation in mice

Limosilactobacillus reuteri QS01 is potential probiotic isolated from the intestinal microbiota of healthy women in early pregnancy. In the current study， we examined whether QS01 can prevent gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in an enhanced mouse model of the condition. Female C57BL/6J mouse offspring (F1 generation) born to dams fed a control (coN) or low-protein diet (GDM group) during gestation and lactation were used. Pregnant F1 mice fed a standard diet were randomly assigned to 5 groups: coN， GDM， and GDM mice treated with metformin， QS01 or Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus HN001. An oral glucose tolerance test was performed before sacrifice at gestational day 17. Glucose tolerance was significantly ameliorated by all three treatments. QS01 supplementation fortified the intestinal mucosal barrier and inhibited the escalation of plasma inflammatory cytokines. QS01 treatment altered the cecal microbiota composition and function. Plasma and cecal metabolite profiles were modulated by QS01， prominently demonstrating significant upregulation of indole lactate and L-tryptophan in plasma and 5-hydroxy-tryptophan in the cecum， positively correlated with gut Lactobacillus abundance. In summary， QS01 plays a role in preventing GDM by remodeling the intestinal microbiota， reinforcing the intestinal mucosal barrier and alleviating chronic inflammation.

What is already known about this topic?Vitamin A deficiency(VAD)is a leading global nutritional concern,ranking among the top four major nutritional deficiencies worldwide.The prevalence of VAD is unevenly distributed across various regions,both within China and globally.What is added by this report?The report adds valuable insights into the vitamin A nutritional status of rural students aged 6–17 years who participated in the nutrition Improvement Programme for Rural compulsory Education Students(NIPRCES).Over the decade from 2012 to 2021,there was a modest improvement in vitamin A status.The prevalence of VAD and sub-clinical VAD(SVAD)declined as the students aged.Throughout the majority of the survey years,the incidence of VAD was higher among males and western regions compared to females and central regions,respectively.What are the implications for public health practice?A comprehensive approach,incorporating dietary diversification,nutrition education,and food fortification,should be implemented to prevent VAD and SVAD especially in males,younger children and children in western areas.

Experimental study on ice monitoring method for 10 kV transmission line with tangent tower in alpine landform

Ice monitoring methods were applied for 110 kV and above transmission lines with tangent towers.However,the change in the vertical span is not considered,and a significant difference lies in the tower-conductor structure of 10 kV transmission lines.For this reason,a proposal is made about the ice monitoring method for the 10 kV transmission line with tangent tower in alpine landform,which includes the ice monitoring system based on pressure measurement and corresponding equivalent ice thickness calculating methods.Different methods calculate the vertical span under different height difference coefficients.A finite element simulation model and a simulated ice load experiment system are established based on real conductors and insulators.Experiments and simulations under four simulated terrains are conducted within 2.5–20 mm ice thickness range.The comparison is made between this method and the method without considering the change in vertical span.The results show that the two methods are consistent and the relative errors are lower than�4%in simulation and�10%in experiment when the height difference coefficient is 0.When it is not 0,the relative errors of this method fall between t0.38%and t6.78%in simulation and−6.40%to t6.60%in experiment,while the relative errors of the method without considering the change in vertical span ranges between−11.13%and−20.23%in simulation and−11.65%to−23.20%in experiment.
