A bibliometric analysis and visualization of research on heart failure complicated with malnutrition

Objective:This study aimed to have a good knowledge of heart failure complicated with malnutrition research status,hotspots,and forecast research trends using bibliometric analysis and visualization of studies of hear t failure complicated with malnutrition in the past 10 years.Methods:Ar ticles related to malnutrition-induced hear t failure were obtained from the Web of Science core Collection(Wo SCC)series from January 2012 to January 2022.Two software(Java Cite Space 5.8R3 and Microsoft Excel 2019)were used to perform bibliometric and knowledge-map analysis,including analyzing the annual publication and trend of ar ticles,authors and co-cited authors,institutions/countries,co-cited journals,co-occurrence,clusters,and burst of keywords,co-cited references,and reference burst.Results:A total of 672 articles appeared in 180 scientific journals by 4249 authors from 1453 institutions in 71 countries.Over the past 10 years,the number of related studies released has shown an upward trend,and the range of increases has been larger over the past 5 years.Takatoshi Kasai released the most papers,while Anker S D had the most co-quotes.Simultaneously,active cooperation existed in complicated hear t failure with researchers on malnutrition.Circulation,Journal of The American College of Cardiology,and Clinical Nutrition were the top 3 co-cited journals.The USA,Japan,and China were the most productive countries,while Johns Hopkins University was the most active institution.In addition,the reference published by Ponikowski P had the most co-citations,relating to as a knowledge base.The latest hotspots of hear t failure complicated with malnutrition mainly included research on:(1)assessment of nutrition status,the impact/risk factor of nutrition,and the prevalence and outcome of the patients;(2)hear t failure complicated with malnutrition when complicated with other diseases,for example,chronic kidney disease and diabetes mellitus;(3)the nutrition of child patients with heart failure complicated with malnutrition;and(4)the trea

Investigation of the teaching cognition and capabilities of clinical advisers for masters degree level nursing specialty graduate students

Purpose:To assess the culturing cognition and teaching of core capabilities of clinical advisers for masters degree level nursing graduate students in order to provide criteria for selecting and training clinical advisers,and to monitor clinical teaching quality.Methods:A questionnaire was completed by 66 nursing specialty clinical advisers.The questionnaire was divided into three sections:basic condition,culturing cognition of the nursing specialty graduate students,and self-evaluation of teaching core capabilities as measured by the Clinical nursing Teachers core Capabilities Graphic Rating Scale.Results:Forty-five of the surveyed advisers served undergraduate level students(68.18%),and seven of them(10.61%)had experience advising graduate nursing students.The advisers,in general,had limited knowledge regarding guidance for nursing specialty graduate students.The self evaluation total score for core capabilities teaching was(120.557.37),containing professional capability(4.47±0.34),leadership capability(4.01±0.22),problem solving capability(3.89±0.30),and education teaching capability(3.65±0.23).The highest scored item was the capability to assess and handle a patients’condition(4.44±0.56),while the lowest scored item was the capability to do scientific research(3.29±0.89).Conclusion:Clinical advisers for nursing specialty graduate students in our survey were generally inexperienced with regarding to training and culturing nursing graduate students.These advisers were prepared for core teaching competency,but were not qualified to conduct scientific research.Based on these results,it would be beneficial to provide the clinical advisers more training on teaching cognition for graduate students and improve their competency to perform scientific research.

Application of nursing core competency standard education in the training of nursing undergraduates

Purpose:To evaluate the effectiveness of nursing core competency standard education in undergraduate nursing training.Methods:Forty-two nursing undergraduates from the class of 2007 were recruited as the control group receiving conventional teaching methods,while 31 students from the class of 2008 were recruited as the experimental group receiving nursing core competency standard education.Teaching outcomes were evaluated using comprehensive theoretical knowledge examination and objective structured clinical examination.Results:The performance in the health information collection,physical assessment,scenario simulation and communication in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group(pnursing core competency standard education is helpful for the training of nursing students'core competencies.

Decision-Making Process for the Place of Death of Elderly Patients with Advanced Cancer and Their Families

Purpose: This study aims to understand how elderly patients with advanced cancer and their families make a decision for a place of death for the patient. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 pairs of elderly patients and members of their family. The patients had finished anticancer treatment and made some decision about the preferred place of death. A modified grounded-theory approach was used for the data analysis. Results: Making a “tentative” decision for the place of death of the elderly patients is a process with the core category [carefully choosing the final place for self-fulfillment]. The patients were “conducting a comprehensive review of the place of death” and “embracing the wishes for a way of life without difficulty”. Involving the family in making a “tentative” decision about the place of death of the elderly patients is the process with the core category [realizing the wish of patients in the terminal condition for the way for death]. The families were “examining the place of death from different aspects” and “respecting the patient’s intention as far as possible”. Conclusions: When the patients [carefully choosing the final place for self-fulfillment], it was important to reconcile their wishes with the burden on the families. When the families were trying to [realize the wish of patients in the terminal condition for the way for dying], it was important to balance the respect for the patient intentions and homecare they can provide for the patient. For the patients and their families, it is essential to mutually understand the intentions and wishes of the other party in decision making about the place of death.

Aim:This study aims to describe health-related quality of life(HRQL),identify factors associated with HRQL physical and mental health domains,and explore the association between perceived social supports and HRQL among cancer palliative patients in Saudi Arabia.Methods:A cross-sectional study is applied.The validated European Organization for Cancer Research and Treatment,the EORTC QLQ-15 palliative care scale and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support(MSPSS)have been used.A convenience sample of(N=301)palliative cancer patients was collected from two main regional cancer centers in Riyadh.Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis.Results:Results indicate that overall quality of life showed a significant positive correlation with perceived family and friend support,sub-factors of perceived social support.Regression analysis showed that the overall model experienced 69.0%of the variance for global health statutes with F(4,7)=7.149 P<0.001.Physical functioning,emotional functioning,and family support were found to be significant predictors of global health status.Family and Friend support were found to be significant positive predictors of emotional functioning.Conclusions:The inpatient and outpatient treatment can vary at different stages and in different areas,family and friend support has been highlighted as necessary in this context.Physical and emotional factors have been demonstrated in older age(geriatric)patients as they may have debilitating diseases that can limit their functioning hence support the case for more palliative care.

“No Need to Get Salty” Or Is There? Sodium Functionality as a Consideration in Nutrition Public Health Policy

Aim: Public health professionals focus on both downstream (individual) and upstream (population-level) interventions to reduce sodium consumption and prevent sodium-related chronic diseases. Effective upstream interventions specifically aimed at reducing dietary sodium intake include the implementation of comprehensive nutrition standards that restrict the amount of sodium contained in foods available for purchase. The aim of this work was to identify sought-after foods that did not meet the Philadelphia Nutrition Standards’ sodium limits and reformulate those foods to be standards-compliant and consumer-acceptable. Subject and Methods: Two foods were reformulated for compliancy with the Philadelphia Nutrition Standards’ sodium limits and consumer acceptability: the hoagie roll and soft pretzel. Reformulation included sensory testing and engaging potential manufacturing partners to investigate products’ commercial potential. Results: While hoagie roll reformulation led to a local company manufacturing and selling the reformulated product, soft pretzel reformulation stalled due to lack of consumer acceptability of the reformulated product. Salt contributes desirable characteristics in the texture, taste, and appearance of the soft pretzel, the absence of which consumers found unacceptable. Conclusion: Product reformulation holds great potential to create lower-sodium foods that otherwise have all of the characteristics of the higher-sodium “original” products but requires an understanding of the role of salt in product recipes. Reducing salt without considering its multiple functions in food may result in a product that is unacceptable or even unsafe. A simple four-step tool can help public health practitioners evaluate the extent to which products are suitable for reformulation.

core competence evaluation standards for emergency nurse specialist: Developing and testing psychometric properties

Introduction:Nurse specialists are being cultivated and trained in China to cope with the international development of nursing discipline.However,an empirical summary and reviews of literature have shown a lack of core competence evaluation standards for emergency nurse specialists(ENSs)in China.ENS training has been conducted in several regions without any effective competence evaluation standards.This paper describes the development and psychometric testing of the core Competence Evaluation Standards for Emergency Nurse Specialists(CCESENS)in the Chinese context.Methods:Several rigorous research methods were applied.The proposed evaluation process consisted of two phases with seven steps.First,the core Competence Framework Model for Emergency Nurse Specialist(CCFMENS)was established,and 118 items were generated through a review of literature,theoretical analysis,and expert interviews.Drafts of the dimensions and items were evaluated by two-round Delphi methods.Analysis hierarchy process was used to determine the weight of each dimension.Second,field testing was performed among 138 senior emergency nurses.Internal consistency and correlation analysis were applied to test the reliability and validity of the model.Results:The CCESENS consisted of five first-level dimensions,16 second-level dimensions,and 55 items.Cronbach's a coefficient of overall standards was 0.972,and each dimension ranged from 0.508 to 0.972.Expert content validity index was 0.818,and the correlation coefficients of the five first-level dimensions with the overall standards CCESENS ranged from 0.701 to 0.886(Pcore competence of ENS.

The Process of Support by nursing Professionals for Families Having a Member with Borderline Personality Disorder

The purpose of this study was to explore the process of family support provided by nurses to families with a borderline personality disorder (BPD) patient. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 nurses who had provided care to BPD patients. Data obtained from the interviews were qualitatively analyzed using a modified grounded theory approach. As an overall core category of family support processes practiced by nurses for families with BPD patients, family support practiced without awareness that the nurses were supporting families was extracted. Through this process, nurses held perceptions that were premises for family support, which were formed through their individual nursing experiences and perspectives. Nurses also had diverse perceptions concerning the image of families. Through the integration of perceptions that were premises for family support and perceptions of an image of the family, nurses underwent a process of “determination and ambivalence about the need for family support.” Then, nurses provided “family support practice” when they acknowledged the need for family support. During the “family support practice,” nurses had difficulties in providing family support. When family support was not successfully provided, nurses provided “family support practice with seeking more effective ways through trial and error.” For cases in which nurses did not acknowledge the need for intervention, they intentionally chose “not to provide family support.” Furthermore, during the “family support practice,” nurses had contradictory perspectives of family support. Such family support processes ultimately led to an awareness of the same family support required for the future. Family support was provided with “family support practice” and “family support practice with seeking more effective ways through trial and error.” In some cases, however, the process ended in “not to provide family support intentionally.” Experiences and perspectives in providing family support are important factors in carrying out fut
